But it surely that must mean it sold 700-odd copies, yes?

Not surprised, especially when you consider the multiplatform release of Just Dance 3 right about at the same time. Most people who want that kind of fix would've already gotten that game once DDRII got released, especially since it has way more licensed tracks and is actually representative of dancing.

We'll have to wait and see how well it does in the long run, especially when you consider who this game was primarily made for.

DDR is more like dancing than Just Dance. You can play Just Dance simply by moving ONE ARM.

I picked up both (by both I mean rented JD3 and bought DDRII), and I must say JD does have more appeal.

"But DDR has Justin Bieber!" Annoyed
And the problem with this is that the naysayers aren't buying this game, because it's not "too hardcore enough" Annoyed *sigh*

I'm also having a little less faith in higher sales numbers because of the revised Wii coming out this soon. No more compatibility with dance pads = no purchases from new Wii owners.
I just came to say hello.

I don't want to say to go learn how to dance or play a real guitar instead of guitar hero, but...

You can, just like you can play DDR on Beginner just moving one leg every now and then, but it won't give you high scores. I've found that Just Dance scores you the more you get into the song and actually reflect the full-body movements. One movement in Firework that I could previously never Perfect I could when I moved my hips as well like what the character does even though there isn't a sensor there.

Whichever way you spin it Just Dance is way more like real dancing. DDR is more about timing and rhythm.

Well even with the licences, it kinda is...

But that version isn't even out yet and you're not taking into account the millions of Wii owners who have the same version from the past five years.

DDR and Guitar Hero are surprisingly similar in that regard. Neither perfectly imitate the areas they simulate, but imitate the concepts behind them. That's part of what makes them so fun. I think that dancing is a little easier to pick up then playing an instrument though, hence why Just Dance does so good while many "real" instrument games suffer a bit.

Some people don't see it that way unfortunately. Technology has improved and people's expectations are higher. A lot of games are now judged on whether they man-up and embrace the new and innovative, even if at their core they remain the fun games they ought to be.

I have an iON Metal Pad with a universal control box that has cords for Gamecube, PS2, Original Xbox, and USB.

Would this work with the Wii? I don't know exactly how Wii pads work (do they use Gamecube ports or USB ports, or are they completely wireless)

I stole DDR X2 CS from the internet; it's my fault the music game genre is dying.

It will work but the corner buttons (if there are any) will register as arrows and there is no option to turn them off. I know I have covered this at least 3 times in this thread.

Any time. Smile
So, how are the sales of this game in comparison to last years titles overall? Shouldnt all the systems numbers be totaled up as well, or would that skew the outcome to much?

764 ... in a country where the population is over 300 million? ... I somehow doubt that's accounting for all sales.

Sadly though, it makes sense when you try to break it down. If you think that around 200 people (at most) purchased the game from this site or another BEMANI site (which, let's face it, there's not many of left), there's not much of an anticipating audience outside of that.

Most GameStops carried around 2 copies of the bundles and game-only versions from what I've heard, and their online system even marked my order as "backordered" until the night before launch, despite evidence of very few people pre-ordering it from them online.

While I don't think that that's the final number of sales in that period (surely some distributors haven't coughed up their sales figures yet), you can't really say you would have expected much of a different outcome. DDR just isn't what it used to be, especially now that people are reluctant to buy Gamecube-interface hardware which will be officially obsolete in a matter of months.

I still think DDR games would be suited better as download titles for XBLA/PSN or whatever. I think third party titles in general on the Wii have been on a huge decline in the last year.

That was how I felt about the IIDX titles after they stopped producing them for PS2. Have a generic framework, and downloadable themes/song packs based on the AC releases.

Example would be "beatmaniaIIDX: Resort Anthem Theme Pack", which would cost like $30 or so. I'd be EXTREMELY willing to buy those if they took that route.
