This is why I thought that My Summer Love was a radio single when I first heard it when I started playing DDR many years ago.

That was the song VOL.4 was covering. A lot of songs in DDR are intentional covers like that with different names (END OF THE CENTURY, KAKUMEI, LET'S GET DOWN...)

KAKUMEI's a little different, as it's a classical cover. So you don't really need copyright approval to remix it.

So is END OF THE CENTURY (Beethoven), No.13 (Bach), JUPITER ~The Bringer of Jollity (Holst). IIRC, most classical pieces from the 1700's or the 1800's are in the public domain because the copyrights expired on them. It's all open season to remix them.

Which begs the question, which Bach composition (if any) was the basis for Ubertreffen?

I'm guessing NAOKI decided on expanding MAXX UNLIMITED's slow parts to create VANITY ANGEL, or parts of VANITY ANGEL were incorporated in MAXX UNLIMITED (I'm guessing the former). I'm not sure about this as EUROMIX2 and MAX2 were in development more or less at the same time.

That's an exception to the rule. Like Oni-91 said, it's based on Fur Elise, but unlike EOTC or No.13, its an original work using Fur Elise as a base.
