Okay, now for the rest of my reviews.
---
Help Me Dr. Dick! - Oh, gotta love E-Rotic. Fun rhythms and repeated elements that just make sense, and the doublesteps and such aren't awkward at all at such a slow tempo. ONLY thing that disappointed me was the cut. But I'm not gonna let that take away from my grade. A+.
Holy Humiliation - So Jakazid did his own version of Xepher eh? Started off with some promise, but unfortunately got a bit monotonous toward the end. B+.
I Can't Let You Go - Well done file! Totally felt like something out of Max 2 CS USA. A little repetitive in the beginning and awkward in the middle, but redeemed itself. I'm impressed you managed to use the ubiquitous o--o--o-o--o--o-o--o--o-o--o--o- rhythm in such a way it didn't get repetitive. A.
Icicles - Had to play this one twice to get a good feel for it, but it made me WANT to play it twice. Repeated elements made it easy to get the song stuck in your head, with smatterings of difficult rhythms that beg to be mastered. I'd make a FEW tweaks with a few of the weird purple notes, like the first one. Video was a nice touch for presentation! A+.
Iko Iko - You sure this wasn't a hidden song on 3rd Mix? Felt inspired by Jam Jam Reggae AMD Mix, and had just as much charm... just enough of a mix between doing its own thing and following the memorable rhythms in the song. However ... those 4 jumps at the end? That's the only reason I'm not giving you an A+... I didn't enjoy Slam CZ on Pump It Up either. Sorry. A.
Jewelry Angel - Fun J-Pop style stepfile! The middle caught me as a little weird ... I really don't understand the point of that big L+R freeze arrow at the beginning of the chorus. Sort of killed the climax for me. Other than that though, flow's good, rhythm's good, and again the video is a nice touch. A-.
Jumper - Good step writing, but I sorta feel like you didn't really take advantage of the song. There's a lot of 8th notes in the song, and it feels like you could have used many more of them, albeit not like a constant stream or anything. I would have expected this song to be an 8, not a 7. Even so ... good job. B+.
L'erisia (Primary Logic) - You get major props for managing to take a part that's basically a bunch of 8th notes and instead give it good variety. The Heavy didn't feel half-assed compared to the Challenge - I even liked Heavy a little better! Well made. A.
neoMAX - . . .
. . . okay, am I even allowed to grade this, considering I not only made steps for it before, but made the song itself?
And considering I hate said song? (And you used the reeeeally MIDI version of it...) Anyway, I'll at least try.
neoMAX - Well, it's a 10 ... but it didn't really grip me. The rhythms felt kind of forced, and didn't really have any sort of cohesion. When you've got a constant onslaught of steps with very little repetition, you end up not having a very memorable file. Also, in the second half of the slowdown, you don't quite follow the piano melody (it's o---O-o-o--o--o-o--o--o------- instead of o--O--o-o--o--o-o--o--o-------... should have been a blue note instead of an orange one. Trust me, I know the rhythm *really* well.
) Anyway ... it's not horrible, but it's not something I'd want to play, especially on a pad... C-.
No More - Not a fan of the progression of this song ... starts off slow, okay that's cool ... but then stays slow. I found myself disappointed, and wanting the beat to hit. And when it did, the rhythm didn't have the energy that such a drop would warrant. Also, you got some of the rhythm wrong... You have it like o---o--o-O----o-, when it should be o---o--o--O---o-, using a blue note instead of a second yellow note. It felt like the fun part of the song was way too short, and faded out as I was beginning to get into it. C.
Phantom - I was excited for this song, since I'm a sucker for 12-beat. Unfortunately, the file didn't do the song justice. The rhythms didn't really seem to make sense, especially anywhere you used the front part of the triplet instead of the back part. Also, the gimmicks seemed kind of thrown in there randomly, and while they go with the song well enough, they seemed unnecessary. C.
Pulse Attack - Now THAT'S how you do a Darwin song! Loved just about every moment of it. A few weird moments with positional placement, but genuinely fun - kept me pumped up. Unfortunately, wasn't as big a fan of the Challenge ... you used complicated rhythms, but I think it would have been better to have them go with the main synth. Still, solid. A-.
Ring - Channeling Dragon Blade a bit I see . . . makes sense given it's Kozo Nakamura. Well, it seems to fit pretty well - it's what I think I'd expect out of SuperNOVA - the good steps. It maybe could have used a little variety in a couple of small parts, but just as I was thinking it was getting a little old, the end came up, and it rocked. A.
Rush - Oooh, mine letters! Okay now with those out of the way ... Looks like this file came out of Extreme CS USA, and I mean that as a good thing. Steps are great and make sense. But, really? The mines at the beginning are unnecessary, and kind of add a "hi, this is fanmade" reminder. A-
S&M - This stepfile excites me. (Okay that was creepy.) Anyway, this is what licenses in DDR should be like. Good song choice, good feel for the rhythm, and it's got some legitimate difficulty that ramps up gradually, unlike a number of songs that are just too easy the whole way. Great job. A+.
Show Me Love - I'm really disappointed. This file really had me going, thinking "man, this fills the hard-slow-rock-song niche." Then ... the end happened. That Utopia section alone would make me never want to play the song. D.
So Fabulous - AWESOME. Glad it didn't perfectly follow the rhythm the entire time. Genuinely fun. One interesting thing by the way... anyone else have their eyes playing tricks on them cuz of the BG? Anyway. A.
Starry Sky - Beautiful. Fun rhythms and variation throughout. No complaints in the least. A+.
Sweet Rain - Well, managed to get the BPM right ... but whoever submitted this one has a long way to go in terms of writing steps. The step patterns aren't bad, but they're repetitive, and don't go with the music. D. (But, you may have some potential... keep practicing!)
Take On Me - Solid, well-written stepchart in the vein of typical DDR covers of songs like Don't Want To Miss A Thing. Only thing that disappointed me was that it was ... I didn't hear any Captain Jack. Anyway. A.
Target Planet Has Been Destroyed - We need songs like this in DDR. Solid chart with great step flow. Kept me pumped. A.
Tant Pis Pour Toi - I couldn't really make much sense of this file. First off, it has Blue Arrow Syndrome. Second off, the steps in many places didn't make sense. Finally, the gimmicks further detracted from the file. Tant pis pour cette chanson. D.
What You Waiting For? - No wonder this is ahead of me in the competition. The entire thing is perfectly done. Pretty much flawless steps, and the video makes it feel like this was taken right out of DDR. A+.
夢と現実 - Very nicely done crossover! Follows the rhythms very well ... just what I like to see in a crossover song. I have absolutely no complaints here. A+.
AI (DJ Yoshinori Vocal Mix) - Okay ... I know you, Tomo. You can do way better than this. Next time you make a stepfile, if you record it in the auto-record feature on Stepmania, please take the time to tweak it. Purple arrows and yellow arrows everywhere. I think I see what you may have been going for ... but you need more work before you can pull it off. D.
---
Okay, that being said, my votes go as follows:
+5: What Are You Waiting For?
+4: Drive Away
+3: Help me Dr. Dick!
+2: 夢の現実
+1: Icicles
Great job, everyone who entered. Please take any criticism I gave your stepfile constructively - it's how we all get better! Looking forward to seeing your entries next week!

