DanceDanceRevolution A (AC)

I'm assuming solely to prevent lineouts from getting clean audio, and making OST sales worthless. In fact, iirc the one game that turns off announcers for Encore Stage is DDR X, and that was also the one game where obtaining clean audio for the Encore Stages was trivial (PS2 release has all the new songs, and older OSTs have all the X-Specials).

I still have the PS2 version of X. Yes, you can turn off announcers for the boss songs, and maybe the others too, but I got to check. The arcade version has the X-SPECIAL songs, but the PS2 version contains a mix of certain X and Supernova 2 songs like Poseidon, Uranus, Pluto, and Pluto Relinquish to name a few. ("You're going combo wombo!!" over the machine gun ending of Pluto Relinquish, talk about mixing bad with worse!)

DanceDanceRevolution: Fun, I'm mildly indifferent to the song.
CHAOS: GARBAGE ASS CHART to an OK song
TRIP MACHINE PheoniX: ESP is fun, CSP is rather shit, great song
PARANOiA ~HADES~: Garbage to a great song
Pluto: Superior in every way to Chaos, still a garbage chart
Pluto Relinquish: Heavy is boring, CSP is garbage
Horatio: Fuck CSP and this is one of the worst Or-If-Is songs.

roppongi EVOLVED: I like almost every EVOLVED song musically and hate every EVOLVED chart ethically
Valkyrie dimension: ESP would be a good chart if they fixed the most garbage parts (like the Afronova walk, CSP is garbage and the 480bpm stream isn't even the worst part (although candles = wtf?!), GREAT song
UNBELIEVABLE (Sparky Remix): no.
NEPHILIM DELTA: decent song with the most disappointing chart ever
SILVER☆DREAM: Like one of the worst songs in DDR.
Tohoku EVOLVED: see above, this one's BPM changes are especially awful

MAX. (Period): Heavy was a great chart although the 180BPM part sucks on all difficulty, the original CSP was bad the new one is even worse
Over The "Period": One of my favorite 18s, and sadly middle of the road for CSP 19s which is... horrendous because this chart is fucking horrendous.
Ace For Aces: I really like this song, if there's no Challenge I'm gonna be hella disappointed.

May I ask exactly what this "bait" is? I myself have wanted to put my own input on the different EES songs, but I've only really heard ⅔ of them and played less than ¼.

For one thing, you seem to think Candy's chart is good. This means you have literally no room to talk about bad or good stepcharts and should go home.

That seems like a pretty big jump... Can we please not instigate another fight on this forum? I personally think Candy's chart is decent, but not memorable.

Wonder if they'll add more western licenses like they promised back in July. Maybe like in December they'll add "preview" songs (like a event like OSB in DDR 2014), and maybe we'll get a new batch of songs that are technically part of the next mix.

I think it's a pretty decent chart especially when you take the time to actually do the ridiculous amount of spins in it. No need to be so aggressive about it to someone else just because they like it.

Sort of on topic question though, was it ever explicitly said they'd be adding new "Western" licenses to the game at any point? I was always under the impression it was the one set we got and maybe a few more if it picked up in europe but that was it?

I'm just concerned, hoping that Konmai doesn't go nuclear and end this with the rest of Bemani.

DanceDanceRevolution: Indifferent, even if is an allegory of DDR.
CHAOS: Unpredictable unless is played many times.
TRIP MACHINE PhoeniX: My favorite TM of all times.
PARANOiA ~HADES~: Not my favorite Paranoia, but spooky.
Pluto: I like the song, but not the chart and neither the stops.
Pluto Relinquish: Never liked CSP.
Horatio: Different to the usual Boss Songs, me like.

Trigger: Final part always gets the best of me.
roppongi EVOLVED: Can't decide what is my favorite, A, or D?

Ace For Aces: After the grandiose Endymion, I think this is a good extra song.

Say what y'all want about any other EES, but the PARANOiA ~HADES~ death run is art.

CSP would be a perfectly fine death run if not for those 3 idiotic jumps

CANDY☆: Overplayed
KAKUMEI: Gallops are annoying.
DanceDanceRevolution: I like the song a lot, but charts are what they are. I like the mashup Challenge offered.
CHAOS: After getting used to the stops, wouldn't have it any other way.
TRIP MACHINE PhoeniX: Screw ESP. Those 16th crossovers aren't happening.
PARANOiA ~HADES~: Too step-jumpy and doesn't flow as well. Shame since this is 300 bpm, which is pretty comfortable.
Pluto: Stops are confusing, but the piano is nice.
Pluto Relinquish: I love this song more than a lot of things. Steps fit the tone of the song.
Horatio: Eh.
on the bounce: CSP's good, in my opinion.
Trigger: This should have never existed. The song is boring, and the charts are generic.
roppongi EVOLVED: Why do people like these charts so much? But I mean, they're good.

I guess I'll bite on giving some of my opinions.


CANDY☆: History might be rough on this one since chart making has come a long way, but there is a reason this has been so popular historically.

KAKUMEI: I haven't played this one enough to have too much of an opinion other than it not being enjoyable enough to have played it much.

DanceDanceRevolution: I really enjoy the concept of what they did, but they probably could have chosen which patterns to use in which places better. However, this left the ground work for things like Paranoia Revolution which was very successful.

CHAOS: I don't think I've ever played this one in the arcade. It's nice that they tried something new with a song, but I find it very hard to follow the stops musically and I personally don't enjoy the sound very much.

