Agreed, and even some of the easier charts can be more fun than the hardest simfile. (cough, Valkyrie Dimension)

I'd focus on making a good chart instead of a difficult one. But that is hypocritical of me since FEDR was intentionally made to be hard.

Can I get feedback on Nu Beat because apparently it wasn't literally anyone's cup of tea

Is it just me, or have things gotten a little crazy out there? In these uncertain times, of course we should be looking forward, but I also think we can reflect on when things were a bit simpler...


Remember the Battle Royale? Yeah, that was pretty fun. I say let's just pretend like it's still happening to ride out that nostalgia for the rest of the week.

-Song choice is limited to entries from the previous tournament. Here is a link to that folder. It's also on the side bar on my profile if you need it.
-The only asset you can use from the previous file is the audio. Everything else needs to come from you.
-30 of the 32 people from that tournament are in this one as well. As much as I enjoy a good redemption arc, you cannot make a new version of your own file.
-Since inevitably there will be duplicates, please put your name in brackets in the simfile itself as well as when you upload (the simfile artist credit in the .ssc is recommended as well). If there's no way to tell who made the file in game, it will be disqualified.

Good theme!

I'm not "upset" about anything. It was just a pisstake. Tone is hard on the internet, it's my bad.

I think that you've got to have experience being able to clear difficult charts to be able to make ones that are good, tbh.

Most people underrate the actual real life pad difficulty of their charts because they don't understand that jumps are actually taxing on stamina, they don't realize that turns and crossovers are more difficult than simple patterns, etc. I predict we'll see a lot of difficult charts this week that are underscored because people aren't like... attempting the charts they make and are just playing them on keyboard and the two ways to hit jumps ("bracket" style one foot methods or jumps) are both more difficult than hitting a single note.

Like, think about your oldest charts. You'd try to make a chart harder than you could actually clear, then you got better at DDR and went back and looked at them and went "Oh... this was badly made and is actually significantly more difficult than I thought it was." That's because you didn't really know because you didn't play at that level. I've got charts I rated 7s (old scale) that are actually super difficult 8s or 9s because I just wasn't playing much DDR at the time.

Compound that with the fact that most players can't like... clear 17s and that lack of perspective becomes an echo chamber and a bunch of charts that are made to be played on keyboard (where they were built and tested) are given positive feedback.

Again, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with these kinds of charts or with keyboard play, I just don't think you can really "get it" until you're playing at that level which I'd imagine few of us really are.

With that said: there were a lot of good files in my group last week and I gave out a lot of points to a lot of different files. One of the ones I didn't but almost did was "Toki," which is very difficult and I really liked most of of it but the freezes are a nightmare on pad because I don't think the player really tested it on pad. I love the spirit of what the creator wanted to make ("So Deep" style steps are really underrepped and I love those kinds of files) and loved a lot of it, but you could just tell that it wasn't tested. Idk

I participated in Battle Royale 2020, however I've scrubbed my files from that category and added them to my main category to avoid duplicates as well as update them in various ways. Here are the songs I stepped:

So, on the off chance that anyone wants to step one of those songs, I don't give anyone permission to use any assets from my files. Come to me and ask permission first.
