I have no specific songs on my mind right now, but I liked those old days where songs from Basement Jaxx, Kylie and others replaced some of the american licenses (like Supernova), but knowing the situation today (SN2).

I LIKE THE COVER ART.
There, I said it. For once it actually looks, y'know, decent. And I like the licence list.

This. The licenses in SN1 EU were pretty awesome, we need more Chemical Brothers, t.A.t.U, Basement Jaxx, etc.Post #385 · Posted at 2010-02-20 02:01:46am 15.2 years ago

Oh, wait!

How do you turn off the dance battles in Free Play? I just want to play all of the songs. And I can only do up to hard 8s-easy 9s, too.

Erm, there are no Dance Battles in Free Play, that's in Tournament Mode.

Most likely you didn't unlock everything, so the boss songs may pop up every three or four songs or so.

I'm late to the party and just recently started playing Hottest Party 2 (US). I like it, except for the hand motions. They just don't work. Half the time they don't register at all, or perhaps they are registering late or early. I've tried shaking in different ways and nothing makes it consistent. Pretty annoyingly frustrating. So obviously I turned them off, but I like the idea of the hand motions, especially from an exercise standpoint. Do they work any better in HP3 or is it the same? They need to add dual-wii-motion-plus-remote support. That would work great, I would think. Of course then you'd be limited to 2 players, but that's OK by me. I also ended up turning off the gameplay gimmicks. They are OK, but I'd rather just play without them. Pared down to the basics the game is pretty solid, and I especially like that the story mode, whatever it's called, allows you to set a difficulty so you don't start out insanely boring like it's been in past games. It's about time they did that. Makes playing the mode a lot of fun.
I'm playing with an Ignition 3.0 pad and a PS2 to Gamecube adapter that worked well for me in DDR Mario Mix, and is working just as well here. Pretty happy with it.

I find that the most consistent way to hit hand markers is to flick your wrist down hard, like you're throwing something at the floor. I also *think* that it detects the motion at the start of the flick, not the end. You might have to flick a little later than normal to compensate for that.
If you're always playing with hands and gimmicks off, just be warned that a good 70% or so of the songs require hand markers on to get an AAA. For these songs, if you get all Perfects and hands are off, you'll still get an AA, and you won't have the maximum score.
This is because two hand markers at the same time are counted as separate notes, so turning hands off replaces that with a jump, counted as a single note. You've effectively removed a note, so you can't get max score.
Songs that lack two hands at the same time do not require hands on to AAA.
(A few songs also require hands AND gimmicks to AAA.)
---
Hands no longer exist in standard Free Play mode for Hottest Party 3, sadly. It's one of the only things that I dislike about HP3. (Gimmicks are still there, and around 15% of the songs require Gimmicks on to AAA.)
There's two special modes for hands - Balance Board Mode and Hypermove Mode. BB Mode has some great charts I've heard, but I don't have a Balance Board to check it out. On the other hand, Hypermode Mode kind of stinks since all of its charts, even the hardest ones, are extremely easy.

The latest issue of Official Nintendo Magazine UK reviews DDR HP3 in its Round-up section. It pretty much fills the very small amount of page it's given without any real care put in, and a score arbitrarily thrown at it. In case you were wondering, 62%. They didn't say why (the only thing that comes to mind was something about if you're playing with the balance board with other players, the others have to use remotes only or something).
Also on that same page and roughly the same size was the Wii version of GH: Van Halen. It got 47%. Personally I see this as a one-up for Konami.

wow, a gaming magazine not sucking GH dick?
one-up indeed.
i never expect scores above 60-70% for DDR so DDR didn't do too badly either i guess

They gave the original DS:HP 86%. Though considering Just Dance is basically gaming cancer atm you can forgive them for going down a bit. (Edit: they gave Just Dance 50% wtf)
Actually I've never seen a review in a magazine for any DDR getting lower than 6/10 or 60%. Lowest I've seen is 6/10s for Fever and EuroMix PS1 by Official PS1 Magazine (EM was eventually re-adjusted to 8/10 at around the time Fever got reviewed in mid-late 2003).
