Another example is air on both singles and doubles. It's a rather small radar, but the charts are eight footers on Heavy.
Singles is a 7. A rather sleep-inducing one at that.Post #22 · Posted at 2010-03-11 10:54:19pm 15.3 years ago

I'll take this to PM since I don't think anyone wants to hear it anymore but I'm still interested in continuing.

To be honest, it's a seperate thread where it's the main talking point (we're not posting it in the main DDR release threads). You don't need to take it to PM.

Tell me someone who actually analyzes this groove radar you speak of if we exclude ourselves.
Inexperienced players, casual players, pros...no one looks at it.

I think almost all of the people who don't look at the groove radar either don't play seriously (at least on the pad), want to have a complete surprise when playing new charts, or are pros so good that what the groove radar says hardly makes a difference in the score they get.

I do use the radar, but mostly just for the air and freeze corners. Stream, voltage, and chaos all seem a bit arbitrary to me - yes I know they're algorithmically determined, etc., etc., but the results are not that meaningful, so I don't pay any attention to them. Foot rating, surprisingly enough, is the most help to me.
And then you have me, who gets unremarkable but consistent scores across the board no matter what song it is (provided I can pass it)

well the community is large, so excluding ourselves is excluding a large group of people.
it's not like it'd be much use to novice players anyway, since novice charts have tiny radars. you can really only see a difference with boss songs like FELM where you get crazy air on the lower difficulties. (and voltage i think on beginner is noticably larger)

A friend of mine who's learning doubles likes the radar so he can avoid too much chaos and jumping (his two weaknesses).

I don't think you'd 'learn' to play doubles with FELM.

+1
But Groove Radar is useless on doubles charts for the most part.

I still like reading from Groove Radar first.
It's useful for recognized jumps / freezes / Voltage peak / Chaos peak.
If the song completely new , we can figure it which the hardest part by looking from Groove Radar first.
Just think again, how do you feel when you pick up any on song
that was hig on Chaos before you recognized it ?
You'll surprised at first try.
But when you know if that song has high Chaos , you'll not so surprised as you never knew before.
So, useful or not but for me it still important aspect for DDR.
And it look quite sophiscated for DDR layout too.
