This is not a president giving a public address about a shooting. This is a father of two kids holding back emotion as he addresses the country about the deaths of 20 children. It was hard to watch live as Obama had to hold back tears during the speech, almost a surreal feeling that even our president can relate to the emotions of those grieving over this tragedy. For the kids that made it out alive, it'll be hard for them to bounce back from something like this, and it is possibly harder for the families who have to deal with the fact that they lost their child.

It is unfortunate that we have had to experience similar tragedies such as this one so often in the last year or so, and this one hits a bit harder given the age of the victims and the timing of it so close to the major winter holidays. I may not have kids of my own, but I have plenty of younger relatives, nieces and nephews, so this is a bit unnerving to me. Thoughts and prayers go out to those families who are grieving, and I hope that those families who have kids will hold them a little tighter. It is a damn shame how quickly life can be taken away, especially when it's children who had such a bright future ahead of them.
