To me, Tohoku EVOLVED is the MAX. (period) of the modern era. Like MAX. (period) did at the time, Tohoku EVOLVED has some elements that we've never seen in DDR charts. Both have uber-fast sections that have to be read, for instance, and both were remixed by Yuichi Asami using similar aliases (2MB for MAX. (period) and 2.1MB Underground for Tohoku EVOLVED). And both are tributes--MAX. (period) for DDR and Tohoku EVOLVED for earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. That's not to mention the extreme difficulty of both songs.

Not to mention that there's no plans to bring either of them to western audiences.

How max combo can be 626 if this video shows that someone failed with 646 combos?

The icon next to the jacket in the results screen is your answer.

I think it's been confirmed Tohoku EVOLVED does have differing versions, chart wise. Check these two images:

The last jump?

Dafuq!? They're just torturing players... when you think the jump is UP+LEFT while actually it's UP+RIGHT... then you miss that jump.
Imagine how hurtful is that.
So we have to react for the last step... not memorize.

Or just do a jump+knee-plant to hit the left-up-right arrows together

But really, the double chart was passed before the single chart?

THAT IS JUST EVIL.
Edit: And apparently both players in the photos were good enough to get that far with only 10-11 greats. Wow.

Yeah, I was about to say,
Does the last jump change randomly? I get the impression it scrolls by *really* fast and is randomized or is one of a few versions chosen randomly. It sounds like only the last jump is different.

It scrolls at 1020 bpm as calculated earlier. Fastest scrolling speed ever, and you have to read a random jump with a maximum of 0.47 seconds reaction time (less time than the opening of Pluto Relinquish). That's on 1x; on 1.5x the reaction time drops to 0.31 seconds, barely half that of PR's opening.
But are we sure that one of the players didn't have the chart on Left? It would produce the same result, although it's very unlikely.
Never mind, turning Left on would show an icon in the bottom of the screen, and there is no such icon.
If this is only the first of four new songs (as conjectured by the soundtrack), I can't imagine what the other three would be like. Maybe they're forced EES on Shuffle?
I hope a video comes up soon; I can't really imagine someone managing to take a photo of the last step with that much precision, making it look like a screenshot from a video.

That's just evil. I guess Tohoku EVOLVED is still an EVOLVED song at heart.
But, if that's the only change, I can't imagine they'd allow the different versions to be selectable when it's unlocked, so they'll probably just pick one? Also, yes, those three mystery OST spots are still completely unknown.

Post #4320 · Posted at 2012-06-06 12:02:16am 13 years ago
I think it's more likely that Tohoku Evolved's ending will continue to be random when it's fully unlocked.
roppongi Evolved had its four versions selectable because they needed separate record data since their charts were completely different and had a different number of steps. When it was locked to EES, you could tell which version you were playing if you memorized the world record for each version and looked at the data on the "Encore Extra Stage" intro screen. The gimmick is more like "Selecting this song really randomly picks one of four songs that happen to have the same beginning". In addition, the EES results screen revealed which version it was on the results screen.
Tohoku Evolved does not use separate record data and the charts are virtually identical with the same number of steps. Since it uses the same record data, you cannot tell which version it is using the intro screen. The gimmick is more like "This is a single song with the ending step randomized, not a set of different songs". The EES results screen does not reveal which version it was.
Ignore all the bottom statements if you don't want to read mindless random speculation:
Here's what I think the other three songs might be, assuming they have evil gimmicks and are locked to EES:
1. A song that, on EES, is forced on Shuffle. If this was ITG, I would have said Blender.
2. A multi-version chart with actually random stops. Each version looks the same on the screen but the stops are in different places.
3. A song that begins with a set of Shock Arrows 0.1 seconds after it starts, followed by a stream of now invisible arrows. At the end, there's a jump and a freeze arrow to sound like the song's over, but 5 seconds later, there's a final set of Shock Arrows at 9001 bpm. $800 boom anyone?
