Oh, so you're saying if someone is Japanese, his or her music automatically sucks?
Listen, DJ Sharpnel is in Rebirth, and I'm pretty sure they're Japanese. Your argument is invalid. Please try again.

I'd make a list of quality charts since supernova, but I imagine i'd somehow hit a text post limit in the thread and crash the site.

"do you even 18nps" |
Although I do enjoy playing bland 180 streams on ITG, I can enjoy most of DDR's boss charts.
From my experience, people who get mad at DDR charts and constantly saying that DDR sucks just can't play them.
Yes, DDR boss charts are hard, yes they can be stupid at times, but once you master them you can really have fun on them.
I did a SN2 boss run today, (NGO
, Hades
, Pluto Relinquish
, Trip Machine Phoenix
and stuff)
I wouldn't call them "good" charts. But I think they are fun. SN2 bosses are full of ridiculous crossovers and step-jump, that's really frustrating when you can't play them, but once you have the level to have fun on this, it's glorious.
Don't play Dead End Groove Radar though...
On the other hand, I consider DDR X to be a very bad mix full of very bad charts. Most of them are dumb and unplayable bad edits. (lol max300 x-special) Even the original bosses are meh. (except saber wing headshot mix maybe)
I love DDRX2 though, but I don't enjoy charts like 888
or VD
, it's like they don't assume their charting orientation and make stuff halfway between DDR and ITG. I like possession
and anti-matter
though lol
Same thing goes for most of DDRX3's non-boss 15+ charts.
tl;dr post-supernova stuff is as good as pre-extreme stuff

since probably he'll reply to everyone else
uff too bad most people think lowly of DDR X, it has good charts stuck to mediocre songs... also why is the focus on boss charts? the thread titles doesn't even mention it.

duhh i played this song called pierce the sky on itg and valkyrie dimension was awesome, skrew DDR
wait
you can't compare them because you can play whatever you want on ITG
My opinion is kinda lame anyway 'cause I can't do any boss songs. Boo. Well, now that they're in my head, I love most of the RDA charts below level 15... Pierce the Sky''s crossovers and walks are amazinggg but what is with that ending o_o; Played it several times and can't seem to make sense of it... crossover-y... gallop-y... something. Imo, X2 in general had some of the nicest charts in a while.
'Course, whenever something isn't on DDR II or DDR X2 PS2, I'm at the mercy of an ITG machine... ;>_>

" ♫~~ I'm wired to the world ~~♫" |
I'm not gonna lie. I'm not so much of a fan of ITG. And my favorite range for "enjoyableness" in stepcharts is probably 7-8 footers. I really like Time After Time by Novaspace in X2, particularly the gallop-step section near the end and the crossovers.
I enjoy it more when there are few double-steps (where you're forced to step twice with one foot and it's not the same arrow), but I do enjoy crossovers.

I just read the whole thread, so I guess I have to respond to each sub-topic in one big post:
You know what I don't like? The jumps in Maxx Unlimited that occur one 8th note after another arrow during the fast section. Just seems excessive to me. Aside from that nitpick, I think every pre-SuperNOVA 10-footer has had "reasonable" charts (though Paranoia Survivor Max loses points for just being a lightly modified Paranoia Survivor, and Bag had that timing issue).
I know Konami was expected to keep on increasing the difficulty, but starting with SuperNOVA a lot of the boss stepcharts started feeling forced to me... just tons and tons of arrows not really going with anything (or going with minute background noises that seem to exist only to have arrows matched to them) and jumps where single steps would have sufficed, taking the place of what could have been a really fun eight/nine/easier ten footer. Plus songs like Pluto where the need to insert unpredictable pauses has a negative effect on the music itself (in my opinion). However I can't speak for every single boss song because there are so many of them now that I can't keep up.
I don't have any problems with speed changes and stops, I like note-reading as part of the challenge. But there are also songs like Chaos where a good number of the changes don't seem to match the music. Listening to the song without looking at a chart, I feel like there are only half as many pauses in that song as Konami thinks there are. But yeah, in general I love pauses and speed changes that have merit. (So, songs that aren't Flow(true style).)
And since I guess this is a DDR vs ITG thread now as well, I'll admit that I've played very few In The Groove songs, but of the ones I have played, I feel that their commitment to being "technically sound" takes away some of their fun. They need more spins and general weirdness.

do you know how many NAOKI songs are about love.pretty much all of them.
all music is pretty much the same. the only difference is the language the lyrics are spoken in. maybe you should stop being a narrow minded asshole.

can you stop dodging silverhawke's question and answer it already, or did you already give up and realize that your argument is invalid?
