Although for the amount of points that changes by to be so large people talk about it, said member would have to have ratings in the 500s+. And I can't think of an inactive one of those.

Yep, the rating system is both a boon and "insert negative noun here."

And I've seen more people get banned here in such a short while, simply by asking where to download simfiles, asking for categories in the wrong thread, and even by getting an invite on facebook from that person.

Also, why is lbs (or I think Lukeyboysonic) unbanned? Do bans expire?

I think al2k4 may set bans to end at a certain time if the user didn't do a lot that was bad.
Say the person had some bad spelling or grammar. Sometimes, that's not their fault, because English isn't their main language.

I think that when people take off points just because someone makes a small mistake isn't necessary.

Okay. That puts things in a much lighter direction, since the truly bad ones remain banned (aside from Supernova 2, who was rude and misunderstood).

This. We get a lot of instances of someone who is clearly ESL writing a somewhat confusing first post and getting downrated harshly for it, which is just silly. It's only one or two people doing this, but it can be really discouraging to new members for their first posts to have them in the negatives already. Reserve judgement for a couple posts, at the very least. People have learned and improved as well, give some time for them to adjust their actions.

is there a way for members to be stuck on 0 or have a "neutral" rating until they've made 10 posts or so?
basically, disabling members with <10 posts to be rated?
