Well, I'm out of vetos and someone already dumped my song, so see you in the next round where the same thing happens.
Well, if everyone stopped submitting songs that are likely to be vetoed or just downright unsteppable, then everyone would be happier in the end, now wouldn't they? I mean, we give points to the top file submitters for a reason.

Haha, this might be the shortest thing I ever stepped.
It's probably gonna be a 7 or 8 on the highest difficulty but I think I can still do it.
This is probably 01angel or SupremeX?
Also, I think Feraligatr got his own skeleton this round. XD

A veto well used. I hopefully will make something good out of this, I already have ideas. The inherent challenge is making it reasonably difficult without going overboard.

I'm not necessarily opposed to chiptune/retro video game music, but if the song's going to be even more repetitive than the previous songs I had to step, then I'd like to use a veto, please.

I mean, we give points to the top file submitters for a reason.
Is this referring to the actual song submitters, or the general step quality? (sorry if this is a stupid question, just for me the quote above is worded kinda awkwardly ^^;)

To the song submitters. If you submit a good song, no matter who receives the file, the chances of it getting vetoed will be smaller and the chart quality will usually be better too, leading to a higher chance of receiving extra points for that file. Cheese submissions should be discouraged since they are not likely to get any points at all, either because the resulting file won't be good or because it was vetoed.
What constitutes a "good" song is still subjective, though, so use your best judgement.

What constitutes a good song is subjective, that's why it's objectively rewarded.

If you're really good at making simfiles, you'll make a good simfile out of just about anything you get through the shuffle. The excuse of "I don't normally step X or Y" doesn't really apply unless you get a genuinely shite song that can't be done in a week's time. Expand your stepping horizons, it's not all EDM and j-pop and whatever subgenres IIDX and pop'n poop out all the time. Do the best you can with what you get, I bet you'd be surprised at what you can do if you commit to it over the course of a week.
Submit whatever song, I don't care, as long as it could be stepped and whoever has to play it afterwards will enjoy it.

Please don't do the thing where you don't step a file because (bad song)/(someone vetoed your song)/(other excuses), it can be really annoying to the people who actually do put in the effort (to step something, at the very least)

Feel like voting this week.
+3 chaos and creation
+3 Candy Drop
+3 Prelude - You did what you could. The steps are great disregarding the BPM fluxuations.
+3 Bang
+2 I'm Just a DJ
+1 99 - Definitely your best yet. My gripes with it only have to do with patterning choices here and there that kind of break the flow of the steps before (no doublesteps/ambiguous steps tho which is great). There are some really nice crossovers and other patterns in there otherwise. Keep it up
It's Always Better (When I'm With You) - You should aim for the player to use one foot after the other. That is what the files that get points are doing at the very least. Before you submit your steps, test them to make sure you don't have to use the same foot twice in a row at any point, unless it's during a freeze. Any other tips to help him out, guys?

I've got a tip for SupremeX that really helped me improve my file-making:
Don't face forward the entire time when playtesting.
If you don't have a pad, pretend as if there is one on the floor.
Be sure to turn your body when it is needed to avoid doublestepping, to catch crossovers and spins, and to make sure your files don't face in one direction for a prolonged period of time!
The reason why I wasn't catching doublesteps and ambiguous patterns in my old files was because I never knew you weren't supposed to face forward the entire time when playing DDR or StepMania, even though I've been playing DDR since kindergarten. Wow, me...
So, when you playtest...don't forget to turn your body and I pretty much guarantee you will improve!

I've already mentioned this in my review but I'll mention it again; DO NOT FIXATE ON KARAOKE STEPPING. A big problem with It's Always Better (When I'm With You) is that stepping only the lyrics and nothing else usually leaves you with large gaps of nothingness between lyrics. You could be filling those gaps in with more steps that go with another instrument in the song.

But the way you phrased it made it sound like even simple patterns where you use the same foot (like LLDDUURR) are bad also. You could've just said doublestep.
And all doublesteps aren't bad, either. Bad doublesteps which fuck up the flow of a file are bad.

You're right. I didn't have the two-or-more-of-the-same-step thing in mind. But I wanted to clarify what I meant by a doublestep which is why I didn't simply say 'doublestep'. And yes, I know not all of them are bad. I left that out because he should get the basics down first before trying to use them as a stylistic choice.
