well i played ITG at an arcade at a theater on a field trip and everyone thought I was awesome at DDR when i played Pandemonium on Medium and failed half way. i think i could have lasted longer if i was hydrated and wasn't wearing a winter coat while playing!
If people who don't play think you're awesome at DDR, it doesn't count. Pandy medium is a draining 9, you are not shamed.

I almost passed Pandemonium Expert yesterday. I got to the part where the song is starting to wind down before I just couldn't go any further. Though I also finally passed Tell, so the only 12 I have left is Bloodrush. Very difficult song.
Anywho, also on the DDR X scale, I'd say anyone who can pass a 10 or above can be considered good. 15 or above can be considered a pro.

What part of Pandy are you thinking of when you say, "starting to wind down"? It doesn't wind down, it just ends.Anywho, also on the DDR X scale, I'd say anyone who can pass a 10 or above can be considered good. 15 or above can be considered a pro.

Well song-wise, not stepchart-wise, about where the bass dissapears. I'd say somewhere in the third to last column is where I failed.

Someone who can pass flashing 10s+ otherwise you suck.
I suck.
The flashing of the rating was the equivalent of a car with go faster stripes painted on. It doesn't actually mean it's harder, it's just something they stuck on new 10s for a couple mixes.I suck.
Proof: PSH is flashing on EX2 CS, when it's barely harder than Max 300.
Unless n00b_saib0t comes along and presents better proof that I'm wrong, that's what I'm going to believe.
oh come on, you're just asking for it now :p
anyway, its not new 10s, really it seems arbitrary.
in extreme, max.(period), PSM, and LOM flashed. sakura, bag, PS, and the old 10s did not.
in party collection, paranoia ~respect~ flashed. no other 10s were present.
in extreme US, no 10s flashed on the song wheel. LOM flashed in courses(i THINK this is true, i havnt played it in ages. i know for a fact that nothing flashes on the "wheel", the course thing might be me misremembering).
in festival, sakura and outer limits flashed. mad blast did not.
in extreme 2, PS and PSM flashed. sakura did not. this is sakura's third appearance in a PS2 game, its only flashed in festival, and it wasnt new there.
in strike, G2 and max300 super-max-me mix flashed. neither song was technically new, they were the only 10s in the game, and this was the last game to feature flashing 10s.
edit- i forgot to answer the thread question :p anyway, it varies from person to person. i have a friend who doesnt PA very well, and doesnt score well on pretty much anything over an 8. pretty "shitty" player right? he can pass slow demon road on extreme, so take the "scores well on X foot rating" or "passes Y rated songs" theories and shove 'em, because 9/10 people on this board cant pass that course, or bag without mods with a normal life bar for that matter.
i have conversations with people about charts that i consider good players, just like everyone else here. the thing is, there are different kinds of good players. the guy that can pass slow demon road, the guy that can AA 10s, the guy that can pass anything on doubles, the guy that cant play well with his feet but because of stepmania he knows a good chart when he sees one, and so on. my brother isnt very good at DDR anymore, he quit playing a few years ago, every once in a while he'll jump on the machine and SDG a set like destiny/kind lady/my sweet darlin' but to watch him play 9s or 10s you wouldnt think he was good, he cant do them anymore because he's a WoW fag and has no leg strength(because he never uses them). is he a bad player because he cant pass 9s? even though he can SDG a SET(you know, less than 9 greats between 3 songs)?
there are too many definitions of good. my brother even says he sucks at DDR because he cant AA max300 or PS anymore. i say i suck because even though i can AA max300, i've never SDGed a set in the arcade, my PA is pretty bad.
tl;dr- i'll discuss charts with anyone who knows whats going on. there are different kinds of skill in DDR, you cant narrow it down.

I can confirm that Legend of MAX flashes in Extreme US:
It flashes in ExtremeUS when selecting the Tricky and Way of Legend course.

^so then i was right. it doesnt flash on the wheel, it flashes in courses. it wont flash on tricky though, LOM standard isnt a 10.

i just booted it up and confirmed it. LOM standard is not a flashing 9 :p the course is trick, BTW, not tricky. LOM heavy certainly does flash on the way of legend though.

I should have mentioned that I consider people who used to be good but have since let their skills decay are still considered good.
Thanks for the supporting info n00b_saib0t. I was pretty sure the flashing was arbitrary. I just didn't realize it wasn't always new 10s they put it on.

A good player should know the "beat"
without that, playing DDR feels like "empty"
And I think they must be able to control his/her balance when playing (bar or without bar),
be able to read fast arrows, and even slow arrows,
can do crossovers,
and have good stamina

I consider yourself a good player when someone else asks you to play with them so that they don't have to fear failing the songs they want to try.

n00b_saib0t gotta agree with you. ^_~. still usually I think that we feel that good is something quite defined for us a way. Usually it's the thing that we admire or we are good at and find it more common.
I don't consider myself good but I consider many players being even "worse" than me good. and many players consider me being a good player. but still probably only for one or other skill (like playing no bar or whatever...)
Really there's no standard for this. Even though at tournaments it's usually like nine expert clear being considered good enough to take a challenge with pros (which in that case would do something like 99 on it). and it was the same thing with DDR. clear all nines available and you are good. SDG those nines and you are pro and most likely to place well. but now the level has increased a lot. and 9s don't play such a role now, do they? people count perfects on supernova, excellents on ITG....but all this is score/percentage based.
but what I admire the most is technique and grace.
----------
for example I don't fit in the 3x0t1c m4n definition as I don't know the beat and can't read slow arrows. but I would fit in other.
