They changed quite a few ratings. It looks like they changed them in accordance with how they were rated in X2, and just translated it back down. Difficulties were only bumped up, not reduced, so it seems like difficulty standards have decreased overall. They bumped up Star Gate Heaven to an 8, INNOCENCE OF SILENCE, Gamelan de Couple, and RED ZONE to 9's, for example. Really though, I just wish they'd use the 18 point scale.

I'll give you Gamelan and Innocence, but I thought Red Zone would have passed for a 9.

maybe they're rating them in accordance to how hard they are to pass on softpads? Although if that was the case all songs over difficult should be rated at least 9's haha.

I can't think of anything that's harder on a softmat than on a metal pad o.O

The only reason I still have a soft mat lying around is so I can bust it out and use it to play through new boss songs, until I learn them well enough to play them "for real" on a metal pad, or in the arcade.

What it seems like they've done (except for Flow (true style) for whatever reason, maybe they just forgot) is convert anything in X2 that was 12-13 (and I'm going to assume 14's as well) into 9's, and 10-11 into 8's. If they have to be formulaic about it, I'd say 9-10 should be 7's, 11-12 should be 8's, 13-14 should be 9's, and 10's are 15+. I hate lumping 4 difficulty levels into 10, but such are the shortcomings of the 1-10 scale.

I've already said this.

Truthfully, it would be much easier if boundaries were more defined. A 10 can be either a 7 or an 8, same with 11. Some 8s are 10s and some 7s are 11s. In fact, 12s can be either 7, 8 or 9 (Brazilian Anthem, Centaur and Frozen Ray are some examples for each). If the boundaries were more defined, some accurate conversions can be made. But I have a feeling Konami doesn't want us converting them, anyway, because that would ruin the point of the new scale.

On one hand, there are only five 10s

On the other hand, the gulf between Max 300 and Fascination Maxx is pretty wide.

I don't think it really matters in the long run... In a game with thirty 10-footers, maybe, but anyone able to even think about playing those songs is either going to know how each song plays, or be able to take a glance at all 5, and quickly figure out which one they should be attempting to pass first.

Not confirmed but it seems the DDR webpage is asking for a top 5 songlist.

Not just that, but take a look at their newest picture...

....it has the DDR X2 AC logo on there...so they acknowledge that there is now DDR X2 AC and it could be possible that we may be getting DLC for X2 AC?
