depends on the difficulty of the file. paying attention to all the patterns, making sure they work and flow right. making sure it works for that difficulty. it could take a few hours or a few days. my simfile has taken me a few days to complete (keep in mind that i haven't started working on it until a few days ago WHOOPS and i also have to go to work so i can only spend so much time on working on the file in a day).Post #393 · Posted at 2016-04-23 06:30:50pm 9.1 years ago

@JohnathanTeas It varies by person, and by song. The more gimmicky or difficult, the longer it takes. Oftentimes the early bird posters start working on their files in advance (like Gameoson, or Spork!) or make easier charts (like chewi).

Usually takes me a total (I split up the work over days sometimes) of around two or three hours for a

To answer JonathanTeas' question, this file has technically been in the making since February of 2015. The first drafts of the and the charts were created then, and those probably took about an hour and a half. I would make tweaks every now and again in hopes of submitting it earlier to other competitions, but kept deciding to save it for another occasion. Finally, I chose to step it this week, and despite already having a base to work with for the harder difficulties, I probably spent a good 8-10 hours on this file this week alone. It's all about how easily quality files come to you, and generally they don't come easy for me. Most of the time I spent on this was nitpicking certain step patterns and rhythms via multiple play-throughs of the song. You can actually see a few different drafts of the Challenge file in the .SM I included in the description of the file.
All that being said, I'm very happy with how this turned out. I have a feeling I know what criticisms people might have, especially of the file, but regardless, I'm happy with what I'm putting on the table. The song in incredible, the video is phenomenal, and Lilit is literally my mom, so I hope everyone at least enjoys those aspects of the file. Best of luck DDRDAIKENKAI and the other competitors!
(also why lilit has yet to represent armenia in eurovision i will never know)

Usually it takes me around 30 minutes to an hour to put together a first draft of the chart (depending on how complex it is), and then about another 20 minutes of playtesting and tweaking the chart. through usually take less and less time as I move on to the lower difficulties, but that's not because I'm putting in less effort. I think about how the next difficulty down is going to look as I'm stepping the higher difficulties, so by the time I finish I have a good idea of what will look like, and then after that I have a good idea of what is going to look like, and so on and so forth. By the time I'm down to and I've heard the song so many times that I can dump a few arrows down in less than 10 minutes and be pretty satisfied with the result.Before I release anything, I spend another 10 minutes replaying all five difficulties, and if I notice anything I don't like I go back and fix it, play it again,

Same as Gameoson, but I like to test it a couple of days (2-3) after it is done before submitting it to see if I still feel the same way I do with the simfile as I had before when making it.
The hardest part for me is finding a song to sim. Variety is good.
Sometimes the song is really cool, but won't be fun to play as a simfile on pad. Often times, I see the song catered more for iidx, but I don't know how to make iidx/bms files.

I would say anywhere from an hour to 3 hours depending on how in depth the chart is and how much of a pain the ass making graphics for them ends up being. I've been making simfiles for 10+ years, so making them is second nature at this point. If someone is new at making simfiles, then 5+ hours might be about right if they don't know how edit mode fully works.

Around 6-8 hours if syncing is a pain.
