"Charlie isn't real" |
I have the strangest feeling that what pie said JUST MIGHT come true...
Let's say that "DDR X-2" comes out, what will the songlist be? Well, more than likely the remaining songs from DDR X will show up in this mix. IF DDR X-2 IS NOT the next AC installment, then this is where it gets interesting....
DDR X-2 will probably be THE OFFICIAL 10th anniversary game, why? Think about this, what if the next game includes ALL of the X-special songs? This means that the CS game will more than likely include certain songs from the 1st mix all the way up to DDR X (including songs from HP2 if possible AND songs never released before like PARANOiA Respect and other songs that were "supposed" to be released in a US CS game, but have never had their chance...also possible UMI/UN crossovers if they are that generous).
To be able to fit all of the songs into one simple disk, they would have to do either:
- Move the series to the PS3 which gives the game A LOT of space for this kind of game
OR
- Create a dual-layer PS2 disk like what IIDX EMPRESS is going to do.
If this game were to be released, more than likely it will be one of the best DDR CS games to come out since Extreme 2. Possible features (if for the PS3 or even PS2) include:
-online play
-online scoreboards (through the help of DDROC site)
-possible online tournaments
-edit mode to transfer songs from the CS to AC (only for the PS3's that have SD cards in them...hopefully, if they change SD to USB, then it can be available for ALL PS3's to use it.)
....keep in mind, this is my speculation as to what could possibly happen, but don't take my word for it (this is what my dream DDR game would be like)

Whatever they announce, I hope DDRX PS2 EU gets announced fairly sharpish. Seriously, it should be at the very least announced.

Moving to the PS3 won't mean more songs. They're note even utilizing the existing disc space (Extreme had over 100 songs). Watch, the next DDR will be the 2nd DDR game for the PC, hence how we get our step edits to an SD card ;)

..or PS3 because it ALSO has SD cards...but only on a few select models of the PS3 (it would suck for me because i have the 40GB model...NO SD CARDS >_<)Post #25 · Posted at 2009-05-07 01:14:14am 16.1 years ago

They've already stated that the edits will be done on PC software.

Well, I guess we'll need to wait until April to see if we can get something...
Hopefully, we can get the X Specials or some songs we haven't gotten yet...

I think even if the game shifts to PS3, it will barely use the disc-space, unless its filled with a bunch of KOs. This has to do a lot with licensing reasons for the licensed music. This is alway why the Singstar PS3 games only have 30 songs on them still, something to do with the licensing contracts.

They won't use the disc space for songs as they'll quickly run out of songs if they're not to include crossovers from other systems. They'll either ignore the space or use it for graphics and other features.
If they move it to the PS3, they have no reason to exclude Quad and Triple mode.

I can't wait to play the first poorly made Quad and Triple charts, and go "wtf?" when one part of the chart thinks the pads are in a line while another part of the chart thinks they're in a square.Post #31 · Posted at 2009-05-07 06:35:05am 16.1 years ago

Actually they do have reason, modern PS3 models only have 2 USB ports AFAIK.

Yeah, but it should be feasible to hook up a USB hub. Unless the PS3 really is crap. (in spite of the bullet deflecting ability)

Most of the PS2 DDR releases barely used half the disc (~1GB). In fact a number of PS2 games were pressed to CDs (Dark blue surface) because of how small they were. Just because the mountain top is higher on the PS3 doesn't mean Konami will climb all the way to the top to do what they want.
Does anybody know if it's possible to make a PS3 game on a DVD? Or will it only accept BluRay?
And with that, Konami will have an excuse to go HD, widescreen, high res dancers, etc. They may even increase the song cap to 100 or something. But the game itself will largely be what it is now, just more polished due to the console's processor. They certainly won't be looking for an excuse to fill the disc, they never have.
This is doubly true if they really do decide to make a cross-system game. As the Wii and the Xbox 360 are still using DVDs.

Metal Gear Solid 4, the only game to max out the dual layer disk. We need more of this Konami.

But think of it this way: MGS 4 needs that disk space. A Bemani game doesn't need even half that, really. And if there was an epic 200 song DDR for PS3, where would it go from there? They'd practically fill up every DDR song that could go on in 3 discs.

Why PS3? Why not PS2? They have Dual Layered games for PS2.

PS3 has been out for what, 3 years now? Sooner or latter, they will have to step up.

They haven't adopted the PS3 for DDR yet because for a nitch game they need to make every sale count to make it worth while. And since the PS2 is still the mainstay of the PlayStation series they're still releasing for it. As good a system as it is very few people are jumping to adopt the PS3, mostly due to the lack of good content... and developers are not making content due to the slow adaption rate.
What they should do is continue to make PS2 games that they make sure pass the PS3's emulation abilities so that owners of either system can play the game (Release an official PS2 pad to USB adapter and call it a day). Did any iteration of the PS3 not play PS2 games at all?

Unfortunately, they discontinued the PS3 model that is backwards compatible with PS1/2 games.

Maybe there will be the new DDR. But I dont think it will be called "DDR X-2" since X is a roman number which is 10... so DDR 10-2 ?? ... is like saying the 8th anniversary of Konami o.ô .. it should be a different name only if its created next year.
