I disagree completely. EXJP is one of my favorite games BECAUSE of the 100+ songlist. And after beating the game, the selection doesn't seem overwhelming at all. I wouldn't have even called it overwhelming when I first started playing it, since you don't start out with 100+ songs, so... the huge songlist for me just prolonged my giddy 'ooh shiny new DDR toy!' feeling, which was wonderful. ![]() So yeah, I would love another 100+ songlist game, as long as the songs were as good as the ones on Extreme JP. |
its partly because what made extreme AC so amazing was the repeated old licenses, so extreme JP pretty much sucks unless you really want to play PSMO on the extreme AC interface instead of extreme 2 or um3. also, on that note, party collection > extreme JP. party collection has 50 songs BTW. 50 bad ass hot songs. 6th mix CS also only had around 50 songs, and is better than extreme jp.
large song list means nothing when the majority of it is awful.

Wow, you successfully stated your opinions as facts! Congratulations.

I agree with the 'quality over quantity', though. I would hate for the game to come out and the majority of it be utter crap, even if we got a huge songlist. I like the songs in Extreme JP, though, so what the hell do I know?

Nice, now we have a banner to use for the category, months before the game comes out.

I think you're right. We may also see a new 10, although that's never happened on a US PS2 game. There's also Ultramix/Universe crossovers, but it's just been UM1 songs over and over.

Because if it wasn't for the 20sec 340 BPM section that contrasts with the rest of the chart, it would have been a 9 (or even a high 8).

That song would've been an 8 were it not for that ending... heck, if Konami can call Arrabbiata
a 9, then that's probably a 7

Trim is a 10 for it's WTF factor at the end.
Everything else can be shrugged off. I call it a 9 without the 340 section, simply because there are too many 8's in SN2.

I just looked up Trim on Youtube just to see what people meant. Jesus Christ that song is insane! The energy draining jumps I can understand, but the sudden jump in speed is just a stupid attempt to make the song much harder.
I guess the community should expect this though what with most crying out for harder, faster charts. I'd rather stick with charts which follow the music and are fun to play myself.

Has anyone actually played EXTREME JP? 111 songs sounds nice in theory, but it it seriously verging on too many songs. The selection is overwhelming, especially when playing with others. The ~80 song range is good. Yes, KONAMI is well aware of how much data DVD's can hold. It is not a good business model to fill the entire DVD with music. Hell, where will they get the songs? There's only so many times you can play AM-3P before you get sick of it. It's hard enough to come up with ~60 new songs for a mix. ~80 is a perfect range, allowing for all new content and some choice revivals, like beatmaniaIIDX, which I find has a great balance. |
put more old songs and a few more new songs

Not really. You could make that part 170 bpm and the streams and jumps would still be killer. In fact, it would be even harder due to the arrows being closer together.
It's not a BS chart, that much can be said for it but the 340 section is the only thing keeping me (and many others) from passing this song.

What songs do you think will be revived from past US mixes? If any at all? I hope Drop The Bomb (System SF mix) and Luv To Me come back

The only reason for the speedup is because Konami is afraid to use 16th streams. Just look at Max 300 and Paranoia Survivor vs. G2 and Xepher.
