Recommend investing in better headphones.
45% MANA
NOTES: Probably the worst bracket in the round

Please elaborate. Is it the sound quality? I admit that I used I think 192kbps mp3 audio for converting to .ogg.
Haven't played all other files, including MANA yet so I didn't observe.

@mf: DDRDAIKENKAI stepped Misery Business a very long time ago for a pad pack called Ethereal Rising that I'd recommend looking at for some ideas. It's not a perfect file (actually I'd argue it does a couple of pretty dumb things like a 173 BPM 16th minijack; he's come a long way I think
)* but there's some good ideas buried in there.

Woo lawd, I remember that lol That was almost 6 years ago I think. I actually recently thought about going back and reviving it, redoing everything about it (steps, graphics, and music cut, since I have a higher quality version of it now).
I should have votes today, I'm a little less than halfway through the matchups, but so far it's looking really tough.
*I haven't played it in a while either so I forgot what all I did, but THAT, I do know what you're talking about and I totally agree with you lmao

I think I probably judge simfiles to BEMANI songs really harshly - now that I've played them in their origin games and gotten used to the rhythms in those charts. (I play both of these tracks in particular a lot :> )

"Thank you for releasing me!" |
Comments, if anyone cares.
And the updated totals!
xRGTMx vs CuzcoBlocko vs The Legendary DJXYZ:
Enigma Machine was good but felt a bit all over the place, though probably just because PROG METAL. Chance It was much better than I was expecting, but Expert was a little heavy on the crossovers. Ocean Avenue's audio quality was kinda low; the steps weren't terrible but weren't anything special. This one ended up being quite a bit closer than I was anticipating.
Winner: Enigma Machine
DDRDAIKENKAI vs ddrstepper
Dream Position had fun steps but the song was kinda meh. Some VGM can work well, but this one didn't quite click for me. I really liked Դե էլ Մի's fun rhythms, and it was stepped well to follow them. Inevitably, that was the deciding factor here.
Winner: Դե էլ Մի
darkanine vs Quickman
PARANOiA CLiMAX was very solid; both the song and steps felt like an official PARANOiA. It was maybe a tad too streamy, though. Violent seemed very slightly off-sync, and some of the gimmicks and speed changes felt unnecessary.
Winner: PARANOiA CLiMAX
Oni-91 vs gameboy573
FIRE FIREは電気スウィングの夢を見るか? was, once again, a very solid entry. Personally I thought they should've been 24ths but it still seemed fine somehow...? Anyway, may the better file win!
Telperion vs xXMokou98Xx vs hypnoticmarten77
I really liked Crepuscular Rays, both the song and steps; it was all very solid. Le Petit Prince had very good gimmicks, though the opening one seemed a bit cheap. Gale Rider is a great song, and the steps were pretty good too. This one was very close and a very tough call for me.
Winner: Crepuscular Rays
tsugaru7reveng vs Sigrev2
I really liked both of these songs. Arabian Rave Night was great, but maybe a tad overstepped in places? And MANA was very solid, but felt a bit too streamy at times. Between two great BEMANI songs, it was a tough call.
Winner: Arabian Rave Night
Spork! vs Nezemarth vs JunkoXXX
Energia! was overall pretty good. Song was OK, steps were alright, though I could've done without those streams in the speedups on Challenge. Muusou Mesorogiwi was overall just OK. The steps didn't really jump out at me. Element of SPADA wasn't terrible but still, the steps felt a bit too disconnected, like you weren't sure where your patterns were going at times.
Winner: Energia!
Lisek vs Astroman129
Ronron e rairairai!'s steps were pretty fun! The slowdown didn't seem totally necessary though. Clap Snap was well charted for the song, but I just really didn't care for the song. Stepwise, these two were very close, but song preference ended up deciding this one for me.
Winner: Ronron e rairairai!
vincentw vs NuVirus vs usaminseijin
Photo Shoot was a fun song, albeit a bit slow and long. Steps were really good though! Shiwase ni Nareru(etc.) was kind of a weird song. The steps were OK but it seemed like you tried too hard to follow the 'vocals' and could've branched out a bit. To Make the End of Battle was a good song (kinda makes me wanna play Ys) but the step patterns were a bit too simple.
Winner: Photo Shoot
Spirit of Nightmare vs chewi
You Carved Your Name was overall just OK. The song was fine, the steps were fine, nothing really jumped out at me. The song of みんなのうた was fine, but I really liked the steps. I loved the call-and-answer bit in the middle, really fun!
Winner: みんなのうた
Gameoson vs CLOUDIO
Danse de Romani had phenomenal steps, as I've come to expect from Gameoson. GASPANIK was very good too, though. The song was good, and the steps were also really good. This one was also kinda close, but...
Winner: Danse de Romani
ohaiimian vs Aegis
Sakura Luminance had very good steps, but I felt like the song dragged a little bit. Maybe it felt too much like "just another Sakura song". I really liked The Queen as a song, and the steps were really good too! Also, dat art.
Winner: The Queen
brunobg24 vs Pandemonium X vs Braeden47
一触即発☆禅ガール had overall pretty good charts. I liked the Challenge a bit better personally. 罪と罰 was very solid, but didn't really jump out at me in any way. I felt the steps followed the vocals a bit too much. I didn't really care for Luvly Merry Go Round at all. The song wasn't great, and the steps were kinda all over the place.
Winner: 一触即発☆禅ガール
Densetsu.EXE vs Loodee
Oshama Scramble! was pretty good. The steps followed the song well but still felt a little too crazy at times. Or maybe I was just distracted by that BGA. Sweet Devil was a great song and had very good usage of gimmicks. I actually liked Expert more than Challenge here.
Winner: Sweet Devil (colate remix)
ledgam3r1279 vs HealingDMax300 vs SupremeX
コスモス was overall solid but also just OK for me; can't really say much more about it. Shadows Of Our Past was also just kinda OK; the steps could've been varied a little bit more. Twinbee's Home Town Song's steps were a bit too scattered and didn't feel very solid. Also, when there's only one slowdown I don't think you need the ??? BPM.
Winner: コスモス
mf32892 vs Feraligatr
Misery Business - I like the song, but you used too much 'karaoke steps', especially in the verses. You shouldn't really put in those off-beat 16ths just to follow the vocals closer. Also the sync seemed to drift a bit toward the end. With Me was an overall OK song, but the steps were quite fun. The patterns felt a little weird at times though.
Winner: With Me

