It's a real shame that since NAOKI has taken over the CS part of the franchise it has gone on a downward slope toward eventual failure. I have to kind of laugh looking back on how we used to rip and complain about the older US CS games, but now we can only wish we could return to them. Honestly, I'm hoping to see a DDR announced at E3 this year that will really upstage last year's releases in a big way, but I feel the chances of that are rather low. At least we have a strong arcade team now.
This. Absolutely this.
The current CS team has absolutely no idea what makes a successful DDR game. Steps to them seem secondary; if the song is there, people will play it, seems to be their train of thought. HP4/PS3 has some of the most inappropriate licenses in any DDR game, no EDIT, no DOUBLES, and just ignores all the engine improvements that the AC games have been making. Grading has been dumbed down to ridiculous levels, and the game has less content on-disc (for a full priced game!) than games from almost a decade ago. One shot of DLC injected a little fun, but they seem to have abandoned that avenue as well.
I didn't mind the lack of features in the HP series when we still had a more "proper" AC port to choose from, but now we don't have this choice. I always found the HP series to be a fine spin-off, a nice sub-series for a more casual player, but it can't prop up the series by itself.
Again, I say this a lot, but EXTREME2 was pretty much an ideal balance: recognizable licenses mixed with Dancemania, a large selection of songs new to the region, a fun master mode that was very beginner-friendly, and all the features we've come to expect in DDR.

I have a lot of respect for NAOKI, but I think he may need to step back from his new role and focus on the music once more. I haven't found myself enjoying his newer soungs as much as I enjoyed the Paula days. I did enjoy DEEP ROAR/Brilliant R.E.D/Red Zone.

I do! I believe that the JP development team may need to show this poor US team how to make a 1/2 decent game. Usually when the US has branched off on their own PS2 releases, Japan has released one with similar originals and interface(Party Collection,Strike), but in this case they won't entertain the idea. Smart move IMO.

Also, yes. Naoki hasn't been doing much of a good job to be honest. I wouldn't be surprised that this was the person who let go of BeForU and made them become unfamous.
His strategies are questionable at best, he let other people do the CS games (well, at least for DDR PS3) and didn't complain one bit on glaring inconsistencies between what they've done and what Konami has done (really, no doubles, edit mode, no 20-footer ratings, 5th mix song wheel when X2 AC finally uses cover flow). I'm listing "questionable licenses" separately since jun did a good job choosing what songs to put in SN2, when I'm sure they don't really understand the non-japanese songs. I'm surprised it still had Octo-Move mode.
I know he didn't do all those things, but he should have a say on what goes and what does not. Even his not-elusive-anymore demeanor (seriously, there was a time when he was so mysterious) doesn't give enough pity after what happened with that.
I still have respect for Naoki.

The events list here said that DDR PS3 for Japan was cancelled as announced by Famitsu magazine.
Only the PAL version will be published (if it ever will be).

It seems like Konami is jumping ship on its own game.
And they need to focus on DM. If we felt bad about DLC, it is nothing in comparison to 30 songs and ridicoulus costumes for a fee

I'll take that IGN site with a pinch of salt, as their description remains that of E3 2009.

Festival and EXTREME2 were made by the Japanese team as well.

Since the XBOX 360 version was canceled I doubt we will be seeing much more DLC. Maybe a little but certainly not a lot.

I was kind of afraid of that. I'm just hoping they don't totally cancel the DLC though i'm sure they won't.
they're not that silly, I'm sure.

Is making console games of DDR really that unprofitable right now? This might have something to do with Naoki asking how people felt about the next game being downloadable. I wonder how much of a profit margin DDR S+ had. If it's anything like most other iOS apps it was big enough to make Konami rethink their strategy.
Maybe the games are being cancelled as physical discs while they make the code downloadable.

DDR Freedom was an aborted fetus that sprung from the depths of hell and crawled through the valley of pop culture and 4chan to make it's way into the crevice of Konami's bunghole and it laid baby Girugemesh eggs and that's what we got.

DDR X seemed like a great step forward for US CS releases. Its a shame stillwind passed away, since I think we wouldve had something much different if he was still around.
