Good, it was honestly bad for some players who went "Oh, Candy Star!" and choosing the X-Special instead of Basic.
Yes, you could read that it shows only one chart, but people will probably just notice the familiar jacket and not even look at anything else until after the fact.
I feel like you're assuming a couple of things here:Yes, you could read that it shows only one chart, but people will probably just notice the familiar jacket and not even look at anything else until after the fact.
1) that people who don't play with e-Amuse are casuals; I've heard of at least one location that doesn't apparently sell these passes, and you might run into that one day when the machine runs in local mode for whatever reason (server maintenance, poor connectivity, other internet-related failures).
2) people who care consciously pick Basic wouldn't notice a huge difficulty number next to any of the jackets, or that they're not sorting in the right version. It's honestly no worse than picking a new song for the first time without reading what it's rated and stuff.
I wouldn't say it's a good thing, although that's just my opinion.

It's the same scenario as with playing against someone who doesn't have unlocks. If it allowed only the person who could play said song to play while the other sits there doing nothing, that'd be terrible.
I agree with you there haha. The same way both players can make it to Extra Stage if the one with the pass has enough stars. I personally thought it was pretty cool.

tbh it's garbage because this means that people can't experience the perfection that is MY SUMMER LOVE (TOMMY'S SMILE MIX) without having to pay extra

Bad news: Players that no use e-Amusement Passes don't play CHALLENGE charts (including DDRMAX2's Challenge remixes, Groove Radar Specials and X-Specials)
Okay, now the question is, if you're an e-Amuse user and you're playing Versus with someone without an e-Amusement pass, can the other person play Challenge?P.D.: Sorry by my bad english.

Challenge being blocked off for non-eAMUSEMENT users is lame, even by Konami's usually greedy, slimy tactics. I don't know why anyone would defend having a fifth of a song's charts being blocked off because they didn't want to pay money for a card.

If I remember correctly, it's only the Challenge-only songs that are unable to be selected (which only means X-Specials, Groove Radar Specials, and MAX 2 remixes). All other challenge charts should still be accessible for non-EAmuse users.
Post #4326 · Posted at 2017-06-09 12:01:41am 8.2 years ago
It's still not cool either way. The MAX2 Challenge-only songs have been default songs for nearly 15 years ago, and the Groove Radar and X-Special ones for well over half a decade. Why block them off now?

They've shown they're willing to put random but irking things behind a paywall before, most notably to me the text behind arrows, so this isn't a shock to me. Just meant some programmer had to fill the game with one more line of code. Still kinda sucks.

If this was any other company, I'd be telling people to at least be thankful that this game somehow got localized.
...But this is Konmai we're talking about, so please carry on.

e-Amusement passes are like 5-10 dollars. It's not a bad investment. Plus you can save your scores and stuff.

I can understand some of the reasoning behind the update. I have played or watched casuals accidentally pick a level 18 X-Special and fail out their credit. I would like to think that this update is meant to reduce those kinds of newbie mistakes and not scare people away.

Both VocaloidFandom and I watched a woman accidentally pick PARANOiA(X-Special) and fail out her credit. I believe this is specifically aimed at preventing stuff like this from happening.Post #4333 · Posted at 2017-06-09 04:39:47am 8.2 years ago

this could easily have been resolved by paying attention to what you're selecting
this is not konami's fault, this is entirely the player's fault

If only you can unselect a song after you hit the green button accidentally, which does happen...

Un-selecting is something all BEMANI arcade games need; not just for songs, but for modes as well. I cannot tell you how upset and like a waste of money I felt after accidentally picking STEP UP mode in IIDX and EASY mode in Pop'n Music 20 Fantasia...In the future, I hope KONAMI decides to consider this.
Though it's most likely never going to happen

your average person who only enters one credit to the machine during their lifetime (which seems to be what still somehow makes up most of arcade income) has absolutely no idea where to "pay attention" to see if the song doesn't have easy chartthis is not konami's fault, this is entirely the player's fault

You overestimate the competence and attention span of the average consumer. I've seen people do the whole "return to the center panel" song and dance even when the tutorial told them not to, and leave after one song and wasting their two other songs. (Not in the same go, thankfully)
This makes everything make less sense if the average player doesn't understand how to change the sorting of the song list and find the

If the average consumer does not put in the minimal effort to pay attention and read onscreen directions that tell you what difficulties are available on each song, and how to change difficulty, then that's the fault of the consumer, not Konami. Its not bad design if this happens, everything is laid out so that the player knows how to navigate the song wheel and change difficulties from a very basic standpoint.
I have no problem with people selecting the
only songs by accident, because you had all the information before you that said it was
only and you ignored it. Use that brain.

Considering I more or less contradicted myself earlier, I agree with that. I think I'm just cynical when it comes to people.

Besides, most new players stay in the pop music folder, and the people who kinda know what they're doing know what difficulty level they're comfortable with
