5 is average.
9 is the highest I've ever given.
The reviews go from highest score to lowest.
I will say something good about your file.
I will say something bad about your file.
I will cite measures.

LAPLACE: 8/10

Wow... This is great! At first the video didn't work, and I was originally going to go "Ah, fuck it" and play it without the video, but that added so much to it. While you may have done too much too soon with the false-gallops beginning at 11, the rest of the song went flawlessly. I especially like the streamy ending, but then again, I'm a sucker for steps like In The Heat Of The Night (which explains my Always Smiling catastrophe last week). Unlike some of the songs this week, the stops were always flagged and the slowdowns never seemed contrived, so I never needed to worry about trying to step and then falling flat on my face because of a slowdown; I could feel where they were. The only thing that I found strange were the sixteenths starting at 41, but that's probably because it was a sight read. Otherwise, great job!

MARUNOUCHI SURVIVOR: 7.5/10
Well, this was... interesting. Sharpnel is really good normally, and this was no exception. I love streamy charts, and this was no exception. I love charts with videos and, again, this was no exception. So, why didn't I give you an 8 or higher? Two words: step placement. While all of your rhythms were immaculate--I wouldn't change any one of them--I found myself double-stepping a lot, and when you find yourself doublestepping that much that early (I'm talking about measure 17, BTW), it raises a few warning flags that, sadly, were justified. I'd have given you higher if a bit more mind was paid to these doublesteps, but still, a 7.5 from me is nothing to be ashamed of.

BOOGIE TRAIN '03: 7/10
This song made me feel happy inside. That being said, there were a few problems that were somewhat strange, but, like a lot of the other problems I found, were completely subjective. The first was the awkward turn coming from the D/R jump to the L/R one in measure 11 that made me have to footswitch for the next jump, which, while not subtracting from the chart overall, definitely didn't add anything. The second was the rhythms. Listening to it, I thought that the song had a triplet timing structure--not an eighth one. That's why I kept getting Greats on eighth notes such as the second eighth in measure 2 or the mini stream in measure 7/8. The last is the slowdown, which felt out-of-place, or at the very least too long. Keeping the chart at 220 for its entirety would keep a very upbeat, carefree tone--not one that makes me wonder "when'sitgonnaspeedupagainwhen'sitgonnaspeedupagainwhen'sitgonnaspeedupagain" constantly. However, that's not to say that I didn't like it; in fact, I loved it. The jumps such as those placed in measure 38 and 40 (with the quarter note in between) were great, you didn't whore out crossovers, the video added a LOT to the song which, like I said, made me feel proud to be a nine year old Japanese schoolgirl... pretty much everything that wasn't what I complained about was sublime, good job!

FALLEN ANGEL: 7/10
I didn't know where you were going with this, but I didn't really have to. The only part where I needed to know your intention of where one foot was supposed to start as opposed to the other was at the end of the slowdown (WAY too many freezes in that part, though, IMO)--I couldn't step on that up without feeling like I was wrong, or that I had to doublestep soon after. This is a song that would've benefitted from a CHALLENGE chart, though, as I feel like there are some parts that could be changed to be easier or harder in order to make a more "even"-feeling chart--namely, the emptiness from 25 to 33 feels awkward to step, and could be fixed by making it streamier in a hypothetical CHALLENGE chart. Then again, that's just me. A strong file overall, good job!

STRICTLY BUSINESS: 6.5/10
Generally, it was very good. The main problem, if I had to name one (and I do), is that, towards the end, there's quite a bit of doublestepping. It doesn't interrupt the flow of anything, it's just kind of a pet peeve of mine, and it took me a little bit before I realized that it was one rhythm cut and pasted a few times--which works well in some instances, this being one of them. It got off to a bit of a shaky start (measure 2 should've been two sets of off-beat eighth triplets, DLD DRD, as opposed to the two jumps you put there), and for the most part, I was turned in solely one direction, but, like I said, in general, it was quite good.

LET GO: 6.5/10
The beginning was good, but would be better with CUT2 applied. The sixteenths--Every. Single. One. Of. Them.--were totally unnecessary, and I felt that they even detracted from the chart. I felt like it could've been a fairly effective 8 as opposed to an easy 9, but I like what you did with the beginning. It somewhat fell apart towards the end. Though I like how you flagged your slowdowns with mines, I don't like how I needed to fumble around to figure out how you got those rhythms during them. They felt contrived, in my opinion. (Also, just a brief note, while I liked your rhythms a LOT in the beginning, the freezes during syncopated rhythms (measure 14) were awkward to hold.) You still did a very good job, though, don't get me wrong, it just... wasn't my favorite from you.

