Electrocoin run a trade-in scheme, where you can trade in your old Dancing Stage cabinet for a new dedicab. Electrocoin manufacture the cabinet, and refurbish the stages they receive, to send out with the new cabinets.
Indeed so, but there will be an upfront lack of parts until people part-exchange (no-one will give a cab away until they take delivery of the new one), then latencies whilst the stages are refurbished (and having had experience with this that's no small task).
Also, they won't part ex on imported cabinets :{ Not that I'm remotely tempted to, but still...

I'm going to guess it won't have the music on it to test the chart out so now I am wondering, how are we going to test out the chart? I know we can just use Stepmania, but I don't think Konami would want us to initially do that.
More than likely (and hopefully) the PC program might come with the initial songs for DDR X, with the possibility of having DLC songs as they are unlocked through e-amuse (for ex. Chance and Dice won't initially appear when it is released, but as time goes by and once it gets unlocked, they might update the program with a song patch to include the song on there so that you can make the edit for it)....that's just my guess =P

My worry is that they will just drop it and only JP gets edits. No really, would it surprise you?

...but they DID PROMISE it to us PLUS they said the AC will include SD cards on it, so going back would literally let every single US DDR person down...BIG TIME

Erm, the US arcade release will also come with the release of PC software that allows us to make edits and transfer them to an SD card to be played on the arcade.
That makes me smile. It's about time Konami realized that we just want to play our custom edits and favorite songs. But, erm... an SD Card...? C'mon, so now I have to have a Portable Hard Drive, 3 USBs (one large one, two small ones), AND an SD Card WITH the adapter for it?
I'm going to bet they'll try to make some special file system so that we can't use our stepmania edits. Oh well, good luck with that, Konami...

Why can't we agree on a uniform filesystem? Why choose between RAR and ZIP? Why choose between OGG and MP3? Why choose between DOCX and ODT (<<<ODT FTW, screw you Microsoft Office).
Oh! Do you think they'll let us have ingame movies? Dude, I'd totally flesh out the cash for a PC release of DDR if I could have ingame movies.

@RTCB: Different formats have different strengths and weaknesses. They don't all exist just to confuse your tiny mind.

How is this person able to play an edit of will? At first I thought it was an r21/SM cab, but you can clearly see at the end that its in fact a DDR X machine.

Why would they give out the movies? Furthermore why would they give them with a program to write steps? It doesn't serve any purpose towards that end.
Standardized file formats would be wonderful but there is strong business motivation to develop proprietary formats, so don't hold your breath for them. Besides, it's completely inconsequential to switch and convert between many, many formats.

It's pretty blurry but I could have sworn I saw something sticking out right below the keypad on the right. Maybe it's my imagination but... data card, possibly? SD, USB or otherwise...
Then again this could be BS, but I haven't seen Will.
Edit: Inconsequential my arse. It's freaking annoying is what it is. What do they think they're doing, protecting themselves?

Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't there measures taken to fix edit problems so that "hands" would not become a situation? That chart and the one I saw for Chance and Dice (amazing how that song keeps coming up in discussion, huh?) look criminally insane! They don't do the songs justice (or even Blind Justice). As for a will edit existing, that has a lot of 'splainin to do because IIRC you can't make edits on the Wii, let alone a system transfer to PS2/AC.

Here you can see that it clearly says 'EDIT DATA'. And yes, is the same chart for the same song.

When making an edit, it allows you to select what difficulty to put it in. If you have it as the Challenge difficulty, it will give you the Shock Arrow background movie unless it already has a video.
It only gives you the shock arrow video for the US CS version. Not sure about JP CS.

Actually it gives the shock arrow bg video even if it already has a video. I remember being dissapointed about it when playing Horatio.
Also, it has the shock arrow video in JP CS.

Actually, the shock arrow movie appears only for songs with shock arrows themselves when choosing challenge as the level of edit data. I learned this after making edits for all of the X-Edits and Flight of the Phoenix. Even SABER WING does this despite having its own video, but this only applies to the US versions. IIRC, I think JP CS is in the clear for that situation. It only gives you the shock arrow video for the US CS version. Not sure about JP CS.
EDIT: I was beaten to the punch about shock arrow bg in JP.
