I still think that local eAmuse/USB profiles similar to those of racing games would be pretty kick ass

I guess it is because Asians markets have a bigger market and advantage for Konami than the Western.
Hence it is understand that Konami would pay more attention to the Asian markets than Westerns.
I would say it is a business practice. Most businesses are often like that unfortunately...

If they took that sort of view at the Western market, they risk pissing off the most vocal part of the DDR community in EU/NA and players themselves would advise arcades against DDR.
If players tell arcades not to get it, it's not only bad for us, but also bad for Konami on lost revenue, so I don't see why they would want to risk lost revenue, and more importantly, reputation on their part.
The size of the markets is irrelevant, it's still potential revenue for Konami.

If USB were used properly (NOT locked to two or three specific brands, NOT requiring the purchase of a proprietary USB drive) then that would easily take the place of eAmuse, the cards, and be a wonderfully easier method or distributing updates and fixes and unlock codes.
It still bothers me that Konami absorbed the ITG properties and haven't even tried to incorporate the things that made it excel over DDR!

I do hope they try and add a USB profile system for unlocks and personal scores. It would save them money in the sense that they won't have to run an e-amuse server for North America.
It would be neat if you could have a rival like system where you compete against the machine record holder score for each chart you play.
It would be neat if you could have a rival like system where you compete against the machine record holder score for each chart you play.
The thing is:
1. KDE Should offer e-Amuse service, prior to USB-Profiles. If the store cannot buy the service, USB Profiles could be activated via Operator Menu (I think this is enabled by default, but will be override if the cabinet are connected to e-amuse)
2. It would be good if KDE open e-amuse servers outside Japan and North America. I have the address for the e-AMUSE servers (eamuse-konami.fun) and says "Your client cannot enter this page"
3. If USB Profiles are used, we can use rival scores, just saving and uploading the data into a website, that website will give you the DDR CODE.
@2: You can raise a good point out of that. If e-amuse could be provided on one central server for all continents, then providing e-amuse to places outside of Japan would cut the costs. Though that would call for a simultaneous release and we all know that will never
happen

@3: I thought about mentioning that, but instantly thought about hackers hacking their score then uploading it.
I think it would work better if they were only saved to the machine you got the score on and that's it. Having the scores saved on the USB would be more for personal reference.

I hate to say it, but KK is right. ITG was, IS a great game, but it was really too open to exploits.
Seeing as how DDR is a much more public game and is made by a Japanese company, where, as Aaron has said, there is no fair use to hide behind, the issues of copyright infringement and the like that may arise from allowing potential hacks to be implemented are much more serious.
Konami could be being stupid, but they could also be playing it safe.
Still, I do hope they enable some level of usb connectivity, and that said, if they DID use proprietary usb sticks, they could disable them for use on public pc's somehow anyway. Not too helpful, but I just got up so a better solution currently escapes me.
If they did it wouldn't matter so much that NZ will never get e amuse. I mean, if we actually got a machine. Currently, doesn't look like we will haha.

December is too long for me to wait for X2. They better be trying to fix the lag issue (or implementing USB profiles like Fiesta, and I think you can upgrade it via USB now? If so, I hope they're doing that))

Any details on the newest location test machine / software?
I should be able to go play it on the weekend.

Fiesta uses DAT files to store data and upload via Pumbi, a tiny application, powered by IE engine.
I think KDE can do the same with DDR X, using Konami ID, in case of log-in terms. (and not using IE engine, could be another engine)
-
Someone can check the newer location test later?

Just a thought: we'll most likely know how much is pre-unlocked on american DDR X machines by the following: whether there's a code to bring local-mode asian machines up to equivalent around the time of the american release (and knowing how much is unlocked on the funland build, that could easily be spread over two standard updates). Otherwise we may be looking at plain and simple for another few months. Deltamax, anyone?

SuperNOVA 2 only had two known machines that actually connected to e-Amuse. If they provided it again, Konami would most likely see similar numbers.
to be fair, that's only because one machine was in the konami offices in america, and the other was set up by konami reps wasn't it? or someone at the naperville arcade had connections?at any rate, it's not because konami offered e-amuse and only 2 locations wanted it, it's just that konami never really offered it at all and only gave it to two locations that were convenient for them

More like Konami offered it, nobody wanted it, and so Konami set up 2 themselves?
The sooner Konami realise how offputting and logisticaly impossible E-Amuse is, the sooner they can just allow us to use USB profiles instead of E-Amuse cards, and let us use them to track out own unlocks / pass lamps, without having to force arcades to jump through hoops, and provide a dedicated internet connection to one machine in their arcade, ontop of paying a ridiculous ammount of money every month.
E-Amuse doesn't work outside of Japan. It never will. Even if they gave the router away for free, and paid arcades to run the service, it simply isn't logistically possible, and it certainly isn't worth it.
The Pump-style USB profiles are the only way forward.

Just as a heads-up to UK players, I was hanging out with Trip Machine Tony in Trocadero yesterday and the X2 machine froze when he was playing doubles. I played some singles later and the screen flickered a few times also.

I've had SuperNOVA2 (once on a JP dedicab and once on a Betson cab) black-screen on me during the end run of PARANOiA -Respect-, but the music would keep going for approximately 1.5 seconds before I fail, at which point Screen Evaluation comes back up.
Hopefully it's not something like that.

That happened once to me on a Fusion, when I got a 'high-score' on a course, and it froze instead of doing a name entry thing.

It was happen too on MAX 2 ARC.

From experience, if the game suddenly "freeze / hang" the 1P arrows will skipped but not on 2P side.
On 2P side the arrows will running fast until it fit with the song.

Playing Doubles, I would always get the 2P effect during a hang. Happened on MAXX UNLIMITED once, funny, the song was almost finished before the game unfroze itself. I think I had over 200 misses before the game actually called it a failure.
