"I'm honestly pissed off." |
I'm posting my reivews anyway.
Albida SX:
Streams are to technical for a 10. 16ths at 185 are hard enough, in a 10, they should either be shorter streams, or mostly drills and staircases, not candles all over. You do this in every chart, so I guess it's part of your style, but I prefer charts with simpler 16ths.
m56: Ambiguous step after the rolls.
Really inconsistent with placing jumps on cymbals. Sure, you're doing an 8th stream right there, but it'd be more consistent to stop the 8th stream to do just the jumps on the cymbals, to bring them out more.
Albida DH:
Opening feels really empty.
m43-49: You have this hold done crossed over, and cross out of it correctly, but why? Sightreading, it looks like an error, and makes people uncross after they hit the holds. Staying crossed over makes the hands awkward. Also, this section feels empty, like the opening.
You should uncross the hold, and use the same rhythm the SX chart does.
This chart looks like a medium-hard 9 in the editor, it might feel like a 10 when I pad it, but I doubt it.
Bounce Bounce Bounce SH:
Hey radies!
m9: Semi-ambiguous step at the beginning of measure. Because some artists step such that hitting the down with left is the intended step, that's the reflexive thing to do when sightreading this part. I'd turn the firt down into a right.
Needs to follow vocals more.
m36-37: Put in the rolls that doubles has here, but only use one roll.
m41: Put another roll here.
m38-43 has lots of interesting sounds that could be brought out better with rolls.
I'd like to see a challenge chart that follows the vocals more closely and accents more things with rolls.
Bounce Bounce Bounce DH:
m7: Misleading step after jump midmeasure. Up is closer to the right foot, but that makes the next two measures awkward.
m36-37: This would be better as a single roll.
m39: Why the jump hand 1 16th before the step? I can see how the hand fits the vocals, but the step after it is on the main beat, which seems a bit odd after following the vocals.
m40: I dislike hands like this on principle. There's nothing to tell the player they're supposed to get down. Fortunately, you made it easily bracketable, which makes me think you intended it to be bracketed.
Following the vocals more made it more fun, but I still think it needs to be closer yet.
DM Star SX:
Description: (Blank)
Put your name there. I like to be able to open a file and see the step artist's name, instead of having to remember or look it up.
m12: Ambiguous step after jump. Semi-averted by the steps before the jump predisposing the player in the correct direction.
m31: Misleading step, beginning of measure.
m41-48: Okay, the 8th streams start and end on the lines of the lyrics, but they don't really bring the music out. I think following the lyrics closer with a few 16ths would make it more fun.
m60: Put a jump on the last 8th of the measure.
m68: Spin. Looks like you planned it.
Overall, this looks like a mid-hard 8, not a 9. It needs more 16ths on some of the lyrics and more gallops in other places to bring it up to a 9.
Hyper Gride SH:
Description: (blank)
Put your name here.
m14-15: Use 16th triples here the way you did in m9-12. Since you have a 16th stepjump later on, you should give fair warning that it's going to be a hard 9.
m17: Ambiguous step end of measure.
m42: Ambiguous step end of measure.
I'm in Love Again SH:
Description: (blank)
Put your name here.
m15: I hope you intended that hand to be bracketed, because that's what everybody is going to do.
m16-23: This straight 8th stream does nothing to bring out the vocals.
m24-31: Same here, but at least this time you put holds for the piping sound.
m32-37: Again. Also, this time, the melody does something in m35 and m36.
m38-39: Finally, the vocals are achnowledged, and the rhythmically more interesting 16ths are ignored.
m41-54: Same problem as m16-37, but this time you threw in some random 16th triples. At least the holds follow something.
m48: More ignored interesting 16ths.
m55: More ignored 16ths, but I gues it's a break before the streams.
m59: Doublestep.
m61: Another doublestep.
m62: Another.
m63: And another. Why did you decide to make all these streams face the same way, and start with a doublestep? That makes it less interesting to play.
Overall, it looks like you ran out of time and decided to fill over half the song with 8th stream rather than the more interesting (but more sparse) rhythm of the vocals.
Prime Light SX:
Description: (blank)
Put your name here.
Go fix the offset so the steps actually line up with the music the way you intend. Right now, it looks like you're a couple beats off, but even when I tried shifting it by 1-2 beats it still didn't make sense.
After you fix that, fix the doublesteps in the second half of the song.
Principle SX:
I hate Des-ROW.
m65-68: I really don't see why you put mines here.
You should try to do the drums justice and follow them. Sure, it'd end up a 12, but it'd bring out the music better.
Sakeura Reflection SH:
Description: (blank)
Put your name here.
Given how many spins are in this chart, I'm not going to bother listing doublesteps and such.
Slang DH:
Description (blank)
put your name here.
No doublesteps.
Smell Like This SH:
Description: Copied from Copied f
Nice to meet you, Copied from Copied f
m1-4: Spins.
m32-30: Should have hold notes here.
I like the way you moved on to each new instrument as it came in, not staying on any long enough to lose variety.
Wuv U SH:
Description: (blann)
Put your name here.
m35: Doublestep midmeasuere, and end of measuere.
m37: Should have a 16th triple midmeasure, you know where.
m41: Doublestep midmeasure.
m44: I don't like the way this stop covers notes that could have been stepped. But that's the music's fault.
m57: Doublestep end of measuere.
As always, your rhythm choice is practically exactly what I want. This chart has far fewer doublesteps than your week 1 chart. In fact, all the ones after week 1 have far fewer doublesteps. What caused the sudden change in style?
The note about putting your name in the description field is something I should have pointed out from the start, but it slipped my mind. Sorry.

