I just ask "who's next in the line"...people won't bite for asking, lol
Sadly, there are many people over here that doesn't do that... so that why one of the arcades here has a token line. There's other, however, that's nearly empty

now that sounds awesome. really makes the scene seem communal hahaI think it made us better players, because we could play one cata, and then have a 5-minute break before the next song. It let us play all day without getting burnt out, and helped people novice players practice new songs alongside experienced players, without fear of failing the song, and losing the rest of their credit.

I still use the coin line when I'm around people who understand it. Otherwise, I'd rather not risk having little kids and stupid immature skater kids/wiggers/guidos etc stealing my coins.

I use the token line when there's people ahead of me. However, I stay at the machine to make sure no one steals my token. The only time I don't do this is when the DDR machine takes dollar bills. I ask who's next instead.

"Not going through this again" |
Everytime I go to the arcades to play DDR or non-bemani related games like Time Crisis, Maximum Tune or Outrun. If I see a person currently playing the game I want to pick first, I would go to the other arcades I would like to play while waiting for the player to finish. This is so that I don't get tedious.
If there ever was a coin queue quite short but not too long, I would wait. Most commonly I have never seen any players who would cut in or being selfish and not let others take a turn. Occassionally I had seen some selfish retarded people and had to have a pop at them and I have a right to because I was expected to have my go next and these dickheads rushed through and took their turn instead of me first.
These people need to learn the true meaning of sharing and patience. I don't give a fuck if they give excuses for jumping the queue I would have smashed their heads in if they're treating me and others who waited patiently for their turn like shit (well specifically not the little kids I mean they're very young).

"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
Oh ho I'm sure you guys have heard the following:
"Hey can I go ahead and play, I'm about to leave."
and if there IS a line
person A and B have a token up. Person A plays by themselves, then person B invites person A to play with them. They could have just went together up front, hur.

That's pretty much the reason I saw two arcades turn off Joint Premium (Before there was a separate option for Doubles Premium). Someone without money would hang out near the machine, wait for someone to get on Single and jump onto the machine and press the second start button.

I think I've only ever been to 2 arcades who were smart enough to put a fucking whiteboard next to their machine.

"Charlie isn't real" |

Well, in Florida, I've only seen one machine so far that actually has a sticker that says "coin line starts here"...
Tampa Lanes has on one of their Extreme cabs a small "Token placement" thingie and even has the numbers in token order (ex. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.).Quote: Daiz
I've actually placed tokens on the machine at the arcades I regularly attend and people from out of town go "I'll knock that damn token right off this machine, I don't do token lines". Then I proceed to go "fuck off dick I do token lines so stfu".
One time this has actually happened to me, i was going to put a coin up then all of the sudden the person was like "NUH UH MAN, WE ARE GUIN TO PLAE FUR AENOTHUR ROUND MMUURRRRR", so i kept it real and just backed off......but i watched them. I watched. And you know what? It was funny to watch them fail such an easy song on Light (Matsuri Japan). Granted by the time they got mad and left, i also had a hard time playing on the mats of the cab because it is older than Abraham Lincoln and it's never been cleaned or anything. I still managed some good scores on Expert though. In a sense, Token Lines were a thing of the past if you think about it at this day and age, if you remembered the way it was back in those days, then more power to you guys, but we now live in an era where putting a token on a machine could mean "oh look, it's a free token for MEEEEEEEE" or "BACK UP BITCH, I'M PLAYIN' SOME MOE'!" or my favorite "Hey man, that's very disrespectful to us playing here".
*sigh* the golden days are forever gone

I've done that before.

But it was really before I had to go and I was already waiting in line for like 20 minutes since my last play and they were just having friends go in left and right.
It ended with me rushing off of my extra stage with a phone attached to my ear outside while everyone was standing there going what.

Aw, I was going to say something about Japan but:
It isn't such a strange thing, but then again it is the only system I know. You don't put things on the machine because it distracts the player, both by something being there and the fact you are walking in their line of sight to put something there. Even if it is between songs, it is considered rude to do something like that (like "Shadowing", something I never saw done in Japan on the stage; I first saw it in person on my trip to London)
It is the FIFO system (First in First Out) and Honor system rolled into one, basically. There is only confusion when there are 4 or 5 machines and some people are scattered in lines for all the machines.
In that case you slowly walk towards the machine and look around to see if someone says anything. If nobody does, it is your turn. This works here, but I'm not sure about overseas.

In Japan there are no visible lines. You come into a room with an occupied machine and a couple people watching and you're expected to keep track of who's in the room before you and wait until everyone else either goes or indicates they're just spectators. Then the person who was playing gestures that they are finished and you bow to them and play your game.
Yes I'm being serious.

I used to remember arcade games (though not bemani games) actually having slots to put tokens in to form a token line, but that was a LONG time ago, wonder why bemani games never adopted that.

"~Let's keep it real~" |
I haven't really been to any place that still adheres to the token/game card line other than Gameworks Seattle (with serious players around) and Gemini Arcade Palace in Vegas. I remember seeing that happen when I was really little in the arcades but now not as much. It's really because all the "die hard" players are gone now or something.
In fact, when I went to Vegas and Gameworks right before that I got to use my Gameworks card and Platinum Crew card as a line holder for the first time since I never had a need to before. I felt like a pro or something since no one ever really cares with the people that go to arcades to babysit kids and stuff.

I did this once. I said that I'm really tired but I want to spend my last credit instead of taking it home and returning next time. With some pleading they let me play, but I felt bad afterwards.

I do this most of the time, but in a different way. I ask if I can "chicken" in on a person's X2 game while I wait for my turn and the player usually allows me to play along, unless he want to AA or AAA songs. I think its rude to just activate the chicken mode without asking.

hehehe, chicken mode...
I don't see a problem with it when you ask the person who's actually playing, it's the moochers that clued the arcade owners to the fact that two people can play on one credit. And when they spent all day using other players' credits, they didn't like that.

They still do in Japan. And in my study:

(Yes, I've subsequently found out that the Taito ashtray must have been stolen from a Japanese arcade - I honestly didn't know this when I was given it a couple of years ago).

Every machine play on Joint Premium so anytime someone is playing they normally put it on 2 player anyway so anyone else can play causeing there to never be a real line up anyway. But when a few of us players get together the token line can appear, although I can only think of a few people who do it, most people just know when it's their turn.
