If I am correct, in the DDR Extreme start up, 8th mix is referenced at some point, or at least it is somewhere on the game disc. (I remember reading that on a forum a while back, but I can't point anyone to where)

DDR EXTREME start up doesn't reference anything about 8thMIX, not sure about the CD though.

Well, remember when the tracklisting for the X/FFP OST leaked? The CS songs were listed as "DDR 10th Mix Exclusives" or something like that. So EX should be called the 8thMIX.

Thanks for correcting me. It must have been in the game or somewhere, I swear I read that about a year or two ago, probably on DDR Freak in the Arcade forums there.Post #5105 · Posté à 2009-04-20 09:30:07am il y a 16.6 années

I doubt Konami was planning SuperNOVA when Extreme came out, considering the 5 year gap.

I know Konami intended on bring DDR to the states, but the timing was wrong. Extreme AC got to the states around March 2003 and then DDR ARCADE just kinda shut down. SuperNOVA was first "mentioned" in August 2005 when an interview with Yoshi Ota and Naoki about the "upcoming" Guitar Hero and DDR's success. And then Chris Chike became an addict of band games and left DDR to die.
DDR (by Guitar Hero fanboys) is dead until Chris approves of it again. Please Chris, make a video of Trigger or Pluto Relinquish and breath life into DDR.
Really? WTF

DDR Extreme was never brought to the states if I am correct. Most copies are bootlegs, though few are imported from Japan.

I am talking about dedicated cabinets from JP. ( I know most are bootlegs, but I play on an extreme decicab at Gatti's that is the real deal) The company that brought it to Amarillo had picture proof of it in Japan (no, it was the same machine as in the pictures)

8th mix - overall a great game, I loved most of the licensed songs steps and most KOs
But what is 8th mix?
A misnomer for DDR EXTREME.
It was called 8thMIX during development because the MAX series was expected to continue but did not. People still refer to EXTREME as the "8th" major arcade release by mistakenly naming it 8thMIX in conversation (DDRUK still calls their simfile bumper for EXTREME "Dance Dance Revolution 8thMIX -EXTREME-").

Don't forgot that Roxor took advantage of Konami's dry spell in the DDR world. And thus was the god of custom edits known solely as ITG born. They made their fortune by appealling to old players. And it worked.
And then Konami had the brilliant idea
I think it's interesting... So, chronologically it would be:
EXTREME - 8th Mix
SuperNOVA - 9th Mix
SuperNOVA 2 - 10th Mix
Am I getting it right so far?

We've only seen three official arcade releases off DDR in America:
Dance Dance Revolution USA
DDR: SuperNova
DDR: SuperNova2
Dance Dance Revolution USA
DDR: SuperNova
DDR: SuperNova2

I've never understood why people go batshit crazy over people calling EXTREME 8th mix.
It's the arcade installment after 7th mix, it has new songs, it has a new look, it's everything "8th mix" would have been. It's 8th mix by every meaning of the name, whether konami ever labeled it such or not.

God, Chris is so full of himself. He originally came off as a nice guy when I met him last summer, but after seeing some of the shit he does, I can't stand him. But he'd definitely be a better trendsetter/role model then some of the other druggie players out there, coughbluemysticcough...
And as much as I'd like to see DDR being big again, I don't think it'll happen unless Konami decides to go all main-stream on us. No one wants to dance to songs they don't know, so they play songs on Guitar Hero that they DO know.

Either that, or make DDR games with only licenses.

You know, Konami could totally sue Activision and take over the whole thing...
Well, they could have. I bet by now there will be doubts raised over the fact that Konami ought to have taken action sooner if they cared. But then, they're probably making a profit over all this.
So maybe it's good business. That doesn't change the fact that they make me want to kill myself.
As for the issue of dancing to songs you don't know, oh c'mon, at least Konami makes the effort to include American songs. I haven't seen Gekkou Chou on GHRB yet...
