Granted, they probably ARE fake like 99% of Extreme machines, but it doesn't affect unlocks.

What in the hell are you talking about? I can tell you your statement is completely false. Sure a lot of them (probably 90%) use bootleg discs but it is the same as any other legit version of the game. In fact almost all DDR 573 games are just bootleg copies in America, but again, everything is exactly the same as the real version of the game, security checks are simply taken out or modified.

Yes.

There's a difference between bootleg disc, and bootleg game (Megamix/Extreme Plus)

I'm actually cool with Beware's Extreme. I once suggested it as replacement for an Extreme machine that hangs the BG videos on certain songs like Max 300 occasionally.

Just don't add more songs to it.

But scores are invalid on Beware's EXTREME cuz basically it's StepMania.

Even though the scores are technically invalid, I would wonder if Beware fixed the timing window for Extreme? I realize it doesn't count in framers, but it could, arguably, use the precise MS equivalent to frame timing.

My stance on it still stands though; StepMania is StepMania.

This This This. It is IMPOSSIBLE to ever mimic any game perfectly and that goes for DDR especially. Even if you got the timing down perfect on Beware you still have fixed steps on songs (Burning Heat!!!) and don't get any other issues emulated in return.

Whoever said they had a machine where the game would hang on backgrounds that is such a simple fix I don't know what the hell you are thinking. It literally would cost me a CD-R to fix that issue and if that didn't solve it $10 for a new drive will.

I remember once playing an Extreme, and on one song I triggered the danger screen - which never disappeared even after I got my life bar full.

Aren't they both, by definition, bootlegs, though...?

I mean yeah, there's a glaring difference between Megamix and Extreme with a bootleg disc, and we generally accept all Extreme machines as Extreme. But it doesn't seem like a DDR game can be considered legit when you know the disc is bootlegged... imo.

Whether or not a machine itself is bootlegged, I have... absolutely no idea. Upon finding out how many bootleg discs were out there, I didn't know what to think anymore as far as legitimacy went. D:

In my opinion it doesn't matter.
It's the same game with the same frame-based timing.

Fixed to focus on the most important point here.

And my curiosity regarding Beware's Extreme was mere curiosity. Of course it cannot replace the real machine.

The Chinese bootleggers only made it so you can install the game on any 573 with any cartridge. Most needed a modboard to run, but even now hackers have found ways to alter the code to ignore the security cartridge and run with any legit 700A01 chip. Again security is the only thing ever being modified for game legitimacy.

Of course others have tried to modify data on the discs (like inserting songs onto the EXTREME disc from other games, modifying the announcer and unlocking locked charts) where most have been unsuccessful.
