Oh and Street Fighter 1 [arcade or TurboGraphix CD] (Insanely hard to control Ryu / Ken, special moves do 10x damage but the game will never recognize button inputs, it all becomes a game of luck, and those punch buttons on the arcade machine just made it that much harder to do anything [punch easy medium or hard to make the character use a light medium heavy attack])

I have no idea how Street Fighter 2 was a sequel. That would be like going from coal to diamond, there's a good reason why nobody has ever heard of Street Fighter (the series began with 2).

Top 5? Eeeehhhh...

5) Super Ghouls and Ghosts - Good lord I had so much trouble with this game back in the day. Arthur is really not as spry as he should be in this game...not to mention that he has the ability to be turned into a maid...well wait, that might be a plus here...

4) R-Type (1 or 3) - Easily one of the toughest shooters I've sat down with...not as bad as my next one though...

3) Gradius III Arcade - Unfair to a fault. SNES version pales in difficulty comparison even in the 'Arcade' mode. The closest you'll get to the actual arcade console aside from itself is the PS2 re-release of it and Gradius IV.

2) Battletoads NES or Arcade - Arcade is far worse than this absolute pain in the caboose. If you've never indulged, I highly recommend trying one out. Don't throw keyboards or controllers when you get your face melted in when it comes time for Stage 3 (Turbo Tunnel).

1) Mushihime-sama Futari - I was lucky enough to play this a few times. No human can beat it without dying in gruesome purple-bullet-fueled fashions. 'Nuff said.

I have Gradius III & IV for the PS2, and I must say those (especially III) were one of the hardest shooters I've ever played. Gradius V is about just as hard. These games made me so frustrated I almost used the discs as coasters.

Yes, but definitely a necessity to have. V, especially, I mean that's a TREASURE game there...

TREASURE games don't suck.