LIGHT OF WHITE MAGIC: 6.5/10
This was a pretty nice chart, and I had fun playing it, even though there were a lot of doublesteps. However, these doublesteps were acceptable because most of them were 200 BPM quarter notes, which are 100 BPM eighth, and those are pretty easy to doublestep. The only two problems that I have with them were pretty fundamental, although petty. The part from 35-51 feels like it should've been much more effective if it had more jumps; the freezes in that section made it feel... unpolished? I don't know the word that I'm looking for... but it was fine how it was, I just thought it would be more effective that way. But anyway. Same reasoning, but I felt like from the beginning until 35 could've been 100 BPM, exemplified especially from 19-35. Again, a petty thing that I could simply change on my own if I so chose, but, like the jumps, it's nothing that detracted from the file. It was good, and stood on its own.

ORATORIO: 6/10
It wasn't great, but it wasn't terribad either. I don't know what it is about this song--I just generally couldn't get into the steps. The reason I gave it an above-average score was because you executed the slowdown FLAWLESSLY. Well, I'm sure there were flaws, but they were undetectable to the untrained eye (such as mine). These steps were like white rice: they weren't bad--in fact, they were quite good--it's just that I've seen things like this before, and they ended up being a bit vanilla and--daresay--bland.

MONKEY DANCE: 6/10
That banner bothers me. Like a LOT.
The beginning of the file was really, really good. It followed the music enough, but not too much that it was like every other Monkey Dance file ever. The jumps were well placed, but my favorite section didn't even have jumps--it was from 10-17, when the subtley of the patterns that you used both came through and stayed in the background... It's hard to describe, really, but I get what I mean. Tongue It was like, a certain pattern for a certain amount of time, and then a different pattern as a break between sections, and then another... I'll stop talking now. However, it wasn't enough to save the file from all of the stuff that went wrong after that. You attempted to follow the music a bit too much after the beginning streams, which subtracted from what could've been a really, really good file, but some of the steps were even a bit before or after the song. For example, the sixteenth in measure 16 should've been the quarter afterwards, same with (1) all of the sixteenths after eighth-freezes like the one at measure 44, and (2) the sixteenth after eighth-freezes preceding a jump should be moved to the preceding eighth, like in the end of 45. DERP I'LL STOP TALKING, I'M CONFUSING.
Also this shouldn't have been a 9. 8, probably, not 9.

FAIRY TAIL MAIN THEME: 5.5/10
EXPERT: The sixteenths pretty much came out of nowhere for me. For example, at the end of the beginning stream (which could have been broken up a bit), the sixteenth at measure 10 came in a bit too early for my taste--I feel like it would be more effective if it followed the music more accurately. Moreover, you have a CHALLENGE chart--use it! A lot of the difficulty in this chart seemed a bit forced to me, especially the longer streams and the sixteenths. I'm all for well-made easy charts, and I feel like, if the entire chart was more like measures 15-18, the song would feel more substantial, even if it was easier. 5/10
CHALLENGE: These steps were marred with the misuse of sixteenths and jumps, though not by very much; it's just me being nitpicky. Offbeat jumps are not OK, IMO, such as those placed awkwardly between sixteenth streams in measures 24 and 25. Moreover, the sixteenths in the beginning VS in the end seemed... schizophrenic. In the beginning, a bit of scatter in the sixteenth streams (URDRU as opposed to URURU, for example) would help the chart, and keeping the sixteenths at the end could easily be kept orderly and neat as opposed to the WTF IS THIS CROSSOVER DOING HERE AAAHH NOW I HAVE TO DOUBLESTEP ones that you have currently. Overall a good chart, don't get me wrong, but it does have room for improvement. 6/10

TIME BOMB: 5/10
I like technical charts a fair bit--in fact, a lot of my charts are pretty technical themselves, being pretty freeze-walk and crossover heavy. However, "making technical steps" doesn't mean "throw doublesteps everywhere and disregard what freezes accomplish". The beginning of the chart was much more substantial than the end, and I actually really liked measures 5-13. Your usage of the stops caught me off-guard, but were never contrived. The problems were what I mentioned before, though; there were a lot of crossovers that I definitely caught, but a lot that I missed as well--or, at least, it looked that way, because I was doublestepping all over the place. As for the freezes... Well, IMO, they're very niche, and difficult to use VERY well. I've mainly seen them used to fill up space and to indicate where turns are meant to be. They're simple objectives, but your usage of them to plant one foot and make the other doublestep (such as around the first beat of measure 22) gave me a bad taste in my mouth and just felt... weird. Also the first refrain's steps were MUCH stronger than the second.

