good to recap this info. given that hopefully an arcade will be getting an x2 in new zealand in the coming weeks/months the cabinet type could decide how successful it is.

You honestly want a fully updated Asian X2 in a classic cabinet. Anything else would be a mistake/cost prohibitive.

I think even having a Japanese X2 dedicated cabinet would be just as good. But the chances of that happening are slim if this machine is going to New Zealand. As AeronPeryton stated, hope for a Japanese or Asian X2 Upgrade on an older type cabinet.

Other minor differences:

DDR X2 EU/NA can never unlock deltaMAX CHALLENGE even with MAX unlock.
DDR X2 EU/NA has no character select.

DDR X2 JP also has no character select when disconnected from eAmuse.

The nova 2 japan i played in chemside, brisbane only had Nova2, nova, and extreme. while the X japan i played in bangkok had all before as well.

X2 contains a majority of the songs from EXTREME and SuperNOVA minus licenses and Dancemania tracks. Some were kept, but most were not.

It's like this.

DDR X2 EU/USA
You get all of the songs but it suffers from crosswiring and intense lag issues.

DDR X2 Asian/Japan
You get the authentic DDR experience but you'll be stuck on the default songlist of DDR X2.

Your choice.

Only one category of X2 or just a few recent categories?

As long as the songs i always play, which were those by Darwin DDT and a few others, [basically 170-175 bpm or other hardcore songs i can actually dance to] are still on there, otherwise i will be very sadface.

Unless you're buying a kit that already has all the eAmuse updates and unlocks loaded onto the hard drive, any Japanese or Asian upgrade kit will not have the unlocks on them. But you can buy any English machine and even if they are still locked, you can use the pad codes (hopefully) to unlock the machines save for one or two things exclusive to Japan.
