DDR due for a March 2013 release.

1. New cabinet

• White cabinet
• Monitor size will increase from 37 inches to 42 inches
• Increased space for players to put personal items
• Dance stage will be the same as DDR X

2. Exciting music line up any time

• 60 songs or more will be added within the year
• On release the game will have over 40 songs, thereafter every other month will add 10 more songs to the game boosting user motivation
• Licenses will consist of J-POP, ANIME, GAME and INTERNET MUSIC. The e-AMUSE Participation system will be used.

3. Increased participation

• Will link to other BEMANI titles more strongly.
• By including songs from other BEMANI titles to DDR, more BEMANI players will play DDR.

4. Beginner friendly

• Simple game flow.
• Song selection has been simplified and natural for players playing the game for the first time.
• Easy sorting categories including "Artist" or "Planned Events".
• "TAG PLAY" - advanced players can support friends that are only starting with the game. Easier to introduce friends to DDR.
• Small increase sense of accomplishment - GOOD judgments will increase the combo and play motivation by making FULL COMBO easier.

There will be events targeted to get more beginners to play the game.

I like the sound of this. It's like they're trying to incorporate elements of Sound Voltex into DDR.

Not something I wouldn't expect, but I am looking forward to this. Hopefully this means there'll be a nice set of IIDX crossovers like X2.

But no mention anything about dancers, Is it possible that it will be new characters or new clothes?

what they meant is the stage you step on.

Now what i'd like to know is what kind of music when they say INTERNET MUSIC. That leaves such a wide window of opportunity it's crazy.

The DDR X2 promo poster showed a legacy cabinet for some reason. It probably just means that upgrade kits will support the older models... though I wonder aloud each and every time which ones.

I know that. But I saw DDR cabinets in Tokyo that predated the MagicGate memory card slots running X2. How much longer will those venerable 2ndMIX cabinets with their 15-year-old CRT displays get the latest and greatest mix? They're still making kits that work for those machines even though fewer and fewer locations even have them.

Unless they want to have five machine lined up in a row without spending a ton of money (lookin' at you, Tokyo Leisureland), Japanese arcades prefer to have the newer cabinets. In the four short months I was there I watched a number of locations replace pre-X machines with the huge new ones (or at least acquire more of the god cabs). And it was well after the launch of X2 so it wasn't a boon caused by the release itself. I think Aaron said that the SuperNOVA 2 at Ikebukuro Sports was taken away after I left.
