This is just Harmonix's way of saying that they can sue too. Imagine if you please:
Konami is a bully that likes to boss people around
Harmonix is that brat that stands up to the bully.
All that Harmonix is doing is showing that they're not afraid to sue with a big ol'
nyah nyah-nyah-nyah nyah.
Viacom most likely just gave the ok for Harmonix to sue.

In first place, Konami could avoid all this thing if they had released some music games on the rest of the world, they just stuck with DDR and a quite boring beatmania game, and when another company wanted to do a music game that Konami didn't wanted to do worldwide, they sue it. ¦/

Although Konami's still gonna win. These are one of these people that everybody, even the other brats bully, even the teachers, and the parents.

I doubt Konami will win either case. Viacom is a pretty big company to mess with. Konami's lawyers will have next to nothing on Viacom's lawyers. And they're also transferring the case to Massachusetts. Makes you think if Viacom is gonna play a little dirty.
The lawsuits will most likely be settled out of court.

If that was true, you're saying Viacom can steal anyone's ideas and succeed in it too.

If there was justice in the world, Harmonix would've lost in Konami's lawsuit suit.
For Harmonix to even attempt to sue Konami is just stupid.

Pretty much yeah

I'm not too happy about all of this as this might tarnish Harmonix's reputation. I really want that new Amplitude game that they're planning on.

From my understanding, if KONAMI filed a patent for their ideas first, then KONAMI should succeed in this lawsuit, no matter the consequences.
KONAMI made the guitar and drum controllers way before all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games even got invented. I can't see how they, Viacom, can bend that fact to suit themselves.

no, its more like this.
konami does their chore of raking the lawn, mommy gives them money.
harmonix comes in with a rake that does more and gets konami's mommy to give them the money instead of konami for the same work
konami says "well fuck your shit"
harmonix says "no u"
except the rake is a guitar controller and the mommy is all of us

i know, i'm an amazing individual some times :p
personally, i think konami was wrong for suing them in the first place based on the fact that they dont market their game in harmonix's territory. harmonix is clearly wrong because konami had the same idea they did, just 8 years before them. i personally think konami made BS decisions to sue every time because they only hurt the fans(trying to take away PIU, ITG, DJ max, and RB is a big blow to those that like the games), this crap needs to stop all around.
like i've said before, could you imagine if the odyssey people sued everyone that made a system that connects to a TV and displays images based on controller input for a game inserted into said system? this is basically what konami does. "we did it first" isnt good grounds IMO, especially when people do it differently than you(and in some cases, arguably, better).

Here's the actual patent that the Bloomberg article is referring to if anyone wants a good read
I'm pretty sure Konami already has those claims covered. This is pretty ridiculous.

Harmonix sues KONAMI?! Is it opposite day and no one told me?
Anyway I hope this settles. I'm really getting tired of these sue wars.

I'm backing Harmonix on this one. Maybe Konami will learn to play nice when they see what it's like.
This is really funny because Konami constantly picks that place in Texas because the judge there is FAMOUS for almost always letting the suing party win no matter what.

It's funny how many think that since Konami happens to do a lot of sueing, they're the bad guy. Harmonix isn't as much of "the poor little innocent guy who gets picked on by big bad Konami" as some seem to think.
When there are companies blatantly taking ideas from Konami, it's expected to happen. I say smash em Konami.

This officially made my night. Viacom is trying to throw some of it's weight around.
And really, it's people like this that piss me off. The whole, "WE CAME FIRST, NOW YOU'RE ALL UP IN OUR GRILL. POP OFF, SON", but when in reality, the person they are attacking WAS the one that came first, so they're just sounding worse than they already are.

i agree with this, its what i'm always saying. it sucks for us from the stand point of a gamer(less options) but companies are taking ideas konami owns patents on and using them illegally. everyone wonders why they dont go after GH, and why they partnered with them, its because activision isnt fucking stupid like other companies, and they pay royalties for konami's patent. konami actually helps them out quite a bit as a result, it makes me wonder what ITG might have become if RoXoR had played by the rules. could you imagine konami staying in their "territory"(japan) while RoXoR had theirs(america), but RoXoR had the backing of konami?
judging from the whole konami/activision partnership, konami isnt full of unreasonable people. it sucks that konami has been manipulative enough to copyright a genre, and has a strangle hold on rhythm gaming, but they're clearly quite reasonable as nevervisizzard can tell you. everyone wants konami to be taken down like they are some tyrannical dictator, but really konami just doesnt want people blatantly STEALING their ideas. now using their ideas with permission? they're obviously cool with that. if you were in their situation, wouldnt you feel the same way?
