Did anyone post the "best of DanceDanceRevolution" video yet...? Just found it today because somebody mentioned the Bemani fan site.

The list is um. Interesting. Doesn't feel like the songs really go together at all. 0_o Would've made more sense if they were all iconic or all boss songs.

There seemed to be some message about a fan site revival floating around in Japanese (haven't been there in what feels like years though), but I really don't know more than that. Would be nice if that could create a small sprig of optimism among Bemani fans, though. : D... Even if it is just Japan.

I believe it's largely other music games raising the stakes and Konami not doing enough to keep up.

The mid noughties saw the rise of other music games that gradually moved towards full-length, licensed tracks which was probably more appealing to the general public, not to mention that these games gradually featured more licensed songs, from 50, up to nearly 100 all on-disc, and also shifted towards DLC as a form of offering more songs regularly rather than the pre-constructed "one set of content per year" style system we were used to.

Then you have the real nail in the coffin: Just Dance. Sure Konami did try somewhat with the Hottest Party series, but they never seemed to capture the Wii audience, probably due to how dated DDR might have seemed by then, still requiring its own dedicated hardware in order to play. Just Dance could be played by anyone who simply owned a Wii and nothing else.

I think people had largely moved on by then (around 2010) and the series definitely didn't have its monopoly any longer; even with all the old copycat titles (e.g. Dance:UK), none of them used to be able to top DDR at the time, but Just Dance took over as the ubiquitous "dance game" DDR used to be.

Part of what made DDR so charming, by making the most of apparent limitations, ended up going against it, and Konami either didn't have the care or budget to maintain the series properly.

ok I have to admit, i guess dance partay now isnt as bad as i thought before. BUT, there is another song that if it is put into Yuniver hills, I will flip. That song is 'FREE' , the crappy remix of 'Freedom' - BeForU. Its in DDR 2010 and I absolutely despise that song. If it gets put in, I will personally take an ice bath, then camp outside in the snow for a night

It's actually from Furu-Furu Party, and they wouldn't dare add a remix of a BeForU song to 2014.

It's actually about the new design of the BEMANI Fan Site, the same page that you linked. The new design was introduced last Wednesday.

So many wishes/dreams...and so much talk about how the game is dying. (It's dead)

This thread is near useless and is serving only as a source to throw in that rage/disappointment of how many imaginary promises you thought the game would have accomplished at this moment in time are/were broken.

Just wait for something to happen...like Sirius CS.

That best of DDR video really shows how empty DDR is without Naoki. Also Sky Is The Limit just makes me miss Look To The Sky even more. Sad

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

DDR's popularity in Japan will never work if Konami puts any songs from commisioned western artists.... well, again not being racist
C'mon, Konami, bring us TOTTO to DDR..

Here's an idea: Konami should take those best and iconic songs and cross it over to DDR, and then call it an event.

Uh huh.

And what of other Rhyze artists like Hommarju, P*Light, or Camelia? What about popular Voltex artists like void, xi, or BlackY? What about any or all inclusion of any newer artist without having a core Bemani member attached to it?

And no. Khamen Break does not count. C'mon DDR. Show me somethin'

Eh, if I remember correctly when KONAMI announced that Extreme was the last installment of the game many people were actually sad because of it (this is also the reason ITG exists, to fill up the missing place). Then they got back with Supernova which had its ideas and concepts and the series kept going.

I'm going to say that DDR 14 was actually made for a filler instead of doing the same mistake back on Extreme. I'm sure when they'll get the ideas the series will revive once again, it's just about time.

My informations can be wrong but that's what I think it's going to happen.
Those under me are my serveants who will fulfill my desires until the end of time
They just don't know about it yet :v

This is a common misconception. The DDR Staff planned to go on hiatus for a few years with Arcade releases.

"We're Starting Over!" Doesn't mean THE END.

.

I think the misconception is that the people working on the series at the time announced that DDR Extreme would be their final work, and that they would be graduating to various other game series. For a while, the game's tagline was "DDR Generation Next", but that was changed to "We are starting over!" shortly before Naoki announced that the theme of the game would be 'graduation'.

The truth in this is that the staff did indeed complete DDR Extreme and then move onto other projects. Naoki and U1 obviously wrote poignant songs to symbolise this, and Konami placed the staff members on other projects.

This doesn't mean the DDR series ended, or was ever planned to end. Konami had a backlog of previous material, and put out 5 DDR games that didn't involve (or need to involve) the people who had worked on the arcade series. Two of them were Wii Fit style games that tried to build a whole exercise game around the DDR controller, and 3 of them were compilations of songs from previous games, songs that been produced years in advance (and used first in american releases), and songs that had been produced and then left unused. Several years later, SuperNOVA happened, and then Hottest Party happened, and those both re-invented the DDR series in some way, and re-united many of the staff members, who had worked on other games in the interim.

So the plan wasn't to end the series, but for the people who had worked on it to say farewell, and move onto other projects for the foreseeable future. At the time, that made DDR Extreme the end of the arcade series, but there was never any sort of "This is it, DDR is dead!" announcement, it was just "Hey, the theme of this game is that we want to say goodbye to the fans".

Looks like they actually re-rated Dance Partay SP-Heavy as an 11, down from 12. Good change, wasn't quite a 12.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Also seems they changed both Standard charts by 1 difficulty level, to a 7 for SP and an 8 for DP.

Bump: There's a new set of recommended songs for today, but no unlock as of yet...

BUMP^2: This twitter post is making it seem that there just isn't an unlock this week. No song unlocked for them after clearing the recommended songs.

Yeah I agree, although the full version of that might have been worth calling a 12. The short version was far too simple. I think they should have also re-rated Diamond Night SP-Heavy to 11 when they released it back in 2013 (like they did for the double chart), since the two are about equally challenging.

Dance Partay SP-Standard was actually rated a 9 on DDR II, so I guess that makes it two levels lower? It was one of the first 9's I've played and I did think it was simpler than many 8's.
