No i perfectly understand its just i read the theme was video games in general, i went to work, i came home , i started writing my file, went sleep, woke up, 2 pages had been added to the thread, got about 60% in to my files, got told by taronuke they werent allowed, had to comb through all the posts to find out why. It annoyed me a lot and now ive got no inspiration to step anything for this week especially after i put a lot of effort into these, had everything been put on the first page as and when it got updated, i would have noticed straight away because thats the sort of place i check for updates on posts like this.

Video game music in general just doesn't inspire me for stepfiling unless its already in a rhythm game or is a license i quite like, sort of like Weekend which was just uploaded, i had NO IDEA that was on GTA 4 but is exactly the sort of thing i'd step.

Also i know its a given that ddr stuff cant be stepped but if you had someone who had never been in a simfile contest before turn up they might not know or think about it.

I'll just sit and wait for next weeks theme, im not being negative about it im just annoyed that i missed a 6 word post that meant my files were null and void because it was buried admist a load of uploads and reviews.

Strangely enough, though I personally haven't published even one simfile, let alone ever being in a simfile contest, I find this week completely OK. There's a lot of stuff out there to step; if you need inspiration, I have a few songs that I didn't step that I could send to you.

Besides, didn't Tyma or someone say a few pages back "If you can think of a reason for it, it's okay"? Chewi and I both uploaded licensed tracks, and they weren't deleted from the category. Yet. If it appears in a non-music-based video game, you can step it, end of story.

How did I not think of this!?

Same reason I didn't initially think to do Paper Engine.

Though if I were to do an F-Zero song I probably wouldve stepped Dizzy (Phantom Road) or Zen (Aeropolis)

I'm co-admin by virtue of winning the last simfile tournament, which means I can choose half of the contest's themes. (Week 1, 3, 5, 7, and so on). I've intentionally chosen themes which don't pigeonhole you into a specific genre, and encourage people to think outside the box, because I believe people should be able to step the kind songs that they enjoy, rather than compromise, and have to choose songs from a list. That's why last week I said "If you can think of a reason it's ok. Then it'll be ok!".

A lot of people obviously don't agree with that, which is fine, so in a way, it's good that we have 2 people selecting themes. I'm a bit dissapointed that Pandy changed the theme from simply "Video Games" (which I thought was very interesting) to something so restrictive (although I don't think anyone would have stepped IIDX songs anyway. I was going to step a Mindless Self Indulgence song about retro games), but there are still games like GTA, Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, Fifa etc. that have big soundtracks full of danceable music. The only things that are really ruled out now are Bemani games, Rock Band and Singstar.

If a song appears in a music game, but also appears in another videogame (like Rotterdam Nation or The Weekend), then it's fine.

Just a note. Somehow my simfile got deleted for Own Little World. Im going to re-upload them again so if they go down Im not sure whats going on.

End of the day all i was saying is can we have the weeks theme put up on the front page and if it gets changed just make it clearer. I dont get why so many people are saying "Theres tons of songs out there you can step still dont complain ill tell you what to step" when what im saying is i myself cant think of anything i WANT to step, i could name literally hundreds of songs i could step , doesnt mean i like them enough to want to *is INCREDIBLY picky about what he steps* so im just gonna wait till next weeks theme
