If this isn't cheesing, then I don't know what counts as cheesing. Who was the funny guy that submitted Jordan in 128kbps? This song is widely available in high quality thanks to being in Guitar Hero songlist. But seriously, this song is just one long guitar solo. It's not meant for dancing games. There is no way to make from this an interesting file - thus it screams just to use veto or drop from round.

I thought that this contest was supposed to have songs that are simmable and fun to work with. If we are going to be mean I'm just gonna trash backup pile with songs like this, this or this. Or I will just throw simfile skeletons from some Guitar Hero converts or keyboard pack. So much fun.

I try to select songs with easy to hear beats, from various genres and just overall enjoyable to listen (really sad that my round B submission didn't get steps). I kinda expected same from others - I mean it first year I see such awful song skeleton submissions (and I'm not talking here about only my experience, but about overall usage of veto in early rounds!).

scarz, vincentw, what do you consider as cheesing an entry?

Just my personal opinion, but I'd say that there have been plenty other, way more boring/unsteppable submissions before this. Sure, it's not exactly dance music, but I´d prefer a long guitar solo over something that's just 8ths through the whole song.

Edit: actually listened to the file, and while my earlier point still stands, the audio quality is poor at best and the cut is really, really lazy. Tbh it sounds like the submitter just cut a minute from the start and ending. A bit hard to explain, but give it a listen, you'll hear what I mean. While I don't think this song qualifies as cheesing at all in terms of song selection, the cut and audio quality for this should be considered way too sloppy to be accepted.

Having a weird problem with what I was assigned. When I play the song from measure 0 where it begins, the sync is fine but playing it from other measures throws it off. May someone download the file and let me know if the same thing happens or if there's a way to fix it?

That's happened to me before. It's really annoying. I've been told that it's because of the type of music file. I think the problem came to me when I used certain MP3 files. I tend to stay away from MP3s to avoid that problem .OGG files tend to be okay for me.

I think converting it to OGG will help to resolve that issue.

I'm listening to my file and I'm realizing that there are a couple of 48th trills at 128 BPM. That's something you don't hear everyday. Now the decision is whether or not to implement them...

Before working on my file (and I halved the BPM because I'm lame), I'm running through all 18 files. I can't wait to see what's done with all of them.

Anyway, on the topic of cheesing submissions, I suspect Imaginary was submitted just to steal a veto. The drums are just flat as hell and the first half is completely quiet.

I mean, I COULD have finished it, but I wanted my file to be something more fun.

It's kinda too bad I veto'd it, though, but I didn't want to step around 429 measures in total (the 3 required difficulties x 143). I COULD have halved the BPM, though, but I'm happy with how I did Seedy Try.

Kinda funny how Lisek vetoed my ROUND A submission and got one of my backup submissions instead.

Yeah but .ogg's come in different qualities, too (which I admittedly derped about and had Audacity set to poop out low-quality .ogg's, oops). Just switching to .ogg doesn't mean instant quality music files.



*shrugs* Maybe whoever submitted it honestly thought it was steppable? I submit music I think is steppable (actually what I submit is usually something I've been planning to step myself at some point) but people have different opinions on what's good for stepping and what isn't.

...Though I did take a listen to Imaginary and I agree it'd probably be a pretty boring file. That tends to happen with hardstyle.

I visualize "How will others handle my file?" when submitting songs. I sent a good one for round 3, if someone vetoes it I will be shocked.

@Gameoson- Yeah, that's what I did... How can I get a higher quality .ogg? I didn't submit a file for next week, so there's still time to fix that.
Also, a general question on ratings! If I'm stepping a boss-level chart that is borderline between 16 and 17 on the X-scale, and I give it a 16, what is preferred on the classic scale- 11 or 12? (This one went by REALLY fast somehow. I should be finished by tomorrow if all goes well.)

Apparently I'm not better than that. Ouch. Sorry, I just have been busy with school stuff. For Round A I just cut a song quickly and tapped for BPM, must not have noticed it wasn't a whole number. I'm making sure to take more time for my next submissions. Sorry.

As long as you have a higher quality .mp3 you should be able to stick to high quality when you convert to .ogg. In Audacity, click File, Export Audio, and in the window that pops up you should see a button labeled "Options...", click that and set the quality to 10. Then just save your .ogg to wherever it is you're saving it. I don't know about other programs but I would assume there's an option to set .ogg quality in other programs as well. Just remember as said before, just because you save a 128kbs file in a "high quality format" doesn't magically make it high quality.

If you're rating the file a 16 on the X-Scale, it should probably be an 11 on the ITG scale.

This isn't how bitrates work, unless you're saying that most songs are only available on 128. Which isn't true. If you know where to look, you can find good quality audio files.

I would offer to help people find good quality audio, but then it would kinda kill the mystery behind who submitted what.