"ya did good, kiddo" |
Coursework deadlines lead me to not have enough sleep. This is not going to be fun for anyone.
Bounce Bounce Bounce - Nice song, good steps, but booy is it long. I don't think the song has any business being that long.
Still, it works, the steps flow nicely, and there's that really nice halfturn crossover near the end that I enjoy.
Prime Light - AWESOME song. However:
It felt like over 1/3 of the steps were not actually set to the music. Majorly offputting. Also, a really obvious spin I couldn't be bothered to do, at an I guess fairly appropriate time - didn't mean it was fun.
Bounce Bounce Bounce is victorious.
Hyper Gride - I think actual DDR games need more songs like this for bridging the gap between 9 footer and "boss song", based on the choice of difficulty alone. As with the previous chart, Beautiful Girl, the chart does a good job of calming down to allow the player time to breathe at the right moments. However, unlike Beautiful girl, there is much less stored-position doublestepping
A change for the better.
Slang - I like the SONG a lot better than Hyper Gride. And I found it even weirder that I hadn't heard this song before (?)
As with a lot of my charts, it felt kind of overly simplistic in places, but I guess that's to be expected of an 8. I just tend to find harder things more fun. Up to a point of course.
Hyper Gride is victorious.
-
Wuv U - Hahaha it's Smooooch all over again. Nice steps Pandy
Albida - Been wanting to step this for a while. The 10 is pretty much exactly what I would have done.
Does this make it a good chart? Hell no
In my opinion this might be an 11, at least by Mungyodance's "ITG" ratings.
That hold section with the doublesteps is a stroke of genio-what 24th run
Every moment of this file was some kind of new challenge hahaha. I found that quite fun.
I'm In Love Again - I didn't like the song :V
Entertaining stream but it wasn't as mind bendingly original as Albida. Still very well put together steps though.
Winnar: Albida
Sakura reflection - Either I can't focus and this chart is full of genius crossover that takes a while to complete, or it's full of crossover that doesn't complete. Either way, I liked your other simfiles better, patternwise, though they were offsync }:
Smell like this It's a nice song with fair and decent steps
Is there supposed to be a winner out of these guys? No one's talking about them and they made some quality files ):
Soooo sleepy. gpoy

Albida is a 10. No, it is not too hard for a 10. The 16th streams are shorter than Monst3rjoe's Mne Uzhe file, which is 190 BPM, and a 10. The 24ths don't really add to the difficulty because they're short enough to not fail from them even if you hit them as 16ths or 12ths.
Ky, I did that hold part crossed over because that's how I prefer to do hands for some reason. You could always double-step and do the hands non-crossed over.

For my final simfile, I intend to make something exceptionally stupid.
Again, if you don't like hard files, don't play the challenge, they're entirely different charts. (And how!)
Expect the unexpected.
There will be two versions, a StepMania 3.9/4/SSC version, and an OpenITG/ITG2/Stepmania 3.95 version.
The ITG version will be hilarious. The 3.9 version will be a starightforward normal chart.
Don't complain about the speed changes if playing the 3.9 version, because this isn't made for you.

Ha, Mawaru 3 has been and gone I just never released it.
It's not a Mawaru, but it is something rather special, from a project I'm working on with a couple of other people.
For DDR:UK.

You should make a quote block of everyone's reactions to that simfile, because holy fuck, that's the last thing I would have ever imagined.

I'm too busy with other things to spend any time finding and syncing a song.
But if someone will find and sync a song for me, I'll consider stepping something for this week.

...Challenge accepted :D
I've been meaning to write up a response to your review anyway. Until then, I'll just say that any doublesteps in my charts are intentional. I only dislike doublesteps when they hurt my PA, and a measure rest (about the only time I use them) is more than enough time to react.

I have my song out...

[UK HARDCORE] Drop Zone / Darren Styles
BPM - 170
- 1
- 3
- 5
- 7
INFO:
My final song is Drop Zone by Darren Styles. This is a very high uplifting hardcore track. Fans of UK Hardcore will love this one. I really loved how the steps turned out. A fun but not too easy 7 footer (around a 10 on the X system). I thought with it's high energy, would be the prefect song to close out with. This was a great tournament minus a few mess ups here and there, but they will get better with time. I would also wish everyone to join the 2011 Summer Contest when it rolls around in the next few weeks. Thanks for everyone who took part in the tournament and would look forward to seeing future simfiles from everyone.
With much thanks, Pandy.

[UK HARDCORE] Drop Zone / Darren Styles

Still working on my three sims. I haven't had much time this week to do anything but homework, but the files are finally beginning to take shape.

A thought just occurred to me that needs clarification:
Are the 2 finalists the only ones submitting multiple simfiles this week or are the others allowed to do so to?
I'm curious because I have a simfile I finished yesterday and would like to include in this tournament, but if that's not allowed I'm fine with it.
