503 Errors

Awwwww My pc crashed, I was going to redownload it... I guess I have to use DDRUK website even though it takes forever to download bc of that warning I have.

I've just been browsing around getting some simfiles and I've noticed that they've been removed in the last few days. Individual downloads are great, but I understand that they won't be back due to the guest abuse (however you judge that, I don't know. What do you consider guest abuse anyway?)

Anywho, my suggestion would be torrents and bumper packs of course, just have the song lists for each bumper pack on the download page to make it informative for the people who want certain songs.

You could do it in RARs so that people couldn't sabotage the seeds by only downloading certain things or you could do it in separate folders if you want them to be able to download just certain songs. (Either way someone won't be happy but whichever you think is better, you know?)

I just think torrents and bumper packs are the way to go. If you can stifle one dl per IP too that would help, because all download accelerators do is make multiple connections per IP.

Mirrors and supplemental megaupload links would help on the forums too. Maybe an individual song request thread as well. What do you think? ;

If you want to download simfiles, you need to visit v5, where they've made some improvements to the system (e.g. uploading files separately, user packs).

For the moment, you need a rating of 25 or over to be able to access it. The area is still undergoing programming.

Well if you guys are against it, I really don't mind waiting. n_n

It's just important to find out what works best for everyone. I just generally don't post very much on these sort of communities because while there are a few nice people, most people tend to be extremely judgmental just because you're there; or they're begging for this and that.

Okay, I've reversed my rating, which was the one that put it back under the threshold. Just don't use a download accelerator.

Al, is there a way to make it detect people trying to use download accelerators and automatically cut them off with a message?

Oh, and I thought of something. Offer "ZIV Sims on DVD", and use the money to get better hosting. Probably take 2 DVDs for all the simfiles.

That actually sounds like a good idea, though I don't know what the legal rammifications of actually selling the simfiles like that would be though if they were all originals (ZIV files, like you said, took me a moment to realize it), then that might work beautifully.

And download accelerators are really very cheap, in my opinion, and honestly I haven't used one in years as when you really need them (when you're on dial up) they really don't help a damn thing (because you AREN'T going any faster than your modem speed, you just aren't). So if you could find a way to block them, I think that'd help a lot. I KNOW there are sites out there that disallow them much in the same way they disallow right clicking.

The downloads only for registered users and rating over 30. Maybe this could solve the 503 errors (and some download slowdown?)

I actually came over here to check status on simfiles and such, since I've fallen way behind over the last few months, only to find this. Oops.

Guess you have to do what you have to do, though. No arguments about that, al.

Don't expect much updates for the time being, I have some urgent personal stuff I need doing for people outside of here.
