I really wish X2 PS2 was a better game. The Dice Master Mode was pretty bad to be honest
X2 was okay. Had potential. Glad to see some of those tracks finally making it to US shores, like MARS WAR 3 and the iconic remix of MY SUMMER LOVE. Plus DMM was an interesting concept. But overall X2 was just kinda mediocre. Also had many questionable omissions and I'll never wrap my head around a few of those revivals.

Nowhere as bad as people make it out to be but a very sad ending to the chain of great PS2 titles.
I mean I liked the game too, I really loved some songs (specially Freeze). Still, I think they should've put the original charts of the Groove Radar Specials and actually wait until the release of the AC version. I was kinda bummed roppongi D didn't make it (also I just recalled you can actually unlock everything through Endless mode so I guess it's not that bad after all)

But why go through Endless when you could just play through Game Mode normally and unlock everything? I think I have a document of how many songs it takes to unlock things, I'll edit this post once I find it.

Ok. Returning to the thread, i have a question. Who hell is Catherine in DDR 2010? Until now idk sigh* .-.

Catherine was a fictional character that was part of the promo materials of DDR 2010, primarily for the website for the game (her appearance was probably just that of a random model in casual clothes). At first, her dialogue was very garbled, nonsense translations from Japanese. They addressed this, but then it became more apparent how much they were trying and failing to write her like a clueless casual. Stuff along the lines of "I burnt 6 calories? Now I can eat all the pizza I want!" was present. Back in the day, there was a pretty well-known parody of her dialogue on ZIv from Tyma, it kinda makes fun of both iterations.

I pretty much got tired of Mario Party and started to grind Endless because I found out I could still unlock songs there anyway. If anything, I didn't know you could still unlock songs on Game Mode either

UNIVERSE2 is one of the greatest CS titles. Not many other games come close.
Never played Universe 2, but damn I'm high on nostalgia for Universe 1 and miss a lot of those songs. How do you think UM2 compares to that?

Ultramix 2 was my favourite mix but I think a lot of it has to do with nostalgia factor, especially with it being my very first DDR home console game I owned. My only gripe with the game was the lack of Oni/Challenge difficulty so some songs in the game were included without them (ie. V for Extreme)

I think of all the CS mission modes (or similar), DDR Extreme pissed me off the most, and X2 was a close second. The missions in extreme were ridiculous. And in X2 they ask you to MFC quite a few times LOL.

I think Extreme 2 and Str!ke had fun mission modes. It took me forever to beat the one mission where you have to get like 250 Marvellous in Maria (I believe), years actually. It was neat to finally beat it and reveal the hidden final mission of butterfly challenge. I think Max 300 SMMM was a better final mission in Str!ke though.

Question: does anybody wish they had more costumes for the characters in the AC versions? Like it would be cool if we could play as the original X costumes of everyone, or the DDR II costumes. They've had pretty much the same ones from X2 for so long...
DDR is awesome! (:

I wish they used characters more often in the games themselves, like having a traditional character selection screen (as well as not having characters that can only appear at random). And yeah giving them different skins would be pretty neat too

Bringing back the alternate skins from SN2 as well as the character cut ins would be nice.

"I'm a fucking idiot"
I remember playing Endless mode in X2 until the score maxed out and wouldn't let me play anymore and I still didn't have Reppongi EVOLVED unlocked after I did that. I finally unlocked it like two weeks ago, almost nine years after I bought the game.

Hey. How's everyone doing?

I haven't posted here in like 5 years, but this seems like a good thread to use to jump back into the community, especially since now I'm playing more DDR than I ever have.

I always played only the CS versions up until the release of Ace. Once I found out an Ace was coming to a location fairly close to me, I started playing and now have a hard time going back to the CS versions. It's just so good, I'm passing songs I never thought Id be able to when I was younger. Right now I'm being forced to take a break from it for a few months because I need surgery, but I can't wait to play all the new songs that have been coming out in the past couple of months.

While I probably have the biggest connection and anticipation for Ace, since it's the first AC game I've been able to sink my teeth into, I remember the crazy hype for X2 AC, and I think it's probably the best mix. It seems like all the artists and stepcharters were firing on all cylinders. It was especially hype coming off of the lackluster X2 CS, which had an awful mission mode and such a short song list. They really could've packed some more songs into the last PS2 game in the series.

I really did enjoy the mission modes for Extreme 2 and SuperNOVA 1 and 2, though. I spent a ton of time on SuperNOVA 1 especially. I thought it was neat that you could choose what goals to accomplish to move on to the next area.

I'm kinda dealing with the same issue. I've been playing Ace since launch, and now CS versions are pretty much unplayable to me. My biggest issue has been trying to fix the sync on my console. I have a PS2 hooked up to a CRT via AV cables and I'm STILL getting lag. This shit is super frustrating and I don't know how I played like this in the past.

Does anyone else suck at reading sparse notes at a fast BPM? Like, Basic charts or parts where it's supposed to be "easy" quarter notes are really hard for me at faster BPMs. My theory is because it's more like a reaction test than anything at that point. However, with denser charts, like Illegal Function Call Heavy, I can safely read at 2x and above. Then again, my natural reading speed is painfully low compared to most players, as I can read at max 300 bpm before it starts tripping me up.

Yeah, if I'm playing basic charts, it's usually on 1x because of that. In fact, up until Ace, I never used speed mods with rare exceptions like Chaos or Pluto on challenge. Now that I play high level charts frequently, I'm usually comfortable using up to 2.5x, depending on the song. So keep inching your way gradually into higher and higher speed mods to get comfortable reading them.

I find that I also have to play with a lower speed mod when the notes are more spread out. That way I can look ahead to see if a pattern is a crossover or a doublestep or whatever. With harder songs, I can read it at a faster speed mod since the notes are denser. I find that I do best when there are around 5 arrows on the screen during stream sections so that way I can nail any crossovers/footswitches/etc.

I've been wondering why they haven't added the Solo noteskins yet, they aren't very special compared to the Classic noteskin but I'd really love to see the Solo series get more recognition (though part of me thinks they haven't added them because their animation has more frames)

I doubt we'll ever get one, but I second the idea of one for the Switch.

there's never going to be another console title
and if somehow there is one, it's not going to sell well at all
let's not try to fool ourselves
there's a reason there hasn't been a CS title in any region for almost a decade (going off DDR II)

Yeah, as much as I would love to see a new CS title, there's no way it would sell. I wonder what kind of licenses they'd get for it?

"Not a real DJ. I make music tho."
I imagine it utilizing the motion controls if DDR Switch would be a thing, like strapping the joycons on your legs... That would most likely be a mess Big Grin