DREAM LAYER: 5/10
The song was nice, and it would really have a lot of potential if it wasn't made into a boss chart. Not only did the sixteenths after the speedup (1) break the flow of the song and (2) come out of freaking NOWHERE, it felt like the song was trying to "find itself" throughout the chart, especially the part from 32-40--almost like it didn't know what to do with itself, and then it went, "oh yeah, I should use taps here". Overall a nice song choice, though, it's just that you took it in a different direction than I was expecting. (I played the DIFFICULT chart, and, in all honesty, you could've just moved everything up one difficulty level and, with a few touch-ups, that would've been a great EXPERT chart for this song.)

LIGHT SHINE: 4/10
I was... not a fan. Seeing a song like Light Sine as a 9 with that Groove Radar already sent up red flags, but once I got to the part where that rap was sampled I was like LOL WTF AM I PLAYING. The awkwardly-placed sixteenths really left a bad taste in my mouth, and I stumbled attempting to get the rhythms right. Even though I had heard the song before, those rhythms didn't come naturally to me... just think about what would've happened if someone sight-read this. Thankfully, during the "refrains" (such as that one starting at 8) were well put-together, although the Freeze-taps (measure 9), Orion jumps (35) and just three jumps in a row (39) seriously could've just been taken out and I wouldn't have missed them.

BLOOMIN' FEELING: 0/10
The file wouldn't load in my StepMania. Well, I mean, StepMania recognized that it was there, that it had an .mp3, banner and background and such, but it didn't realize that there was an .sm to go along with it and, when I went into Edit Mode to find measure lines to cite, I noticed that there weren't steps for any of the difficulties on any mode. Hm. Neutral

THAT BEING SAID.

Boogie Train '03 - Fun chart. The doublesteps didn't feel out of place and were a lot of fun. The slowdown was also well executed - you managed to maintain the same pace while lowering the step density, which was pretty cool. Nice work.

Dream Layer - This only felt like a 10 in one section. Otherwise, this was a really solid 9, with some fun rhythms and well-executed crossovers.

Fairy Tale - The heavy was fun and pretty much charted perfectly. It could have used a few more jumps, but everything else was spot on. I especially liked the fact that you didn't abuse sixteenth clusters. The challenge was also fun, although it definitely felt overcharted in areas. I thought that you provided a nice contrasting rhythm though - the steps didn't really follow anything in the song, but they definitely worked.

Fallen Angel - Loved it. My only complaint here is that the freeze eighths in the slowdown weren't really necessary, but this was otherwise spot on

Laplace - This was pretty good. The only part that really stood out to me was the chaotic section towards the end, but everything else flowed nicely, although it was rather bland imo.

Let Go - This was a good chart, but I felt like there was so much going on in the background that could've made for some interesting patterns and you missed a lot of opportunities. There were jumps and taps an crossovers, but I felt like they were in the wrong places. Also, the slowdown section was annoying, at least in my opinion.

Light Of White Magic - This chart felt REALLY spare to me. I don't really know why you chose to do that, because it felt intentially undecharted and kind of boring. There were also a few wird doublestepping patterns, but that might have just been me

Light Shine - I actually like how you handled the hip-hop sections, although in a few areas the chaos was a little excessive. Outside of that, the parts in between were handled nicely and were a nice change of pace from the more chaotic parts. I feel like this should have been the challenge chart though and you should've made an easier heavy.

Marunouchi Survivor - Interesting use of doublesteps here. Outside of that this chart was unspectacular (although I loved the song) but it flowed pretty well and was nicely put together.

Monkey Dance - Pretty good. The sixteenths were a little weird, and there doublestepping felt unintentional and random, but the chart wasn't bad it all. It actually reminded me a bit of a real DDR chart in some spots, which is a good thing :3

Oratorio - Pretty much perfect in every way. I have no complaints about this one.

Smooth - Interesting. I didn't agree with the gallops, but everything else seemed about right for a slow 7. The chart wasn't particularly intersting imo, but it wasn't bad. It just fel a little bland for me.

