Finalists:
Moldova (ballad)
Lithuania (how?)
Ireland (not Jedward
)
Estonia (ballad)
Belarus (why?)
Denmark (obviously)
Russia (because if they didn't Putin would cut off the oil)
Belgium (...I can't. Where is Netherlands please?)
Ukraine (completing the former-USSR clean sweep. Almost surprised [not a fix honest])
The Netherlands (FUCKING AYE)
Montenegro didn't get in and the Dutch did. So basically as well as I expected.

Moldova - Somewhat expected, with the stage show.
Lithuania - Europe must've seen something I didn't see in this one...
Ireland - Expected
Estonia - Yes, this was my favourite!
Belarus - Ugh... though expected...
Denmark - Once again, ugh...
Russia - Expected.
Belgium - Nice, they needed that.
Ukraine - Expected.
Netherlands - The most welcoming advance, Netherlands definitely needed that!

Not surprising that all the USSR countries made it. VERY surprised that none of the former Yugoslavian countries did.
Lost my shit at the Serbian woman's shock-face. Also, "No Montenegro" tweeting in the UK.

There's one more Ex-Yugo country left in the 2nd semi final...but I don't think that's gonna make it. Then again...anything can happen
Here's who I hope qualifies Thursday
Bulgaria
San Marino
Norway
Greece
Israel
Finland
Iceland
Switzerland
And I dont care about the other 2

Sad to see Slovenia go, but I wasn't holding out a lot of hope. But Lithuania AND Belgium making it through? Belarus, too? Come onnnnnn

So instead of watching the semis in their entirety, I'm just going to watch and review the songs that got eliminated. So here we go:
Shine (Austria)
This is one of those "fringe" songs that may have been good enough to make it had the field been balanced differently. But thenagain, a bit of it reminded me a bit too much of that "Stompa" song.
Igranka (Montenegro)
That entire song was a mess in my opinion. Hip-Hop and dubstep may sound good on paper, but this didn't work AT ALL. Only the dubstep parts and 60% of the female vocals were remotely good.
Straight Into Love (Slovenia)
It's clear the trend we are seeing this year in the "pattern yourself off last year's winner to see if people would like it" department is an abundance of EDM. Again, this is another "fringe" song, but it would have helped if she were actually singing on-key.
An me thimasai (Cyprus)
Felt like another "safe" Eurovision ballad that got overshadowed by competition. When the backbeat came in, it seemed a bit more unique, but it was still rather unnoteworthy. If it made it to the Final, it probably would have been a low scorer.
Ljubav Je Svuda (Serbia)
Clearly, I did not understand what the plot of their choreography was supposed to be about, a thought probably shared by the viewers who did not understand because it was unfortunately, part of the lyrics, which we did not know, making it nonsense (what was up with the Sailor Moon outfits?). The song was good, but the performance could have made more sense if the song were re-written in English.
Of all the songs to be displaced in SF1, 3 of them were electronic. Do I sense a conspiracy.

I could say how much I'm happy/sad/surprised for "this" or "that" song qualifying or not, but a single moment on that semi-final made it all worth it...

Ready for Round 2!

Watch the national final of their song and it clears a bit more of it. Reading the English version of it, its about the blonde girl deciding to be with a man she's in love or not and each side (the devil & angel) tells her "go for it" & "hes a douche, dont" which the costumes do tell more of it.
Agreeing with Liro the costumes reminded me of a doll house...?...Alice in Wonderlandish? It was confusing for me

Starting in just a moment now. Leh go!
Lativa: Skip it. Also did they reference Star Wars at the end?
San Marino: OMG <3 It's hard to believe this is the same Valentina from last year. Such an improvement!

Everyone after the contest was all "Oh, Valentina is a proper good singer, Ralph Siegel gave her a shit song." I didn't believe them. Egg on face. Humble pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Also, if you live in Skopje I should imagine that your weekend is going to be free.

FYRoM: Guy's good, feels like the backup singers overpower the lady
Azerbaijan: Doesn't matter what I say, they'll make it through. He;; they can just shit in a bucket on stage for 3 minutes & make it top 5

Iceland: Woah I underestimated this song =o Juries are gonna eat this alive.
Greece: Greek ska? Love it f only alcohol was free
Israel: Probably my favorite ballad this year. Strong voice, emotional song, I can see this doing very well
Armenia: Still can't wrap my head around the fact the lead guitarist of Black Sabbath wrote this...

I was in a skype conversation with some affiliates during the show, then the Greek entry came, I muted the mic, raised the volume on the TV, and danced! I hope Greece will make it.
