I think a lot of arcade owners are in it for the long haul though. The EuroMIX2 near me (last time I went that is) has been there for as long as I can remember, and that's a good few years. Arcade owners know that over time due to experienced players or simple curious play from random people they will make back their money. Dancing Stage has long been a good crowd drawer like other big machines such as House Of The Dead. I'd see it as a steady form of income over time, as such I'd imagine the machines still get played but probably not as much as when DDR was fresh and new. People are still interested but because people now know what Dancing Stage is it's lost it's initial boom. Guitar Hero is somewhat the same, it's pretty new so it's exciting and people want to play it.

"i'm back "
In my country, DDR isn't as popular as a few years in the past...
but still, in some places DDR is still popular and it's so crowded to play at weekend...

many gamecentres sold their old DDR machine and replace it with piu machine...
and the DDR populations there are dead, most of them (they have no choice, it's not their own will) converted to piu, and the rest migrated to other place that still provide good DDR or even they stop playing...

Me myself is very busy with my study, so I can only play once per week (IF there is no other business at the time)
But sure I will play everytime I get my free time... (I still loves DDR so much)

Most arcades between monday and thursday are often empty of customers...
So the DDR machines are all mine to play Happy

The DDR scene here in Albany is dead. There's never anyone at Crossgates when I go, though I've heard that some people go to Zero Gravity and play Extreme. I personally prefer Xgates' SuperNOVA dedicab. Green Grin
But yeah. When the Cyberstation closed everyone stopped playing. It sucks.

They were killed? Shocked

j/k

Generally, though, huge crowds only appear on days on which there are discounts to play. At an arcade I used to visit, one day is half-price, another is 10 dollars for unlimited play after 5 PM, and the rest are good if you like to play consecutive sets Laughing Hard.

Here, there may be a group of people who play together, but otherwise, I'm often the only one there.

DDR has peaked in popularity already, but it's still somewhat successful.

Nobody in my area plays DDR except me. Neutral

However if I go to my dad's 'area' some people play it along with GF&dm and IIDX. But I never go there :<

I think DDR arcades popularity would decrease in my country, since nobody wants to buy recent arcade versiones like SuperNOVA, SuperNOVA2 and DDRX. The most recent arcade version that you can find in Peru is DDR EXTREME. Anyway, I moderate a little forum from Peru (one about one about DDR) so I always try to make that my friends and DDR fans in Peru don't forget DDR (specially, each time when a CS or AC version is released).

Some other friends tell me, that they prefer to play with other dance game series like "Pump It Up" (PIU NX3 It's very popular in my country) or "In the Groove" (they think it's more challenging than DDR -in terms of stepchart difficulties-)

Yup, DDR is losing popularity in Peru and PIU is getting more, the arcades prefer buying the newest PIU cabinet instead of a DDR, uhhh, I remember when DDR was very popular, good times.

I'm also playing more Pump it Up than Dance Revolution, kill me. Oops

true many new PIU machines show up and people have two choices either convert to PIU or stop playing altogether.
that's what happens in the arcades, still people usually can't play PIU at hme unless they bought their own machine or build their own pads. with DDR it's different. seems like DDR CS products are now more "popular" than the AC scene.

the game loses it's social aspect *sniff*

Around here in SF not many people play DDR even though Rack N Cue is like the few places that has Supernova 2. But in my hometown Salinas, it's totally dead like literally for me since they took out the last decent arcade. I guess the only time we get to see a good DDR crowd or a DDR player gathering is pretty much anime cons.

The only DDR machine there is in my area is an extreme at the movies and trust me, it's a big deal. When someone good is playing, everyone watches. While there aren't any line ups, as soon as the machine is free, someone else is on it right away.

My area has stayed pretty consistent over the years and stuff. Although starting to decline quite a bit, having a hacked ITG machine helps with the community. The whole variety and contributing to the machine to help make it a community oriented machine... People seem to like that.

And considering that 8 on the Break is another arcade I go to, the music game scene is NEVER gonna die there. Especially considering we just got Technica.

I've heard that the music game scene is still HUGE in the suburbs of here. Alas, no one plays DDR in Chicago, mainly because there's no machine in Chicago (at least I haven't found one)

I have to go there sometime. If only train service over there didn't suck...

As for DDR's popularity here, I only set foot in two arcades here. The scene isn't exactly huge, considering they're the only arcades open year-round. The status of Coney Island doesn't help, as they had 3 or 4 EXTREME machines. The two arcades in question have, combined, 2 EXTREMEs, 1 SuperNOVA, 1 ITG r21, and 1 ITG r23, all usually occupied with the regulars, with the occasional newcomer on the SuperNOVA.

i think now piu is more popular in indonesia, but there's still many people who play ddr...

there are not too many good ddr pads here in jakarta, maybe that's why they chose piu.. (the arcade's still new..)

"~ The evolution has begun ! ~"
Confirmed.
piu is more popular here nowadays.
It's hard for me to find DDR.
Those stupid game center officers replaced DDR with piu machines.
They said "DDR is dead. The latest version is Supernova" lol.

One day I showed a video of DDR X new cab (the one with light sticks).
They said " wow! piu has new design?"
Those fools..
They have only have piu on their mind. Mad