I'm sorry, but I genuinely need an explanation, really any kind, for how the first BPM change in Le Petit Prince is in any way tricky/difficult. I don't buy that anyone actually had a problem getting past that first part, or any part for that matter; I could not have dumbed the BPM changes down any more than I already did. This ain't a ploy to get votes, nothing of the sort, I would just like to know where the issue is.

This is just my opinion - but the slowdown and then quick speed up catches people off guard, especially when they don't know that it's going to be a gimmicky song. What I would've done is just slow down into the first step and return to full tempo at that step. I'm generally not a fan of quick speedups made just to stay in perfect 4/4 time with the steps, though this one isn't as bad as when it happens out of stops with no indication (not in your file, just in general). If it makes you feel any better, that alone wasn't the deciding factor for me, and I really enjoyed your chart.

i've said it once, i'll say it a million times more - having bpm changes or stops in a file doesn't automatically make it a goddamn gimmicky song

To be honest I missed like, the first two arrows of the heavy chart the first time. :/ I knew it was there for challenge so I didn't mess up there. Some people play purely based on sightreads (myself included) but I can say that Le Petit Prince is like a calmer version of Electro Stomp and if this is being penalized for the first gimmick only, shouldn't the same apply to Electro Stomp? ._.
I liked your file, Mokou, don't worry.

The first BPM trick was just very unexpected for me, that's all. I went in not realizing it was one of those types of charts, so I got caught by surprise. On a technical level I do think it's a well made chart but the steps themselves didn't appeal to me personally as much as I would have liked.

Would you rather me not use the word "gimmicky"? Yes, it's true that having BPM changes doesn't automatically make it "gimmicky". Let's be honest though, Le Petit Prince is a simfile that uses a lot of stops and BPM changes that aren't necessarily indicative of the song itself, as in you could make a simfile of Le Petit Prince that doesn't have stops and BPM changes.
Also, to clarify, by no means do I mean "gimmicky" to be a negative term. I had a lot of fun with the song and chart.

"five minute white boy challenge" |
Just as an FYI to people, I DID in fact make that oh-so-glorius Difficult chart with almost no thought or time put in whatsoever, reason being that NO ONE (and I do mean no one, I fucking checked) said a single thing about anyone's Difficult chart in the qualifiers. I thought "why waste my time with a chart that two or three people will play and no one will comment on?" and basically did the Difficult chart in about six minutes. Six minutes. Because no one judges them. People wouldn't give a fuck even if it was the best 3 ever. The only Difficult chart mentioned during the entire thread was the one made entirely without a fuck given. Of course, I'm not defending it in the slightest because it's fucking godawful. But that does sort of pose the question of why we should even be including them. Lots of people put lots of effort into them(well, I did in the qualifier anyway) - effort that we all see as "easy mode". Food for thought, by a lazy prick.

Some people just like playing the lower difficulties. Sometimes if I can AAA heavy of a file (say, Minna no Uta) I might go and AAA the rest of the difficulties to truly 100% the file. :/

It's been said that if you don't wanna vote for a bracket, you can. Loodee skipped DDRDAIKENKAI vs. ddrstepper for instance. I skipped Spork! vs. Nezemarth vs. JunkoXXX because of involvement (although I played them anyway, of course).
Honestly? Voting isn't necessary to begin with, the only difference it makes is in the case of the tie, the person that voted gets 0.001 of a point to be ahead (if both voted then it's a coin flip).

Geez, I'm starting to think writing comments was a bad idea. I honestly wasn't trying to come off as offensive and it feels like that's what happened anyway.

Yeah, it's why I don't bother writing comments anymore. People get overly defensive about their shit. This round I'm not giving any comments.
