Hrm. My problem with this is that there are a lot of excellent files that don't have videos, and also that music videos, while they're nice to have, add a lot of bloat to a package.

I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong for including them or anything, just giving my two cents.

Why not just have good generic videos that can be used for songs that don't have unique videos?

There are already 138 Stepmania packages that do have music videos. You are certainly right about the size of this game being exponentially large though. That is why the entire game will never be distributed over the Internet.


Because it wouldn't be art. It's not challenging to just put generic music videos to existing Stepmania packages. A major point to following the ideal of the title of this game is build a better dance game. A dance game that is continuously updated and has fan made music videos. No commercial dance game has these features.

There's probably a very good reason that commercial dance games don't have meme-ridden background videos filled with Deviantart-quality still images, spannish text and Hitler. Did we mention Hitler?

Even Japan doesn't do that. You don't have Stepmania packs containing the very best Red Zone MAD videos from Nicovideo. (Although I suspect those are also on the planning list for The Greatest Of Stepmania).

Congratulations, now for some strange reason in my head is the Third Reich version of the Macho Gang video. The best name I can think of is Arbeit Macho Gang Frei.

137 songs with background videos is nowhere near the size of a IIDX game, though? Or even a complete set of IIDX simfiles?

I downloaded the entire foonmix series once upon a time, large download sizes do not frighten me. Sending a hard drive to someone I don't know, even a completely scrubbed and used drive,... I dunno.

What if you made a torrent for this, instead of the HDD shipping? I just find doing that shady for anything that isn't repairs.

I have to ask this, are you including files that can only be played on SM5 or just strictly 3.9?
