I take it we can now write this off as being any sort of revolutionary re-invention of the series, and chalk it down as "Another american CS game with terrible song choices and some Eyetoy shit tacked on"?

There doesn't appear to be any sign of edit mode, oni charts, or doubles play...just like the Wii games. I sure hope the 360 version ends up being a real DDR game.

Yup.
It's Dance Hero. They're trying to appeal in the same way Guitar Hero and Rock Band appeal; the interfaces hit all the same tones and it just strikes me as a similar presentation. If this is what it takes to make DDR a smash hit in North America, fine (though it won't). But, as a DDR fan and player, it's a far cry from what I'm looking for. Weird "star power" arrows, ugly arrow skin, overly busy backgrounds, excessively flashy effects, and a strange lack of what's important: judgements and combo counter.
And I can't fathom why we're still stuck on the 10 point difficulty scale. We've shown that it's absolutely inadequate and suggests we either won't see anything more difficult than a 15, or the rating 10 will once again correspond to a ridiculously wide range of difficulties. Not to mention, the HP3 ratings were really, really, really wrong on a fair number of songs.

Difficulty select after song select.
Hello 4thMIX, long time no see.
every DDR with the options screen let you select difficulty after you select your song. it only went away for 5th mix as far as arcade games go, when 6th brought it back you had more options with it.

Actually, EuroMIX1 (3rdMIX engine) does it too.

Mandatory difficulty-only select != the options screen.
I'm also aware that almost all European mixes do this too. I am not European, the first time I saw this effect was on a 4thMIX machine. Made no sense to me then, still doesn't.

I still think a difficulty select after your song select is the way to go for new players. Unfortunately most people don't read the screen on how to change the difficulty.

If someone is so new they don't know how difficulty select works they ought not to venture away from Beginner in the first place.

This kind of theme is not difficult to do in stepmania. In other hand, We have to recognize that it is the first version in PS3 so in the future DDR will improve.

Oh wow you're right
I am actually not liking this interface much. Red is a nice colour, but each screen looks very empty.
The loading time looks a bit long too

I'm not liking where this is going. I pray the Xbox version will be something worth awaiting

To put it frankly, the theme and gameplay sucks...
...yet, the songs are somewhat in par to actually be buyable enough for any DDR player...
I wouldn't be surprised now if the Xbox 360 version came out to be the X2 AC port, actually, it would fit well since we have seen some Xbox/X360 licenses in X2 AC.

I actually like a lot of the license list. In particular, Animal, Bad Romance, Love Shack, and My Life Would Suck Without You and the KOs seem pretty good too. But the theme (except for the background visuals, which I think look great) and the lack of many must-have DDR features really turns me off...

Exactly, the songlist is average (for me), but its the whole presentation of the game I don't like. What I hate more is how Konami tries to take the motion control/camera accessory of almost every console it finds its way to and abuse it. Seriously, the eye-toy was a failure, the balance board/wii-mote play is just gimmicky, but probably the best out of all of them, Kinect and Dance Masters really didn't seem to recognize me that well and I never really felt "in" the game, and the PS3 motion controls are an abomination. It may move accurately, but it's just confusing with the busy backgrounds and it's even more annoying to move your controller all the way across the screen every time a different positioned arrow comes by.

Yeah, it just seems like needless accessories are being shoe-horned into DDR. This wasn't a problem in the past as long as the core DDR game was always there, but so far, we're left wondering where Double, Edit, Challenge, etc. are; and it's looking less and less like DDR.
I guess the Wii games have always been the patron deities of DDR add-ons with the gutting of these components, but there was always an alternative to those of us that found these to be gamebreaker features.

I'm not a fan of the red theme. And not a fan of some other things (lack of characters for one). However this is the first PS3 DDR, it might get better before release date! At least this is what I am hoping for.
I don't feel as if the 360 version will be a AC port, because we're so use to see it on the Playstation. Why would they change now? Mmm... Well that's just what I think though.

I will get this game...
...once someone puts up the full song list of the game, whatever "unlocks" this game MAY have, the full DLC list, the PRICE for each DLC pack, and MAYBE and PRAYING THIS WILL HAPPEN a DLC theme for the game.
Because the song list is not what's turning me off about this game, it's the whole theme and gameplay of it. It looks like what Dance Hero may turn out to be, it just doesn't give off that "DDR" essence like what the PS2 games have done...hell even X2 US CS and EVEN DDR EXTREME US CS was presentable enough even if the songlist wasn't all that "great" to some...
This literally looks like something the stepmania/anyone would do to make a theme, i just hope you can change your themes still...OR LET ME GUESS, that was taken out for the "newer" PS3 version? So now we may be stuck with this theme?
