We confirmed at my arcade too that it is only from 8:00~9:00. I played at 7:50 and it wasn't there. Then again at 8:01 and it was. Again at 9:05 it was gone again. Lots of people also checked at 18:00 (6:00) but it wasn't there. So you get 2 hours at it a day except, at least in Japan, there are very few arcades open at 8am.

What makes you think those charts aren't dumb? The current boss songs we have now COULD be stepped to their full potential using some faint background noise and obscure metronome that some of the ITG charts follow. Take Fascination MAXX for example. The beginning piano opening and the 100 BPM slowdown could be filled to the brim with those 32nds you love so much. Instead of random 8th's, they could have filled it in with "proper" quarter note jumps to simulate the beats. Instead of bad gallops, they could have used a full stream of 8th notes. Thank goodness they didn't though.

It's also a matter of opinion. To me, Chromatic Blitz and Summer Speedy Mix look like someone vomited sixteenths all over the edit data with no variance whatsoever. You think it looks good.

ITG is like instant gratification. You can play anything you want as long as long as the machine is willing to load it up and you can make anything you want. With DDR, the boss song difficulties aren't easily measured. Yes, I know there's a number next to the chart but look at it in the context of the game.

Can you beat Valkyrie Dimension? Can you beat Valkyrie Dimension with a no-life-gain bar? Can you beat Valkyrie Dimension without missing more than 4 steps? Can you full-combo it? Not only that, but can you AA three songs before this and the Extra Stage SIX TIMES? Valkyrie Dimension is an 18. EES Valkyrie Dimension is a 97. With the ES and EES, there's not only the challenge of beating the song, there's the challenge of getting to the song.

And hell yeah, it's all artificial difficulty and I'm all for it if it keeps DDR away from 1000 steps per sq. chart/2min.

Konami: "You think the ending is terrible? I don't know about that... did you play it yet? ROFLMAO."

The funny thing is, even if you WANTED to play it, you couldn't. You, me, and everyone else has to wait until someone does FC it and makes a simfile for the scrubs to play. We don't even know what exactly happens after the second freeze speed-up.

Konami doesn't care if you think Valkyrie Dimension has a garbage ending. They gave you 300+ other songs and you want to play THAT one? No, that song is for people who want to put in work. People will spend massive amounts of coin to beat all 6 ES just to have a chance at that song and do it all over again (mainly because they failed). It's not like they made the song available in the beginning.

I think VD is the best EES to date. The entire chart is focused in making you choke. The speed up into a split-second stop where you see a ton of sixteenths? The slow-downs? The freeze-stop-spin section? That random stop in the middle of supposed 16th run? The 370-bpm section? This is the kind of stuff that makes people rage-quit and makes the feeling of finally beating this song so much more great. Will this be the first EES to go unbeaten before it gets demoted to general songs? Probably not, but it's holding up very well because of its 6 ES song bodyguards.

Also: the ending is probably there because Konami wanted to make sure no one could use CUT2 shenanigans to get the full song. Makes their OST sell better I suppose.

TL;DR: It's all about the bragging rights. Oh yeah. Some haet for ITG-style charts as well and the belief that 19/20's will be garbage without song lengthening.

And I <3 Valkyrie Dimension.


Why does that chart and song look/sound so much better on the machine than it does on the 360? :O

888 is freaking intense good lord

definitely the hardest stamina-song in DDR, but if you are great at stamina and awful at crossovers Pluto Relinquish is still probably harder.

If DDR were to unveil a 19/20 that has a stepchart that looks similar to Summer Speedy Mix, it doesn't have to suffer from the same problem where it follows an obscure background ticking. Because they could easily just, you know, make the song sound like it should have steps like that. They wouldn't need to create a song that sounds like Summer.

Honestly I believe that people only think that 19s are not possible without lengthing songs because of a simple lack of imagination.

Btw, how come people don't whine that 888 has the same speed up types as Valkyrie? 888 is held as one of the best 18s ever (if not the best) and yet it has the same style of speed up at the end. Come on now.

Thought they would use actual clips from the anime for Only My Railgun.

I'd argue that Paranoia Hades Challenge is a better 18. I think that 888 S-Oni is definitely a 19. But I'm not so much a stamina guy, and there's nowhere in that song that you can bs through, while with Pluto Relinquish I fill my life bar up before the ending streams so I have elbow room.
