Do we know what specifically causes the lag?
It's funny because there have been nearly four arcade releases since EuroMix2 here in Europe yet when I visit places EM2 is STILL the most frequent and most played cabinet with the newer versions barely seen or played at all from what I've seen.

I played the Blackpool Location Test today, and didn't notice any sync issues, even though I was looking for them. Maybe it's running a different software version, or it's a hardware problem? The timing on the Blackpool machine just feels like playing Japanese DDRX, on a UK cabinet (if that makes any sense).

It's just really well designed, and manages not to feel convoluted or foreign? The original EuroMIX is a lot more well designed, but hasn't aged very well, wheras EuroMIX 2 still looks fairly modern, and has a deep songlist, which is fairly timeless. It's also what people now recognise as the de-facto "dancing game". There have been a ton of dancing games on the AC and PS2 market, but EM2 is the one people instantly recognise as being the good one.
Co-incidently, I think DDR X2 eclipses both of them in terms of design. The songlist is laid out in a very specific way, and the attract screen is really nicely done. Putting an DDR X2 and an EM2 side by side would be a very interesting experiment, but I think that EM2 is so ingrained into everyone's psyche as being "the dancing game", that it would still make about twice as much money, on brand recognition alone.

Tyma, if you could get the software revision on that cab if you're going again, then we'll know.

I'm going to drive near it again on Monday, so I'll try.
It might be that I'm just not good enough to notice a small sync issue. I specifically played Let The Beat Hit Em, so I could fuck around hitting notes early and late, and try to find the edges of the timing window, and they didn't seem to change at all. It just seemed like the Japanese DDRX timing window, as opposed to the SuperNOVA timing window, or the DDRX Location Test timing window (those are the only 3 I can really compare).
I played and full-combo'd all of the songs we don't have clean MP3s for, and AA'd most of them. I'd say it's fine, but then I can barely scrape the AA window, so a better player might be able to notice the Marvelous window moving around, wihle I can't :{

It depends how you play, if you play to the audio, you will notice a drift. A high BPM song will go more off than a low BPM song we've found, but if you find you don't notice a drift in the high BPM songs either then there's hope they've fixed it in the latest revision, if it is a later revision.
The one in Feltham was JDX:E:A:A:2010090800, just for reference, and did have timing drift.

Which adds extra irony considering that it had no real direct home version which means it's done all that on arcade appearances alone.

I think that more than that, people recognise "Dancing Stage" itself and the design of the cabinet. The new DDR X type design is so different that it may as well be a completely different, copycat game. Konami handled the name changeover so poorly that in many ways it may as well be as far as the general public is concerned.
I haven't actually seen the new game being played. What are the things you mentioned like and do you have links to videos or anything? I'd love to see.

Melody Life: Fuck. Yes. The greatest Noria song, ever.
Kind of weird seeing a new colors song in DDR.

It's a bit odd putting Pierce the Sky as the last song there. You'd think they'd put it in difficulty order.Post #5117 · Posted at 2010-11-02 02:42:40pm 14.8 years ago

I thought the same at first, but then i noticed that it was actually scrolling along, Valkrie is the last song and Pierce the Sky is the first.
you can see that the top song of the list has already been cut off due to the scrolling
also it seems like they didn't know where to put Mei so they just bunged it in Pluto Story for the hell of it.

I can't say I'm too happy about Pluto The First appearing on the arcade, other than that, good.
Pluto in Japanese is called 冥王星 mei-ou-sei, so yeah lol.
