After a bit of tiral and error, I finally got IIDX 7th Style working on MAME; problem is, I don't know how to configure the inputs (specifically, I don't know what the SW buttons do, so if anyone can "translate" into which button corresponds to what a button on the keyboard or the IIDX controller would be, I would be grateful!)

If I remember correctly, the key mapping is the same as in Lunatic Rave 2 (zsxdcfv). Also, how did you get rid of note drifting?Post #23 · Posted at 2019-11-13 07:44:40am 5.5 years ago
It's not; the default controls are all over the place; the left and right keys are your record scratches, for example. >>
UPDATE: I finally got the controls to work properly;
SW 1-7 is basically keys 1-7, so once I realized that, it was a lot easier to set it up. Anyways, gonna dust off my old IIDX controller, and hope I can get that working!

Default controls mostly are screwed up, so I always remap keys.Post #25 · Posted at 2019-11-13 08:41:50am 5.5 years ago
Just played the game a bit with my old US IIDX controller, and I was able to play it without much problem! The only problems I've had were the awful sync drifting it has, and I had to turn the sensitivity way down for the turntable to respond properly. Hopefully future versions of MAME will fix that problem!
At least I can still us the controller for Infinitas, if I choose to go down that route!
How do you activate ANOTHER charts, btw? This is all old tech, and before 11th style introduced a simple way to play those charts. >>

If I recall correctly, hold VEFX button while/after selecting song.Post #27 · Posted at 2019-12-05 02:14:27am 5.4 years ago

The SW buttons are the one work for respective keys.
1-7 is Player 1's 7 Key
8-14 is Player 2's 7 Key
Once after you complete bind it, enter test menu and proceed to I/O Test to try the buttons. One thing which you cannot do is rapid turntable scratch with only one key. You might have to bind another turntable scratch as well instead of the buttons

That's amazing! Now I need to go and find a rom and chd for BMIII The Final to test this out, once the next version of MAME releases!
I've wanted to play that for the longest time, because it's 5-key Beatmania with much better graphics and sound quality; doesn't this also have a foot pedal, as well? (Maybe I can use one of the E buttons on my Phoenixwan to emulate that) XD

Update for everyone; in case you haven't seen the youtube videos, the files for the Beatmania III ROMs/CHDs have been re-dumped as of MAME 229 to compensate for the preliminary development of the new FireBeat drivers, so the existing ones currently on the web will not work... At least, until said sites make new ones.
(I'd show a screencap of the error I got showing what parts of the files I'm missing, but I don't know if that would be a punishable offense or not. )

I lucked out and managed to find the updated romsets for BMIII (and BMIII The Final); So, only gripes I have would be the occasional stutter, and the effector not properly working. You can play the foot charts just fine, but it's super awkward on keyboard. XD
According to some youtube videos I've seen, floppy disk support does work, but I have no clue how to get that working. That, and I've seen someone make a "cheat" to bypass the recovery password screen when you first load up the roms, but wasn't included in this month's version of MAME.
Other than those very minor gripes, they are very playable! I'm probably gonna dust off my Phoenixwan and play with them some more in a while!

I'm glad that beatmania III and its respective installments are finally playable on MAME. Now we need to make the other games of the BEMANI Firebeat arcade board playable in MAME such as pop'n music 4-8 and KEYBOARDMANIA.

I don't know if someone already mentioned this or if anyone will care, but currently MAME can not only run DDRMAX to EXTREME (and Euromix 2), but also has full working sound for those games. (with some sync issues, but that's just how emulation goes...)
Only DDR 3rd to 5th mix still don't work as they throw a checksum error on startup.
(Sorry for bump)

I have literally all of them working. There’s a version of mame that has all of them plus you can adjust the sync in it. But having to install every single one of these games and how long they take to boot with how limited the song selections are, honestly you’re better off with Stepmania. Going through all of the effort to find all of them and the entire day spent just installing them because that’s a painfully slow process, it’s cool to have but I haven’t used it since the day I got them set up.Only DDR 3rd to 5th mix still don't work as they throw a checksum error on startup.

The worst games to get working on MAME? Pop N Music 4-8. It's a loooot of work to get just one game running because you're basically decompiling and recompiling the CHD files via the command prompt. The only saving grace is that you don't need to enter in the security codes every time you boot the game whenever a new version of MAME comes out, so that will save you a good bit of time, but you're still going to be waiting for the CHD stuff to be recalibrated.
And even then, you need to run the Arcade64 frontend to even play it because playing them on vanilla MAME is currently impossible.
