Having only played up to X2, I think that's the peak of DDR with recent releases after Extreme. X3 had some cool stuff but X2 seemed packed full of new songs and some good crossovers from IIDX especially. It seems like we are getting mainly remixes, idol songs, and crossovers with 2014. I could be totally wrong though. The only song that I really wanna play seems to be Idola haha.

I'd like to count Supernova 2 as a peak after Extreme as well. It was the one game where it finally had new Konami Originals that were made by other BEMANI artists as well as some commision artists. They were also some good crossovers (although they aren't as good as X2's).

Call DJ YOSHITAKA for directing the next game.
As previously said, I want Yuichi Asami for 2015.

U1 can't be sound director, he's too busy with FTT.

It seems like that because that's what's actually happening.

I agree, I really liked SuperNOVA 2 and felt the songlist was actually pretty good. The whole planet/space theme they had going on was interesting too. Post #4247 · Posted at 2014-12-04 08:38:54pm 10.6 years ago

Never really liked SuperNova 2, but it wasn't nearly as godawful as X or as 2014 is turning out to be.
My favourite mix will always be EXTREME.

Normally, I would just go
at your choice.
But then I remember you live in Europe where for the longest time there was nothing but Euromix and Euromix 2...and importing mixes from Japan (bootleg or not) just didn't seem common there like it is elsewhere.

Remember SN2? When the PS2 Euro version was announced first...and came out last. A year late. With no arcade counterpart. With one new song by someone who wasn't good enough to get into Eurovision, and even more of a copy of the US version but with somehow fewer songs.
I recall it only being out for a week as well.

Did SN2 getting cancelled because of the hardware mercury issue thing also cause EU SN1 machines to become scarce?
At the very least I got to play Euromix 2 the other week...and had to look up foot panel codes.

Yep, the RoHS Act. Also they did say way back in 2007 that there was going to be an EU-exclusive mix with a and we all got really excited for a EuroMix 3...and then X happened.
Sadly as DDR is somehow waning even more, EM2s are becoming rarer and being replaced by Fusion crapocabs.
(Also no matter HOW many times I play EM2 I still have to text Rwr or Alan asking for the speed codes. The one to get to Note is easy, but speed up...every time. Every sodding time.)

SN2 and X3 are both post-Extreme peaks. X2 has pretty good content but its basically all there in X3 too. Throw in X3's doubles charts and revivals and sadly that is probably the last great mix of DDR we'll see.
If you look at 2013/2014 as one big mix (kind of how Konami does) - I GUESS there's probably 20% good and 80% filler. Too bad really, I hope that if this is the end, there's at least one more group of originals planned that's of the same quality that kicked off 2014 before the UMU event set the tone for what was to come.
All that said, I don't think DDR is as dead as people make it out to be. FTT is still seeing new content, even if it's crossovers and I'd argue that it's one of the few Bemani games lower on the totem pole at this point than DDR is. In this era of network pushed DLC, we've all seen its pretty trivial for Konami to crap out some "new" content every so often, it's not like they're spending money on a new game engine or new hardware now, so I think DDR will be around for another year, at least...even if its dying a slow painful death.

but FTT content is literally stealing DDR's, down to the stepcharts lol
all i remember U1 did for FTT was Awaodori and Adrenaline (this should be crossed over). sei-mu and Akhuta was doing original stuff too for FTT but now they all stopped so... FTT is kinda dead.
anyway i hope TAG would just stop for a moment and realize how many songs he made for other games compared to DDR in this year.

Yeah, FTT is mostly DDR music anyway. Let's get dj TAKA back on DDR, it's looking like his presence as co-sound director on X2 made a huge impact, even though he only made one original song for that game.

Man X3 was so damn good. How did it all go to shit after that? The game had a full hd version of 2nd mix ffs. I was hoping they'd do that for everything and slowly revive all the licenses, but nah, it just died. Don't get me wrong 2013 on its own is still pretty great, but its still a sign that DDR is all but done at this point.

dj TAKA did an original on X2? did you mean Decade? or am i missing something?
but i believe he was responsible for the amount of IIDX crossovers and the RDA system
(also he ended up doing TRIP MACHINE EVOLUTION anyway)

Being a sound producer and actually making music for the game don't need to be related, Hiroshi Takeyasu literally base done one song for a DDR mix (sort of) and Max 2 and Extreme were great.
