Stupid people lulz.
Actually, 2012 seems to be a pretty popular year for strange theories. Something about the Mayan calender ending in that year or something, but many people believe the world will end in that year.

Didn't they also say that the world will end on 2004?

A little song that should be heard by people of this board that has some connection to 2012. Also note the artist name.

Just because the Mayan calender ended 2012 doesn't mean the end of the world. . . right?
I always thought that they just got lazy and didn't feel like doing it anymore and just. . . stopped.

The end of the world? No, it's a big conspiracy, like those people who think the large hadron collider (activating on August 8th) is going to create a black hole that destroys the earth.
I actually saw a documentary on the mayan empire, and a short blurb about the calendar mentioned that they section off groups of several hundred years. They stopped working on the calendar (for the time being) because it was impractical to look that far ahead. It's like the Year 10,000 problem regarding computers, that it could mess up software when a fifth digit is needed for date systems. But is it even worth worrying about, 8,000 years in advance? People probably won't be using Vista then.
The Mayan calendar simply repeats itself anyway, and if they had continued to work on their calendar ahead of time, they would have just started over from year 1 in their several-hundred-year cycle. No catastrophic events. Conspirasts believe the way they do because the Mayans were good with the stars, and these conspirasts think the Mayans stopped their calendar there because some star or satellite would hit earth; I think NASA would have known of such a possible phenomenon by now.

I believe Jehovahs Witnesses originally predicted that Armageddon would begin in 1914 and the world would be gone by the end of the 20th century.
Coincidence? Or...THE BEAST?!?!?!?!