TRIP MACHINE PhoeniX: It is nice to have two interpretations of a song listed at similar difficulty levels, but the result to me felt like there was only one or two spots in the chart that deserve the rating. Maybe the two charts could be mixed together to create a more stable difficulty level throughout. I'm really thinking of the step jump step jump patterns in that I dont think match the rest of .

PARANOiA ~HADES~: I like that we have an example of what a comparatively slow bpm 18 looks like and it deserves that rating. I find it kind of fun in that unrelenting demented way.

Pluto: To me Pluto is pretty much a more successful CHAOS. I find it easier to follow musically (most of the time) and I like large portions of the actual step patterns.

Pluto Relinquish: This one holds a special place to me for being one of the first 17s I worked really hard to pass. Since then I've realized it is really just the ending of and (along with one run of step jump step jumps) that are hard, but at the same time I've come to realize how much fun most of the rest of the chart is to me.

Horatio: Drills and drills. I like the song but can't say I really like the chart much. I have not tried the chart, but since it isn't the chart from the CS release it gets some amount of approval from me anyway.

on the bounce: This one is alright but not really anything noteworthy to me.

Trigger: I feel like they probably didn't need to try to get an 18 out of this chart as it has too much that feels stepped to nothing.

roppongi EVOLVED: I really like how the four versions all have their differences. This actually seems like the most successful of the multiple version charts to me in that it doesn't feel like the entire first half of the chart is the same for each version. Version D is a bit mean though.

Valkyrie dimension: I actually think these charts are pretty well done. might be too hard to be reasonable, but I don't think it was ever meant to be reasonable and it still manages to flow pretty well.

UNBELIEVABLE (Sparky Remix): There is really only one thing that stands out about this song to me. I love that on it puts a spin on the lyrics "Spinning around". Other than that I find it an alright chart but nothing special.

NEPHILIM DELTA: Perhaps this could have used another difficulty level, but for what it is I think this is a great chart. I find it to be twisty enough to be fun and not too fast to the point of painfully twisty.

SILVER☆DREAM: I felt some Jun boss song fatigue by the time this one came out and so I really don't have much of an opinion on this one.

Tohoku EVOLVED: This one is difficult and that's really the only thing I usually think about it. The difficulty is for the most part fairly well done so I don't really have any complaints here.

LOVE IS THE POWER -Re: born-: I'm not sure I ever got around to playing this one.

MAX. (Period): It was nice to finally get it in an arcade release and was nice to get a new for it.

Over The "Period": This one is once again really hard, but I think it is fair in what it does and once again flows pretty well. It took me a few times looking at it to figure out what it was doing, but once I figured out what it was doing I rather like it (Even if it's too hard for me). I particularly find the constantly changing bpm section (The first one with jumping bpms, not the later steadily increasing bpm) fun on .Shoutouts to spins during the beginning with a slow enough bpm for them to be fun.

Ace For Aces: Split timings can lead to some nice things depending on how they use it. I am curious to see how this turns out once it is fully unlocked.

I'll rate only songs not charts cause i never played DDR in my life. 😭
CANDY: Sweet...but nothing special
KAKUMEI: This song is strange...and kinda generic? I don't like remixes of classical pieces
DanceDanceRevolution: Nice and fun song, but it isn't my type
CHAOS: Really strange song
TRIP MACHINE Phoenix: My favorite remix of TRIP MACHINE
PARANOIA HADES: This remix is not as spooky as original PARA, but still cool
Pluto, Pluto Relinquish: I really love all the Plutos so yeah, also i think Pluto Relinquish sounds like separate song
Horatio: Fun song and BGA
on the bounce: very underrated; cool tune
Trigger: very underrated too, i have it in my playlist
roppongi: TOHOKU is much better tho; generic song
Valkyrie Dimension: Nice and bossy
UNBELIEVABLE (Sparky remix): meh, isn't my type at all
NEPHILIM DELTA: very badass
Tohoku EVOLVED: It was my favorite song EVER but now we've got ENDYMION
LOVE IS THE POWER: I've never had heard this song
MAX. (period): Epic, i love the 600 BPM portion
AFA: I used to not like this song but now I find it very catchy and nice

Oops!! I forgot about on the bounce in my ratings.

Long story short: this song pushed me to master the hard songs. I thought of all the boss songs of DDR X (for PS2) on the bounce was the easiest of them all. Thus, I focused exclusively on that particular song and eventually passed all the charts. Once I felt satisfied, I completed almost all the boss songs with ease (I narrowly passed Pluto Relinquish and Trigger challenge)

So... A was a good mix. Maybe not 3rd Mix, EXTREME, or X2 good, but it was solid. I'd put it about the level of SuperNOVA 2 or X3, all things considered.

And it's really good to play an official release in the States again, even though they kind of obscured the tracklist (I think!?) to make missing licenses look less... "missing?" I have no idea why, for instance, "SABER WING ~satellite silhouette mix~" is in the 2014 folder... but whatever. I'm almost surprised they didn't arrange the entire tracklist to match the PS2 versions, haha! Probably a good thing they didn't do that, though. Some of the 17s and up make me feel like an old man. I mean... part of me has learned to appreciate the charts to 18 songs (which are still usually solid 14-15s); but another part of me is like... "this is the beginning of admitting defeat" while a third me is like "but not stuff like Anti-Matter or AETHER because that's fun as shit and nothing's wrong with that". Plus, while some people groan at them, I'm actually GLAD to play Touhou songs with fun charts on them. Sure, they're not Touhou Pad Pack Rebirth good, but they're still some of the better charts in the game.

This game made me *really* like Last Note., too. I felt late to the party upon discovering their too-few-already tracks in the game.
