IMO if you don't have a pair of "Proper ITG shoes" (tapers, minimus lifes, etc) play with socks. This especially applies to DDRX and newer cabs with that spaced out arrow design. It's really really hard to cheat jumps and crossovers with shoes on those things lol
I also disagree with the water suggestions. Many big passes for me were caffeine and sugar fueled. To those of you who only drink water, spend a few bucks on some caffeine pills and take them with your water and see how you like it.

Caffeine while playing DDR works for some people, I was just saying that it doesn't work for me personally. You're not going to know what sort of effect it'll have on you until you try it. Every time I tried drinking something caffeinated while I play, I would get pretty shaky and it wasn't uncommon for me to get nauseous.
The Nike's I have are called "Air Relentless 2". They're similar to Frees but not as expensive and they're pretty solid all around. Might not be 100% "proper ITG shoes" but they're good enough for me.

Considering that there is discussions about proper shoes for DDR/ITG/PIU talk going on, I might as well ask my question about my shoes. I own two pairs of shoes, one are Nike Air Flight basketball sneakers, however they have a flat sole to them. Also I own some DC's. Again, they are flat soled. Don't have a model for those because I got them off a clearance rack. The Nike Air Flight shoes have that air cushion in the heels. I don't have money for any other shoes so that is all I got.
I've never tried any Nike basketball shoes for DDR so I don't know. I've had mixed experiences with DC. Some of them work great (I had a pair of DC Rob Dyrdek's that worked especially well) but others, not so much. I have a pair of DC Radar's, but I hardly ever play DDR in them. They're just very clunky and heavy. Not exactly the qualities you should look for if you're looking for something to do streams in.

Distance running will improve your stamina. Run outside of your comfort zone because if you don't then you won't feel significant results if you're always running at a comfortable pace.
Check your footwork. Stepping on the inner edges of the panels works wonders for saving energy.

Nope. Back when I ran I was doing 6 miles for my short runs and 11 for my long runs. It made 0 improvement in my DDR stamina. The only thing that's helped, besides actually playing more DDR, has been hiking long distances (I'm talking 18 to 30 miles). The next day after a hike I have incredible stamina, and in fact, am able to AA 15s I could before.

What are your opinions on Merrell shoes? I have been using them since my mom bought one for me and they're starting to wear out.
I think they're slightly heavy (I used to wear above the knee jorts when I chose to stop wearing pants for DDR, and I kinda feel their weight on my feet) but these shoes have the best grip of any pairs I've ever worn. Has anyone else tried them?
Here's the website if you want to take a look at what they look like.

you want something flat, lightweight, and (IMO) little grip.

Here's a problem I face when playing DDR:
I have acid reflux, so I have burping issues when I play on higher difficulties (9 or 10 on classic scale). So I can't drink a ton of water at once or my stomach will become an erupting volcano.
And the harder and faster the song, the more often I burp and decreases my overall performance. Should I drink a few sips of water in between songs? Or should I drink a full glass of water say, a half-hour before starting to play?
I've also stopped drinking pop (soda) entirely for at least a month and switched to tea (which a lot more hydrating than soda, and contains antioxidants), but I still have coffee like normal. I also take a digestive enzyme (supplement) every now and then to reduce the effects of acid reflux. I'm trying not to turn to over-the-counter or prescription drugs, which may contain side effects that could be detrimental to my DDR performance (and health in general).
I know that hydration is critical to stamina and performance, and I want to know what the most efficient way to stay hydrated is, while controlling my levels of acid reflux.

my own tip for doing the candle 16ths (like in Posession
or I'm so Happy
)
focus your weight press on the FIRST 16th in every candle as in:
123, 1, 123, 123
make it as:
1(23), 1, 1(23), 1(23)
Quickly step the last 2 16ths (23) in every candle without putting up weight on these. This way won't drain up your stamina easily.

@tj28: possibly, it bears mentioning that these are, or can be used for, mountain hiking. I also notice that they are curved upwards a little more than the usual.

Here is a few ways to increase stamina:
1. Drink plenty of water. I think it is a GREAT idea to bring a bottle of water when you play. If you can't hydrate, you lose energy fast!
2. Practice by running for longer duration's. I helps you be able to play for longer.
that all I all right now. I'll post more later
Okay, i was tired and decided to sleep. The important thing is i still have more ideas to increase stamina:
1. Wear athletic clothes. It makes you look cool
but it doesn't make you hot after playing as often
2. DON'T eat anything before playing. I learned that... ...the hard way
. You will cramp.
3.Don't do a song with high stamina unless you feel like you built enough of it. Again, learned it the hard way.
That's all I got

I don't think those are what you want then. At least my hiking shoes (New Balance Trails) are the exact opposite of what I'd want for ITG/DDR
yours may be different though

The ones that have "Barefoot Run" in the name on that Merrell website look like they'd be suitable for DDR/ITG, since they have a similar sole to Nike Frees.
Everything else just looks far too clunky.

I mean, they're only suggestions and you don't have to switch them if you're comfy enough with your own but it really did help me improve when I switched so idk.
Is there an actual shoes thread somewhere here for this? I know AiJ and r21freak have their own (no one posts anymore in either one but still) but I don't remember seeing one here.

Am I like the only person who improved way better on Gatorade (probably followed by water) than just water...? Must just be a nostalgic thing... or that old-scale-10-footer hump around the time of switching to water that I'm still not over but moving on.
Always breathe. Aaaaaalways.
Mmmaybe abuse Nonstop mode? Make a list of just hard songs and see what happens. But a warm up before that is always good, else your body gives up too early, I think.

I just can play 12 Stages in DDR Supernova2.
And i'm already stamina, but i will rest for a while and drink 1 litre water.
