A switch that can be toggled to turn on or off the generation/use of .ssc files, over .sm files. Transferring simfiles between SM4 & SM5 can be a real pain sometimes because of .ssc files.
Solution: Stop using SM4.

With all due respect, not if I can help it. From my experiences, SM5 is too difficult for me to work with when editing simfiles, so I use SM4 for that.

However, with playing & testing the charts, I prefer to use SM5 for it's additional speed mods, and screen filters.

In short, I cannot not use both. So apparently, my switch idea isn't doable at all? Not even at least some consideration?
So, you're only editing in SM4, and you're having trouble with files that are only created by SM5's edit mode? That doesn't quite match up.
The same data (minus features that only exist in .ssc, like split timing) is saved to both the .sm and the .ssc file, so why is it a problem if both files are created?
Your problem doesn't make sense, and sounds more like a user error than a need for a feature that would actually be useful.

Doesn't this remove folders all together, though? Doesn't it just have all of the songs you placed in order, without the folders?

Your problem doesn't make sense, and sounds more like a user error than a need for a feature that would actually be useful.

Sometimes, when I would attempt to edit on SM5, it looks as if the game will sometimes ignore that an .sm file is even there, and acknowledges only the .ssc file. Therefore, any changes I made to the .ssc file will sometimes not be written to the .sm file, thus messing me up.

You could try deleting the .sm file before editing and then it'll create a new one once you save it

"jubeat is bae"
It may be a quite difficult feature to add, but maybe, when making a simfile, just having to indicate a classic video file to stepmania (instead of an audio file PLUS a video file) and he would use the video sound as the audio for the song and time both automatically (I'm having such a hard time finding my video offset manually ...)

And then you have created a simfile that doesn't work for people who cut out bg videos to save space. Unless you're making some gimmick simfile where the video is required for the player to know what arrows to hit, requiring the player to have the video is a bad choice.

When SM5 saves the .ssc file, it also saves the .sm file, with the exact same data (minus features that are only in .ssc). It's likely that you're doing something wrong and using split timing when you don't intend to.
When loading, it prefers the .ssc file.

I think it's SM5s preference for .ssc files when loading that messes me up. Sometimes, if I make a change to a simfile in SM5, it doesn't seem show up when I put the simfile back in SM4. And, when I make a side-by-side comparison between how the simfile shows in SM4 versus how it shows up in SM5, I essentially have two different versions of the same simfile.

Of course, this usually only happens once I have a simfile folder containing .sm, .sm.old, .ssc, and .ssc.old . Maybe that could be where things start going wrong?

Also, I tend to have a problem when migrating simfiles with warps between SM4 & SM5. For example, if I have a simfile on SM4 with a positive BPM warp, SM5 converts it into an actual warp, but then SM4 treats it as if no change is there once returned to SM4.

Have you updated your copy of SM5 recently, NuVirus? The last time this came up (here and more recently here) you indicated that you were using SM5 alpha 1.

Since that time, several more alphas were released, and several betas, too. If you need help upgrading your copy of SM5 for Mac OS X, my SM5 OS X upgrade tutorial from a year ago still applies.

It seems people are missing a key point of this thread's first post, so I'll quote part of that post here:

What features would you like to see in SM5?

Post the features you would like to see in SM5 and how much you're willing to pay for them. Email me at kyzentun at gmail dot com to make arrangements.

As you all know, StepMania is written by volunteers. As one of those volunteers, I personally am unemployed and thus have plenty of free time to spend on StepMania. But I'd also like to eat. So if you have a suggestion, I'm going to ignore it unless you can back it up with money.

This might be a tricky or damn near impossible feature to add, but would DDR X and up style select "crossfade" be possible?

I've mostly found this feature in the AC versions of X/X2 (No X3 -> here in Washington Sad ), there's a seamless transition between songs on the scrollwheel. Maybe as an optional feature?

A seamless transition tweening from one song to another song? If that is what you mean, I'm not sure how StepMania doesn't already do this...

In the video, the songs kind of fade into each other. That's what they want instead of the delay that there is now.

I've asked around, but couldn't find anything on whether it was possible to make avoided mines/Shock Arrows count towards the combo, like in the Arcade games.

AvoidMineIncrementsCombo= under [Gameplay] in metrics.ini already does this but it counts every mine so it adds 4 to the combo with DDR style shock arrows.

Is this stackable, or work in conjunction with "ComboIsPerRow"? (I think it's already in the DDR 2013 Theme)

As far as I know, changing ComboIsPerRow won't change it because it counts every single mine.
