Well the theme in general looks a LOT better then X, still going to take some getting used to the background and album banners over the classic music wheel style (oddly enough it reminds me a little of 4thMix/Konamix/Party Edition in a sense).
Hate to annoy everyone but one small gripe I have is that since the change to worldwide releases and the loss of Dancemania the game doesn't feel as "suitable" for the European audience. I mean, when I compare Dancing Stage SuperNOVA AC to DDR X AC I can't help but feel that it must be quite scary for casual players to jump into a game with so few songs they recognise.
I hate to sound mean, but I almost think that it would be worth sorting the licences by English artists and covers first and then by the non-English ones second for the European release. I think that it's good that the game mixes up all these different songs from all over the world to expand peoples knowledge of music but I also think that it could be scary for new and casual players.
Also Ice Ice Baby is still an awful song, which can't they include a version of Under Pressure instead?
OK, I'll stop complaining now. Carry on.

I can see DDR (the song) and DDR 1st mix (folder) getting mixed up
I see I wasn't the only one who thought this. They should really do something to make the one for the song stand out. Adding the artist could easily solve the problem.@Xavious: Yeah you're right with the song selection. Even comparing Extreme to SuperNOVA there is a bit of a jump. I once went to play on SuperNOVA and I found out all the songs that I felt like playing weren't there 'cause their last appearance was on Extreme.
At least it's good to see X2 is reviving a few of the older songs.

@Xavious, the HAPPY MODE isn't that bad in that respect. There are lots of licenses to choose there.
@KKiONI, how often do you think this will happen? You can't see the DDR 1stMIX folder when you're over the actual song anyway.

the loss of Dancemania
Between the X-Specials and the second round of revivals in X2 there's quite a bit of old Dancemania in this game.

They put a lot of Eurodance in this game too... It's almost as if the Super Eurobeat label is about to become the new Dancemania. And I would approve of this... Or am I profiling, thinking that all Europeans like Euro music?

The general public in the UK wouldn't know what Eurobeat is if you mentioned the genre to them. They would much prefer licenses such as Everytime We Touch, Feel Good Inc., etc.

At the beginning of October. Well, there may be more panels for the Mekurumeku dance party event but those have no fixed dates, just that the overall event ends in early October.

also, who decided that unreal is as hard as max300? fire that guy.
Surprisingly, I find Unreal harder than MAX 300. Which goes to show it's easier for me to do 16th streams at 150BPM than it is for me to go step step jump step step jump step step jump at 180BPM.Post #4577 · Posted at 2010-09-06 02:23:51am 15.6 years ago

^ Al seems to understand what I'm getting at. These songs have recognition; at least 90% of DDR players (casual people and not fans) will know these songs and want to play them. You also have to remember that European mixes used to be different so people are used to the days of EuroMix and EuroMix2 with a nice selection of licences they know and recognise and less (or none) of the Japanese licences.
This is probably partly the reason why the DDR X machine in Skegness I played on saw so little play while I was there; people don't see it in the same light as classic Dancing Stage and possibly believe it to be a totally different or copycat game. The likes of EuroMix, EuroMix 2 and their relevant licences are what are familiar to them.
In the words of my friend playing DDR X: "I don't KNOW any of these songs!"

It's such a shame they used the less popular Western licenses for DDR X2:
Bonafied Lovin' / Chromeo
DAFT PUNK IS PLAYING AT MY HOUSE / LCD Soundsystem
ICE ICE BABY / VANILLA ICE (no video on X2)
Instead of per say:
Closer / Ne-Yo
Disturbia / Rihanna
Just Dance / Lady Gaga
All of which are more popular here in the UK, but I guess with this whole cost-cutting thing, they can't really afford them.

I'd rather have Bonafied Lovin' than Closer.
Same with Daft Punk Is Playing At My House and Disturbia.
Because if they were in, and it was released here, the public would play the same two fecking songs over and over again.
