YES FRIDAY!!
I'm so glad my tests and quizzes are over with!
But I checked my grades on PowerSchool, and here's the screwed up thing:
My Spanish II (H) average was A: 90.46.
I got a 97/100 on the oral part of the oral presentation, but the average DROPPED to 90.16. No other grades were entered. Does that make sense?
Also, I got a 92 on an English thing!! Average is up to B+! HIGH HONORS!!

I actually can't understand how people can have problems with English. A branch manager of some restaurant (coffee shop is more accurate) always approaches me* if her formal letters had the right grammar in them when I was in the 2nd semester of my freshman college year.
*She's a long overdue student, stopping her studies for work. Her former classmates jokingly asked why she's still studying when they were all now focusing on their jobs. She was my classmate and the older sister I never had on my Literature class. She ended up getting pregnant during the midterm period, so she (or we) started eating a lot (we eat before class). I don't know where she is right now, at work, still at school or with her boyfriend (not the baby's dad) somewhere on Taiwan.

Wtf? My Spanish avg dropped from a 90.46 to a 90.16 when I got a new score of 97/100. It must have something to do with category weights. I can't think of anything else. Post #390 · Posted at 2009-03-01 11:02:42am 16.4 years ago

Returning to English, I don't know if I should be happy or boastful that I am extremely fluent in English. It's just that I expected native English speakers to be even better than me.
But Spanish is another story.

Everything that can possibly go wrong in the past few days has gone wrong. It's infuriating, as if I'm looking for a someone to talk about it to, they don't seem to care. My parents 'comfort' me by yelling "Everyone's not out to get you" at me. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they were wrong.

Actually, there are a lot of native English speakers who graduate high school without knowing how to properly conjugate verbs, what an adverb is, etc. Some people also make mistakes common among native speakers without realizing they're wrong. Even if they speak the language perfectly, they may know what's right, but not necessarily why. As a non-native English speaker, the way you are learning (learned?) it is in a way that does not leave you apt to make these mistakes. So really, you shouldn't be surprised that a lot of native English speakers aren't as good as you.

A few that stand out:
Mixing up "You're" and "your"
Mixing up "To", "two" and "too"
"Can't hardly wait": This is a double negative because hardly is a negative word.
"If I was...": You need past subjunctive in the if clause when referring to a hypothetical situation, so it's "If I were..."
"I seen" instead of "I have seen"
And, as previously mentioned, verb conjugations. I've read a paper that didn't even have the s on third-person singular verbs or -ed with past tense.
The educational system is flawed if people like that can graduate high school.
I may have double posted this since I got a "Cannot display" page the first time.
Good, I didn't. That is still really annoying, though. The page simply wouldn't load for me for a couple of minutes.

I didn't know about 'Can't Hardly Wait."
But then again, I have lost some of what learned during my High School Years. I forgot what an adverb or a conjunction is.
I don't know what is the Direct Object in a sentence is. I know if a sentence is wrong just because it doesn't sound right, but I can't point out exactly what is wrong. I sometimes am unsure of what I write even if it sounds okay when it's a little of.
As a treat here's another thing from me. Just posted a while ago, but I do have a say in what I reveal.

In my senior year, I was picked by my classmates to participate in some kind of contest. I had to memorize the soliloquy of hamlet and I have a little more than a month to memorize it. The problem was, I slacked off at first and a friend of mine form another section said that he already has it memorized. And I was not informed that we could do actions while we are reciting it.
So the end result is, a dull performance (really, all I did was raise my hands near the ending) and my mind went blank near the ending (I was able to remember it after repeating the past lines), so I had stage fright and that my crush is watching from the audience.
But the good thing is my classmates were not able to see my performance and that most of them don't know the reason I was escorted out of the audio visual room since we, the seniors (save for one section, the one where my crush is in) are watching "The Da Vinci Code" and I had to leave halfway through the movie because of said event.