lol wow DMAshura, I thought I was doing well to just include one positive and one negative point, you went and graded them all. Excellent and accurate reviews, I like it.
Edit: As we're voting here, this just goes to show how much we think we know when we release simfiles. When I did Drive Away it was for the previous tournament and I tossed it thinking "man people will hate this". Guess I was wrong lol.

Umm.... Flower Of Bravery should have 5 points, not 1. Eataninja and Azn_punk voted for it.
Anyways, thanks to all who've played/voted for my simfiles, and I will post my votes later this week.

I thought it was weird too. But seriously, there's a lot of very solid, high quality files in here ... then again, maybe I'm biased because I was in Tournamix 4 back in the day, and ... trust me ... a *LOT* of the files were *WAY* worse than these ones.
I'd even give my own winning file only a B. My steps sucked back then.
(By the way, something keep in mind - I'm also a math teacher. Would you rather I give harsher grades just beacuse everybody's doing so well? Imagine 80% of my class is making an A because they're doing great work ... should I change the requirements so you have to have a 95 to keep an A? I'm pretty sure my students would kill me.

I know I know mine was terrible and I humbly accept the criticism on it. Ashura Ive known you for what...3 years now? I remember sitting down with you and playing those amazing step charts you did and showing me somethings. Its been a long time though since ive played around with stepmania and that was truthfully my first stepchart I did but alas I should have known better.
Auto-record on stepmania was nice because it always allowed me to have a base down so I can go back and tweak everything. AI is a beautiful song but I had the hardest time with it. I kinda raged at myself and was like "Okay yeah done *post* which in turn I shouldn't have. We can talk more on Gtalk bout it
Im going to try harder though this week and if I need help ill ask for it this time. Sorry you all had to play the most worst file ever XDDDD....hope you liked the song at least x3!

There's an old meme that revolves around that part of the music video.
The freeeze is there so that you, too, DMAshura, can have a respite from all of the streaming, and take time to quickly recreate everyone's favorite 80s J-pop dance!

I am sad that nobody takes the time to grab their crotch and wave back and forth.

Actual-dancing gimmicks like that can be awesome, I agree! However, I couldn't see that until the second half of that freeze, and honestly, I'd rather keep something like that in standard instead of Heavy. But now I know! Thank you! And ... yeah that's pretty funny. XD

I figured if I were to play this on a DDR machine, and it had Heavy steps that didn't allow you to do the "grab crotch, wave back and forth madly" dance at that part of the video, then I'd feel cheated!

I do want to note that Target Planet Has Been Destroyed and neoMAX seem under-rated on their difficulties that are 10's, as I had quite a bit of trouble clearing them (though I was indexing on the numpad with judge 7 for judging these charts, as opposed to playing one-handed on the arrow keys).

I'd call Target Planet's 10 a hard 11 or easy 12.
I'd call NeoMAX's first 10 a hard 10, and the oni 10 a 12.

To clarify the rating of Target Planet's Oni chart, it's definitely not a 10, but since I stick to classic DDR rating systems, 10 is the highest I could go. If I were to rate it truthfully, it would be a hard 11 like TaroNuke stated. It's like 888 Oni being rated a 10 when it clearly is harder than a 10 on DDR Universe 3.

Exactly why I like the X scale better. It's also more accurate for the lower difficulties.Edit: We might have a few duplicate songs this week.

Just a small reminder to everyone: when submitting your votes, please include the updated vote totals in your posts as well.
I'll be going through the votes roughly every night and adding them to the spreadsheet I made, so this isn't suuuuuper important. (We've had counting issues in the past, and the participation this week is easily double its highest level in SC10, possibly triple in terms of voters)