Time Bomb - I loved the freeze doublesteps. I felt that they were really appropriate and added a lot of depth to this song, which was otherwise a standard "easy 8" chart. Good job.

BOOGIE TRAIN '03: I already talked to you about this one Tongue

Dream Layer: Good patterning. Some of the rhythms are a bit odd, but on a scale of 1 to Flash Exclusives Happy it rates pretty high, I'd say. I tried the doubles chart as well, but there were some rather fatal doublesteps and sudden cross-pad patterns and I couldn't get into it.

Fairy Tale: This song choice is hardly out of thin air, I dig it Puppy Face As usual, I didn't really care for your Challenge chart, so I played the Heavy as well. I'm not honestly sure what was meant by any of the 16ths until about 2/3 of the way through the song - I'd say, take 'em out, break up the streams a bit, and call it a 7'.

Fallen Angel: This song is hot. The chart is like exotic ethnic (breaks ver.), but I think it works splendidly. Really wish I could vote for this one Tongue

Laplace: I have been listening to this track ALL WEEK. holy crap. The chart's a tasteful treatment of the track as well. Love the stops. I probably would have made this like an 11' if I'd discovered it first.

Let Go: Gosh, that slowdown is just strange. At least the first part of the chart makes some sense. And that is totally not the right way to step the We Will Rock You rhythm.

Light of White Magic: This is exactly the chart I would have avoided making if I were stepping this song. However! I like how it turned out. The first few measures's worth of notes were a bit hard to hear, but the rest was pretty cool.

Light Shine: Well, I wouldn't say this is your best chart ever, but it's not bad. The sixteenths during the rap are for the most part technically correct, but they don't flow very well, and the consecutive jumps are annoying at the end.

Marunouchi survivor: omg DJ Sharpnel up in this contest. The chart's well constructed around the high speed, and doesn't suffer from the sudden turns and twists you're sometimes guilty of. Also that BGV ;;

MONKEY DANCE: Those random 16ths scream Ctrl+R. Your patterns are improving, though, and the layers of the song you chose to step seem to be working well here.

Oratorio: The song ended earlier than I was expecting. The chart seems pretty linear in terms of rhythm choice, but not like there's much to work with.

Smooth: Lots of cool stuff going on here - interesting song choice, fitting rhythms. Except for those gallops, I'm not feelin' those at all Neutral The stop was also a bit weird.

Strictly Business: Not expecting this one. With this redesign the song plays more like a precursor to Spin the disc or Jam&Marmalade. An improvement, in my opinion.

Time Bomb: I can't decide how I feel about the freeze/step-step patterns in this chart. Sometimes they work splendidly, sometimes they make me grunt in frustration Oops

Looks like I'm out for this week, Stepmania thought it would be funny to delete all of my stepcharts for the song. Evil unless I can pull something at the last moment.

Unfortunately, due to time restraints and sickness I won't be able to get a file out this week.
Due to this I wasn't able to give any reviews this week like I wanted to, sorry. Hopefully next week I'll have more time and be feeling better.

Holy shit, it's been a stressful week.

I didn't have time to finish reikai's gimmick, so expect that next week.

Have some K-Pop JUST IN TIME instead.
I was tasked with stepping this for London Gaming Con for 3-4 Dec, so might as well piss on two birds with one kidney stone.

Just because it doesn't have a complex gimmick, doesn't mean I didn't put effort in.
The heavy and the challenge are quite different.

+5 Let Go (Telperion) - BRILLIANT mines and speed changes - 16ths in slow first part of awesome mine section were awkward though...
*Marunouchi Survivor*
+4 Smooth - Wow, you know Santana? Song choice alone carried this to points. Steps were good. I actually own a physical copy of this CD!
+3 Fallen Angel - Lovely
+2 Light of White Magic - I DON'T KNOW WHY I LIKE THIS SO MUCH
*Dream Layer* - Surprisingly fun the 2nd time I played it, don't remember the first time too well
+1 Time Bomb - alright song. Steps were good enough to warrant this a point.

+0 Boogie Train, Laplace, Monkey Dance - Lovely but not that interesting

Fairy Tail Main theme - song goes on, don't like it very much, and too repetitive, chart mixes it up but ends up not meshing well.

+6 Superb fictional simfile (Mr. Music)

Next time someone posts, I'll week 4 reviews, I guess.
