I mean I can see what you mean, like how both songs slow down between the middle and end of the song, and then they suddenly speed up for the finale, but other than that......

Not really. They don't sound that alike at all imo, but I can hear the resemblance. it's just a coincidence anyways.

They're nothing alike, though...

Okay, so I can tell that there's some similarities between FMAXX and EGOISM- Both were pretty much the fastest songs at their release, and one of their main gimmicks is how they have a ton of random, sudden stops both in the middle of the song and right at the end. I'd say the resemblance is more thematic than anything, though. When I consider the theory on RemyWiki that the title for EGOISM might be based off of PARANOiA, it almost seems to be a homage to pretty much all of NAOKI's boss series in the past.

Saying that they sound exactly the same, however, is stretching things, even for me...

"five minute white boy challenge"
Fascination MAXX came out after Max.(period) and Egoism came out after the 480BPM speed-up of Valkyrie, so neither were the fastest songs at their release. And Fascination MAXX only has two stops, both of which are in the middle and both of which aren't like the ones in Egoism. It's nothing beyond "Konami throws bullshit in boss charts".

I've never heard of this. How true is this though? I can see Yuichi making songs that reference Naoki in subtle ways (I still believe the title of Nostalgia is Lost is related to Maeda).

He was definitely nostalgic about the 2ndMIX days, having done a new chart for PARANOiA KCET alongside the release of Nostalgia is Lost.

Egoism is a philosophical theory that one's self is the motivation and goal for all of one's actions.
EGOISM 440's title might be a homage to PARANOiA by 180, due to referencing the main BPM of the song, and that egoism and paranoia are both thought processes that have a overly high level of self-importance.

What the hell does U1 smoke to come up with EGOISM 440?

And Fascination MAXX only has two stops, both of which are in the middle and both of which aren't like the ones in Egoism. It's nothing beyond "Konami throws bullshit in boss charts".

First, I'm aware of the two discrepancies above, but I'd like to point out that Max.(period)'s speedup simply doubles the speed to 600 BPM, only using 4th notes, essentially still acting like 300 BPM 8th notes, or 150 BPM. The only effect accomplished is that the arrows move twice as fast, but you don't need to move your feet any faster. Meanwhile, FMAXX uses 8th notes at 400 BPM, which requires you to move your feet faster than 4th notes at 600 BPM as explained above.

Meanwhile, on the topic of EGOISM's speed, it can be argued that multiple songs do hit faster speeds- Valkyrie Dimension Challenge's 8ths at 480 BPM is likely one of the fastest foot speeds, but even that is exceeded by the 360 BPM 16ths of PARANOiA Revolution Challenge, and that one 1020 BPM section of Tohoku EVOLVED. However, there is one major difference between these songs and Egoism: While Valkyrie, PARANOiA Rev and Tohoku overtake EGOISM in terms for speed at a certain point, they don't require maintaining that speed for the entire length of the song. I do concede that EGOISM isn't the fastest song stats wise, but in terms of raw power, it overpowers all of the songs released to this day- Basically, it's the first ITG-style boss song, but Konami plays it similar to FMAXX. (Also, according to RemyWiki, EGOISM actually hits 880 BPM at some point, but not only is it unmarked and easy to miss, I'll cite my Max.(period) observation above)

As for FMAXX's lack of stops, I'll accept that as a mostly legitimate argument. Most of its stops are actually just really, really sudden slowdowns, but they achieve the same effect of a stop. I do think there is more than two real stops, though- I'll check later and make a count.

As a matter of fact, according to RemyWiki, Nostalgia is Lost's Light and Standard charts contains parts of KCET's Light and Heavy charts, respectively.
